Heckington Windmill
It was built in 1830 to plans by millwright Edward Ingledew , Heckington Windmill is the only eight-sailed tower windmill still standing in the United Kingdom with its sails intact. Heckington is located between Sleaford and Boston in Lincolnshire, England. The mill stands very close to Heckington railway station, hence its name of the Station Mill in the 19th century. Windmills of Lincolnshire: Heckington Windmill
This video documents the windmill at Heckington in Lincolnshire as it looks today. Me and my sister have had a lifelong interest in tall and interesting buildings such as windmills, and aim to continue to go round many of the windmills in the region and other counties in England.
Heckington Mill was built in 1830 and is the ONLY remaining 8-sailed windmill in the UK. It ceased working for 40 years in 1946 but in 1986 was restored to full working order and reopened. Now the distinctive eight-sailed windmill is run by the Heckington Mill Trust and in 2004 the mill underwent a larger restoration. In 2014 all 8 sails were replaced.

If you take the train from Sleaford to Heckington in the heart of Lincolnshire, you cannot fail to notice Heckington's windmill.
The nineteeth century landmark, which has stood overlooking the village since 1830 can be seen for miles around.
What you may not have noticed is that Heckington's windmill carries eight sails not the typical four. The sight of such a windmill is the last to be seen in Northern Europe making the image both unique and a symbol of British heritage.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has pledged nearly a million pounds toward the preservation of the windmill and the redevelopment of the surrounding grounds.
The project includes a bakery which will use the flour milled on site, making the produce available to the public.
Heckington Windmill is owned by Lincolnshire County Council who are in support of the project and have funded the replacement of the unique sails.
Jim Bailey the Mill Manager said; 'The windmill is very important to the community and they understand it's unique.'

Sleaford is a market town and civil parish in Lincolnshire, England. Sleaford is on the edge of the fertile Fenlands, about 11 miles north-east of Grantham, 16 miles west of Boston, and 17 miles south of Lincoln. Sleaford is the largest settlement in the North Kesteven district. Bypassed by the A17 and the A15, it is connected to Lincoln, Newark, Peterborough and King's Lynn. Sleaford railway station is on the Nottingham to Skegness (via Grantham) and Peterborough to Lincoln Lines.
n the medieval period, records differentiate between Old and New Sleaford, the latter emerging in the areas around the present day market place and St Denys' Church. Sleaford Castle was constructed in the 12th century for the Bishops of Lincoln, who owned the manor. Granted the right to hold a market in the mid-12th century, New Sleaford developed into a market town and became locally important in the wool trade, while Old Sleaford declined.
The Sleaford Navigation brought economic growth until it was superseded by the railways in the mid-1850s. In the 20th century, the sale of farmland around Sleaford by Bristol Estates led to the development of large housing estates. The subsequent availability of affordable housing combined with the town's educational facilities and low crime rates made it an attractive destination for home-buyers. As a result, the town's population underwent the fastest growth of any town in the county in the 1990s.
Sleaford was primarily an agricultural town until the 20th century, supporting a cattle market, with seed companies, such as Hubbard and Phillips, and Sharpes International Seeds, being established in the late 19th century. The arrival of the railway made the town favourable for malting. Industry has declined, and in 2011 the most common occupations are in wholesale and retail trade, health and social care, public administration and defence and manufacturing. Regeneration of the town centre has led to the redevelopment of the old industrial areas, including the construction of the National Centre for Craft & Design on an old wharf.
Sleaford is the principal market town in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire. The civil parish includes the hamlet of Holdingham to the north east and the village of Quarrington to the south east, both of which merge with the town. The A17 road from Newark-on-Trent to King's Lynn bypasses Sleaford from Holdingham Roundabout to Kirkby la Thorpe.
The railways arrived in the 19th century. Early proposals to bring a line to Sleaford failed. Sleaford is a stop on the Peterborough to Lincoln Line and the Poacher Line, from Grantham to Skegness. A small number of medieval buildings remain standing in the town. St Denys' Church and St Botolph's in Quarrington date to the 12th and 13th centuries respectively.

Abandoned Ferdowse Clinic / Heckington Manor - Urban Exploring

This wonderful looking property was built in the 1800’s as a manor house and eventually became the only residential clinic for alcoholics within the Lincolnshire area.
Dr Mostafa Morsy, a specialist of addiction treatment, spent around £300,000 bringing the former Heckington Manor up to scratch and opening a successful private practice for the treatment of alcoholism in the late 1980s. In 2003, the government had drastically cut funding for this sort of treatment and Dr Morsy had no other option other than to close the doors of his pride and joy.
Since being disused, the property has been vandalised heavily and now sits waiting for a new owner.
Exploring Ferdowse Clinic was quite peaceful and simple, despite it being pitch black inside! It was a shame to see the building in such a state especially given that it’s not exactly on public view but there is still hope for this once grand manor house if work begins soon. This is very doubtful though because the building is still on the market for around £900,000!!

Wrinkly Rockers with Alfie at the Heckington Show
Alfie is the son of Dave, one of the lead vocalists with the Wrinkly Rockers. He's also the bands mascot. The Wrinkly Rockers are a Lincolnshire based band and they specialise on music from the 50's & 60's.
