Every Rock a Universe: The Yellow Mountains and Chinese Travel Writing
The Yellow Mountains (Huangshan) of China's Anhui Province have been famous for centuries as a place of scenic beauty and inspiration, and remain a hugely popular tourist destination today. A golden age of Yellow Mountains travel came in the seventeenth century, when they became a refuge for loyalists protesting the new Qing Dynasty, among them poet and artist Wang Hongdu (1646--1721/1722), who dedicated himself to traveling to each and every peak and site and recording his impressions. Unfortunately, his resulting masterpiece of Chinese travel writing was not printed until 1775 and has since remained obscure and available only in Chinese.
Here Jonathan Chaves presents the first complete translation of Wang's work in a Western language. Wang's newly rediscovered verse is also translated, showing him to be one of the most accomplished poets of his day. Introductory essays explore the history of scholarly and religious pilgrimage to the area, and the role of the Yellow Mountains in the great Neo-Confucian, Buddhist, and Daoist revivals of the early Qing period, that is, as the center of a yearned-for spiritual and cultural renaissance.

East Lake Bike Ride at Dusk, Wuhan China
I've recently started regular bike rides around Wuhan, this is one of my favorites. Weather wasn't great, and you can see the smog over the city. Hopefully in the future I can re-film the same route at sunrise.
Wuhan has created a 'Green Way' Walk/Bike Road around East Lake which includes:
Liyuan Park - a large urban park on the west side of the lake, with a popular free swimming area
Hubei Provincial Museum
Hubei Art Museum; the two museums are across the street from each other, just a block from the main entrance to Liyuan Park
Wuhan Donghu Ocean Aquarium, proud of its flock of penguins
Wuhan Railway Station - a few km northeast of the lake
Moshan (磨山, Millstone Mountain) Scenic Area, including East Lake Cherry Blossom Park
The Chu Castle (楚城)[6]
Wuhan Botanical Garden
East Lake Cherry Blossom Park
China University of Geosciences, Wuhan Campus
Ba Yi (First of August) open-air swimming pool
Houshan (Monkey Mountain) but no monkeys. One must travel to nearby Forest Park to see live monkeys, some un-caged.
Wuhan University main campus
Happy Valley Amusement Park
East Lake wikipedia description:
East Lake (simplified Chinese: 东湖; traditional Chinese: 東湖; pinyin: Dōng Hú) is a large freshwater lake within the city limits of Wuhan, China, the largest urban lake in China. Wuhan's East Lake covers an area of 88 square kilometers (33 square kilometers of water area). It is one of the 5A tourist zones of China, and admits over a million people yearly. It is one of the largest sites in Huazhong District. It is also the largest City Lake in China. East Lake is made of four areas, Ting Tao, Moshan, Luo Yan Island and Museum of Hubei Province.
One end of Moshan features a Daoist temple built over the putative site of where one of the characters in Romance of the Three Kingdoms performed special Qi Men Dun Jia rites before the famous battle of Red Cliffs. No one knows precisely the actual location, but the Moshan site was an archeological dig in the early part of the twentieth century.
