We visit the root or vegetable cellar, jail cells and a tunnel at Rutland Prison Camp in Massachusetts
In 1903 the General Court established an industrial camp for prisoners to reclaim and improve wasted lands. The Commonwealth purchased 914 acres in Rutland. A dormitory and other buildings were built and upon completion prisoners moved in. The prisoners were serving sentences for drunkenness and other minor offenses. The prisoners created a working farm of 150 acres. The farm produced potatoes that were shipped to the state prison.
In 1907 a 30 bed hospital has been built for the prisoners who were afflicted with tuberculosis. Due to the fact that the property was on the drainage area of water supply, the Prison Camp and Hospital was abandoned on November 30, 1934. The land and buildings were sold to the Metropolitan District Water Supply Commission.

The Historic Grist Mill in Rutland Massachusetts
The Grist Mill was built in 1719 to grind corn and grain into flour. In 1724 it was attacked by the indigenous people and burned down. I'm not sure but it might have been King Phillip's tribe.
Later it was used to make axe and hammer handles.
This is the oldest explore so for, also it is the most decayed. Was hoping for a little more to see, but I enjoyed the hike (50 yards lol) and the scenery. Hope you enjoy.
Alta Vista Bison Farm (Worcester Love 003) HD
Worcester Love debuts the County Edition! Andrea & Kaz visit the really cool buffalo farm in Rutland, MA in their first County Edition episode.
Alta Vista was carved out of the New England forest on a hill in the town of Rutland in 1724. For the next 225 years, the farm was primarily a livestock and dairy farm. It was bought by the Mann Family in 1951 and named Alta Vista, meaning high view. The farm was operated as a dairy farm until 1965. The bison arrived in the Fall of 1968 with the purchase of two heifer calves from South Dakota.
Alta Vista Bison Farm is a place of beauty that the Mann family shares with many people. The magnificent bison have brought many people together to learn and to teach.
