Heimaklettur Hike, Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland | Best Day Hike on the Westman Islands
The Heimaklettur Hike (Home Rock) is the best day hike in the Westman Islands of Iceland. This beautiful hike takes you up to the top of Heimaklettur for an amazing view over the island of Heimaey. If you only have one day in the Westman Islands, this is one of the best things to do.
You get a 360 view of the island. On a sunny day you can see all the way to the mainland. The Heimaklettur Hike takes about 2 hours to complete and is relatively easy aside from the chain holds, ropes and ladders. Don’t try this hike if you are afraid of heights or aren’t confident scrambling. Take 1L of water and a picnic to enjoy the views at the top.
Heimaey Island, Iceland
A beautiful flight around the Heimaey Island off the coast of Iceland. Heimaey, literally Home Island, is an Icelandic island. At 13.4 square kilometres, it is the largest island in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago, and the largest and most populated island off the Icelandic coast

Vestmannaeyjar (Westman Islands) Heimaey
One Day tour to Heimaey (Home Island) in Westman Islands in Iceland. Mainly Eldfell new mountain (of fire) erupted in 1973.
I took the morning 10AM Ferry and Back at 16:00 without the car. So on Islan I am only by Foot.
I mainly toured Eldfell, the new mountain that almost covered the hoses in 1973 eruption (some remote houses it did cover).
At the end of the video there is a nice view of the beach near the golf field, I saw few Puffins.

VLOG11:Visit Westman Islands | Best kept secret in Iceland
The Westman Islands, or Vestmannaeyjar, are an archipelago of 15 islands and 30 rock stacks off the South Coast of Iceland. Aside from their incredible natural beauty, the islands have the world’s largest population of nesting puffins in summer, and a fascinating history.

Ferry to Vestmannaeyjar - Views of Heimaey
Vestmannaeyjar Islands: Exploring Heimaey
Our first full day off the Laugavegur trail in Iceland we took a ferry out to Heimaey Island, part of the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago. This was the best Friday the 13th I've ever had. It started out getting to see Elephant rock, climbing Eldfell (the volcano that caused a full evacuation of the island in '73), and checking out the Beluga whale sanctuary. Then out of nowhere I got the chance of a lifetime to release a puffling back into the wild!!!
NOTE: First attempt at narrating, so feedback is welcome. I do know the audio is muddled since I had to cut out my houses furnace and background noise.

Eldheimar - Copy.m4v
BONUS: The Making of Eldheimar's Audio Guide
Bonus! I go behind-the-scenes with Locatify's Steinunn Anna Gunnlaugsdóttir to talk about the making of Eldheimar's location-aware audio guide app (E19: Memorial to an Eruption). We chat about how Locatify joined the Eldheimar project, the beacon technology used in Eldheimar, and their new hyper-precise ultra-wideband system for museum apps.

Midnight Sun in Iceland
This is what the midnight sun in Iceland looks like... Luminous clouds & pink skies throughout the night - during the 3 hours that the sun is below the horizon. It's like fiery red & orange northern lights! Solstice night (20-21 June 2018) at around 01.30 hrs on the top of Heimaklettur, with an amazing view to Eyjafjallajökull across on the other side.

Iceland Geology #5 - 20 Years After The Mega Disaster in Vestmannaeyjar
Click on CC for subtitles in English but this is a part of documentary that was made 20 years after the Vestmannaeyjar eruption in 1973 and describes how the inhabitants worked their way from the shock and rebuilt the island. There is lots of footage on Youtube that covers this issue but only partially available in English so I'm hoping that this will provide some puzzles into the whole picture for those who share my interest in mega disasters.
The population in Vestmannaeyjar is however still less than before the eruption or around 4500 but over 5000 people lived there in 1973. The tourist business is blooming but they excavated some houses from the lava and show now how cruelly nature treated the homes of so many islanders.
I hope you enjoy this short lesson in the history of Iceland and urge you to subscribe since it's my plan to keep on translating remarkable local footage that has never been available before. I'm also using my channel go over geological unrest as it happens, and unique footage as things happen at any given time.
