Düsseldorf. Der Düsseldorfer Literaturwissenschaftler ist den Spuren Heinrich Heines durch Paris gefolgt - und lädt mit seinem neuen Buch jetzt die Leser zu 14 spannenden Heine-Spaziergängen durch die französische Metropole ein. Von Lothar Schröder
Rund 800.000 Einwohner zählte Paris, als Heinrich Heine im Mai 1831 in die Hauptstadt Frankreichs reiste. Für den Düsseldorfer Dichter wurde die Stadt das Foyer des europäischen Geistes, wie er schrieb, die Spitze der Welt. Als der Dichter am 17. Februar 1856 in seiner Wohnung an der Avenue Matignon starb, hatte er fast ein Vierteljahrhundert in Paris verbracht. In 14 Touren ist der Heine-Forscher Bernd Kortländer, der bis 2012 stellvertretender Leiter im Düsseldorfer Heine-Institut war, dem Dichter in Paris gefolgt. Die Leser seines neuen Buches lädt er dazu ein, mit diesen Fährten Heine auf ungewöhnliche Weise zu erkunden. Eine Blütenlese von Heine-Texten über Paris und die Pariser Gesellschaft nennt Bernd Kortländer (68) seine neue Anthologie.
Wie oft sind Sie für die Recherchen zu Ihrem Buch nach Paris gereist?
Kortländer Eigentlich mache ich schon seit vielen Jahren mit Freunden Touren durch Paris, bei denen ich dann auch Texte von Heinrich Heine an den passenden Orten vorlese. Dann kam mir der Gedanke, dass man dies auch mal ordnen und aufschreiben könnte. Mit dem Buch der literarischen Spaziergänge kann man jetzt beides: sich mit den Texten von Heine durch Paris führen lassen oder mit dem Buch in der Hand einfach durch die Straßen der Stadt gehen.
Was hat Paris Heinrich Heine bedeutet? Es war doch weit mehr als ein Exil?
Kortländer Das auf jeden Fall: Heine war ein Paris-Verehrer. Und die Luft von Paris war für ihn ein Lebenselixier. In Paris sah er einen Ort der Intellektuellen, der Freiheit, der Revolution und der Liebe. In erster Linie aber war Paris für ihn eine Hauptstadt der Moderne. Und die beginnt 1793 auf dem Place de la Concorde mit der Hinrichtung von Ludwig XVI. - damit fängt die neue Zeit an, und darum beginnt auch mein Buch mit einem Heine-Text über diesen Platz. Der erste Spaziergang soll also durch die Hauptstadt der Revolution führen.
Wäre das Werk Heines ohne Paris ein anderes geworden?
Kortländer Diese Frage kann man bedenkenlos mit Ja beantworten. Er ist ja oft kritisiert worden, dass seine Liebesgedichte zu freizügig seien, zu unmoralisch und fürs deutsche Publikum im Grunde nicht akzeptabel; darauf hat er dann stets geantwortet: Das könne niemand verstehen, der nicht längere Zeit in dem Riesentollhaus Paris gelebt hat. Die Atmosphäre dieser großen Stadt, in der sich damals alles versammelt hat, was in der Kultur Rang und Namen hatte, prägte seine Sprache und seinen Stil immens. All das Kontrastreiche und Zugespitzte in seinem Werk dürfte kaum möglich geworden sein, wäre er in dem von ihm so rückständig empfundenen, schweren und bleiernen Deutschland geblieben.
Kortländer Das ist das Erstaunliche: Paris gehört neben Düsseldorf zu den Orten, die er nicht aus dieser ironischen Distanzhaltung beschrieben hat - im Gegensatz etwa zu Berlin, München oder London. Was natürlich richtig ist: Heine verklärt Paris nicht. Die Stadt ist für ihn als Ort der Moderne immer auch voller Schmutz und Lärm. Es ist ein Ort des Lebens, zu dem nicht nur schöne Seiten gehören.
Welchen Nutzen kann ein Heine-Leser haben, wenn ihm Paris als ein auratischer Ort des Dichters präsentiert wird?
Kortländer Ich glaube, dass man tatsächlich noch etwas von der Atmosphäre der Stadt zu Lebzeiten Heines spüren kann. Wenn man durchs neunte Arrondissement von Paris streift, in dem Heine hauptsächlich gelebt hat, kann man - trotz der gewaltigen Veränderungen in den vergangenen 200 Jahren - ein städtisches Leben erfahren, das Heine ungeheuer inspiriert hat. Dieses Leben ist immer noch da. Von dort aus ist auch nicht allzu weit entfernt vom Friedhof ...
... dem Friedhof von Montmartre, auf dem Heinrich Heine beerdigt wurde.
Kortländer Und damit muss mein Buch natürlich auch enden. Den Friedhof hat er sich als letzten Ort selbst ausgesucht und hat über ihn auch wunderschöne Texte geschrieben. Es lohnt sich immer, Heine in Paris auch dort zu besuchen.

The Hofgarten is the green lung of Düsseldorf. It stretches from the Jacobistraße with Schloss Jägerhof and the bordering Malkasten park to the Heinrich-Heine-Allee by the Altstadt (Old Town) and from the Königsallee to the Rheinterrasse (Rhine Terrace) on the banks of the Rhine. Because of its diversity and the pleasing contrast between nature and formal design, it is a popular destination for relaxing walks.
The Reitallee with its four rows of trees adheres to this formal design, as does the perfectly straight stretch of the Düssel and the flower garden with carefully delineated flower-beds. These stark forms create an attractive contrast with the remainder of the Hofgarten, which in the spirit of the English landscape style, is designed with attractive, “natural” features. On the 27.73-hectare grounds there are extensive meadows as well as impressive big single trees, which reflect the Hofgarten creator Maximilian Weyhe’s vision of a natural landscape. North of the Maximilian-Weyhe-Allee are most of the Hofgarten’s 2000, up to 200-year-old trees, which are reminiscent of a little wood. The gently babbling Düssel, the little lake with the “Jröner Jong”, and the quiet pond on the Landskrone add an invigorating element to the Hofgarten. The Hofgärtnerhaus (Court Gardener House) was once the abode of the renowned garden architect Maximilian Weyhe.
Strange as it sounds, the peaceful Hofgarten owes its creation to military events. The conflicts in the Seven Years War had dragged the grounds of Pempelfort – which then lay outside of the fortifications – into the midst of the troubles. Following the devastation, Imperial Count Franz Ludwig Anton von Goltstein, the Elector’s governor, wanted to restore order and harmony. So in 1769 the oldest part of the Hofgarten between Schloss Jägerhof and the lake with the “Jröner Jong” was designed by Nicolas de Pigage in the French classical style.
This makes Düsseldorf’s Hofgarten Germany’s first and oldest public park. Between 1797 and 1799, large parts of the Hofgarten fell victim to military planning. The French, who in the confusion of the Revolutionary wars had captured Düsseldorf, expanded the city into a fortification. However, following the peace treaty of Lunéville in 1801, the French had to leave Düsseldorf again and the fortifications were destroyed. This made room for the expansion of the Hofgarten, which was begun according to plans by Maximilian Weyhe in 1804.
The plans were expressly approved by Napoleon in 1811, who left the former wall site to the people of Düsseldorf with a “beautification decree”. Weyhe created a landscape garden in the English style. His art of designing gentle elevations and valleys to conjure up a “natural” landscape is reflected in the Hofgarten: the interplay of the Landskrone, Hexenberg and Ananasberg hills as well as the Napoleonsberg with the bordering, extensive meadows is a masterpiece. Weyhe also redesigned large parts of the old French section of the garden; only the Reitallee and the Seufzerallee beside the Düssel remained as they were. The Hofgarten was incorporated into the city planning of the time. Despite their differing characters and views, the garden architect Weyhe and the city planner Adolph von Vagedes worked together closely and fruitfully. The aim was to create a swathe of green stretching from the Rhine, through the Schwanenspiegel, Königsallee, Hofgarten and Heinrich-Heine-Allee back to the Rhine. For the EUROGA 2002plus with its theme “Decentralised State Garden Show”, the Hofgarten was the first public park in Germany to be renovated.
The Hofgarten is adorned by numerous historic monuments and modern sculptures. As “artistic objects” they complement the diverse landscapes of the park and add an attractive touch. Probably the most popular is the Märchenbrunnen: with its winsome forms and charm in a secluded corner near the pond, it invites those out for a stroll to linger and look at the fairytale figures. In addition there is the neo-classic-romantic Stephanien bust, the simple monument for the Hofgarten creator Weyhe, and the thought-provoking memorials for fallen soldiers; and last but not least modern sculptures like Vadim Sidhur’s “Mahner” and the reclining figure in two parts by Henry Moore.

The Marktplatz denotes the heart of Dusseldorf’s Old Town (Altstadt) and city center. Come here to admire the architecture of the City Hall and be part of a busy program of cultural events. The square dates back to the 14th century, the period of the city’s first major urban development.
One of the first ports of call should be the City Hall (Rathaus). Originally built in 1570, it occupies much of the western and northern sides of the square. Architecture connoisseurs will appreciate the blend of Baroque and Neo-Renaissance architectural styles.
Check out the equestrian statue of Johann Wilhelm II, which stands in the middle of the square. Italian-Flemish artist Gabriel Grupello designed it in 1711. Look for the statue of a boy by Willi Hoselmann. It celebrates the legend of a boy who collected silver from local residents and donated it to Grupello so that he could finish his work.
Visit Marktplatz for various cultural events. The Dusseldorf Carnival runs from early November to Ash Wednesday. It begins in Marktplatz at 11:11 a.m. on November 11 with the awakening of the Hoppeditz, a fictional jester character and the event’s mascot.

The history of construction and use of the City Hall of the City of Dusseldorf dates back to the years 1570/73 in the oldest parts of the building. Since then, the city center, located in the middle of the old town and in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine , has been the seat of the city council and the municipal administration. Until 1806, the oldest parts of the building, the old town hall , also served as a meeting place for the estates of the Duchies of Jülich-Berg. The main access and representative view are located on the enclosed from the town hall square .
The first building in Düsseldorf in which the city council met was probably opposite the Lambertus church and was the old customs house. The second town hall was known as the Zum Schwarzen Horn house , which is located on Ratinger Straße 6 and served as the town hall from 1470 to 1544. In 1545, the city acquired a building on the marketplace for the Schöffen and the Council, which was replaced after 1570 by a new building.
The present town hall consists of a total of five wings or parts of buildings, three of which surround the market square in a southerly direction and thus form the actual heart of the old town : The first and oldest wing is the Old Town Hall from 1573 (Marktplatz 1). In a right-angled bend, the New Town Hall and the former Grupello House of 1706 join. These two parts make up the second wing (marketplace 2 and 3). Opposite the Old Town Hall, the post-war administration building (Marktplatz 6) forms the youngest part of the complex. Another wing of the building is the former east wing of the Gemäldegalerie , to the north on Burgplatzborders. Towards the Rhine and the Rhine promenade , the rooms of the former School of Applied Arts complete the ensemble. In the middle of the market place is the Jan Wellem Reiter monument , a landmark of Dusseldorf.

The Rose Monday is traditionally the most important day of the Carnival season in the Rhine region because of the big parades. The parade in Dusseldorf is especially famous for its rather satirical floats made by Jacques Tilly and his workshop. The brass band that plays the music is the Musikzug Grafenstadt Hoya.

Traditionell ist der Rosenmontag wegen der Umzüge der wichtigste Tag der rheinischen Karnevalssaison. Der Düsseldorfer Zug ist insbesondere für seine ziemlich bissig-satirischen Mottowagen berühmt, die vom Künstler Jacques Tilly angefertigt werden. Die Blechbläserkapelle, die die Musik spielt, ist der Musikzug Grafenstadt Hoya e.V. 1994.

If you like plants and flowers, this is the right place for you: There are 6000 plant species in the Botanical Garden at Duesseldorf University. Partly on the extensive bedding plants in the park, partly in greenhouses. The filigree dome is also a greenhouse, where you'll find 400 different plant species from Chile, Australia, New Zealand or California, which need mediterranean climate.
At the outdoor area there are thematic tours and you can even explore a real swamp.
Twice a year you can make real bargains. At the plant market in spring and autumn, seedlings that have been bred by the students of Heinrich Heine University are for sale. When the dates are, you can find on the website: botanischergarten.hhu.de

Top Sightseeing Spots Duesseldorf: Christmas Market (english)
Do you know all Christmas Markets in the city center of Duesseldorf? There are seven different theme markets, which are not far from each other, sometimes even merge into one another: At Marktplatz is the Craftsman Market, on Henrich-Heine-Platz the Angel Market, on Flinger Straße the Old Town Market, in the courtyard of Wilhelm-Marx-Haus the Sternchenmarkt, on Schadowplatz the Fairytale Market, on Joachim-Erwin-Platz the Kö-Bogen-Markt and finally on Schadowstraße the Schadowmarkt. They all have different focuses but of course there are roasted almonds, mulled wine and Feuerzangenbowle. For children and families we recommend especially the Fairytale Market and the Kö-Bogen-Markt. There it is not so crowded and there are child friendly activities. Zwei Ausstellungen über einen Ausstellungsmacher sind außergewöhnlich und so extravagant wie ihr Thema, die Legende Harald Szeemann. Der Schweizer realisierte experimentelle Ausstellungen, die damalige Konventionen sprengten. Dadurch und durch sein eigensinniges Selbstverständnis als Ausstellungsmacher, wie auch durch die Art und Weise, mit Künstlerinnen und Künstlern zu arbeiten, hat er das Verständnis der kuratorischen Tätigkeit nachhaltig verändert.
Die umfassende Ausstellung gibt einen Einblick in das Leben und Wirken von Harald Szeemann und zeigt die Komplexität seiner Themen, Interessen und Entwicklungen anhand von Archivdokumenten, aber auch von Kunstwerken und Filmen.
Harald Szeemann wurde 1933 in Bern geboren. Während seiner Tätigkeit als Leiter der dortigen Kunsthalle von 1961 bis 1969 und danach als freier Kurator in seiner „Agentur für geistige Gastarbeit“ in Tegna im Tessin fern aller institutionellen Zwänge kuratierte er bis zu seinem Tod im Jahre 2005 rund 200 Ausstellungen. In der Fabbrica Rosa in Maggia hatte er sein Büro; hier archivierte er auf 2.700 m² seine Arbeits- und Recherchematerialien für seine revolutionären Projekte, denn neben dem Kuratieren gehörten das Sammeln und Dokumentieren zu seinen Leidenschaften.

Marktplatz - Kerst in Düsseldorf
Een prachtige coulisse voor de Kerstmarkt op het marktplein vormt het Düsseldorfer Raadhuis. Aan de voet van het symbool van Düsseldorf, het ruiterstandbeeld Jan Wellem, staat een betoverend mooi deel van de kerstmarkt, met kraampjes die qua kleur en stijl aansluiten bij het in baksteen opgetrokken historische Renaissance-raadhuis in het centrum van de oude binnenstad van Düsseldorf. Glühwein en warme chocolade nodigen u uit om hier even stil te staan. Kunstsmeden, glasblazers en kunstdraaiers bieden hun goederen te koop aan. Er is nog meer: de beoefenaars van de kunstnijverheid, maar ook de kaarsenmakers, laten zich bij hun werk over de schouder kijken. Een compleet gerestaureerde en bijna 100 jaar oude draaimolen is de attractie voor groot en klein op dit plein. Altijd weer bezienswaardig: de handgesneden, levensgrote kribbe uit het district Bethlehem.

Wiedereröffnung der Mahn- und Gedenkstätte Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf 2015
Nachdem das Stadthaus 2009 von der Stadt Düsseldorf an die Firma Derag verkauft wurde, musste die 1987 eröffnete Mahn- und Gedenkstätte im Rahmen der allgemeinen Baumaßnahmen komplett neu gestaltet werden. Am 12. Mai 2015 wurden die neuen Räumlichkeiten den Mitgliedern des Förderkreises vorgestellt. Am 14. Mai 2015 lud OB Thomas Geisel zu einem Festakt zur feierlichen Wiedereröffnung und zur Eröffnung der neuen Dauerausstellung Düsseldorfer Kinder und Jugendliche im Nationalsozialismus in den Plenarsaal des Rathauses ein. Am 16. Mai 2015 folgte die Eröffnung für die Öffentlichkeit.
Kickstarter Story Perspectives of the Great War (World War One)
Düsseldorfer Historiker steht kurz vor der Publikation einer Kickstarter Kampagne. Die Kampagne ist genehmigt und am 1. März soll es losgehen. Inhalt der Kampagne wird ein historischer Bildband aus dem Ersten Weltkrieg sein. Er soll aus privaten Fotoaufnahmen des aus Düsseldorf stammenden Robert Lichte bestehen. Dieser hinterließ acht Fotoalben und ein Postkartenalbum. Sie halten den Weltkrieg aus Sicht deutscher Soldaten fest. Der Bildband soll in zwei Sprachen erscheinen Englisch und Deutsch. Ziel der Kickstarter Kampagne soll die Einnahme von mindestens 20.000 € sein um den Bildband zu verwirklichen.
Marius Moneth, Doktorand an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität, erklärt: „Mein Ziel ist es, mehrere private Fotografie Alben von einem deutschen Unteroffizier aus dem Ersten Weltkrieg in einem ersten kommentierten Bildband zusammen zu fassen und mit der Öffentlichkeit zu teilen. Der Bildband wird aus den Bildern der Alben, wissenschaftlichen Kommentaren und Übersetzungen bestehen.“
Für den Historiker ist die Kampagne das erste große internationale Projekt. Er hat sein Studium der historischen Bildwissenschaft gewidmet. Pictorial Turn Mitchell Aus der Sicht des kleinen Mannes
Er möchte nun diesen Bildband erstellen um der Allgemeinheit die private Sicht auf den Großen Krieg näher zu bringen. Er verspricht: „Ich habe die Kampagne so konzipiert, dass selbst Menschen mit kleinem Budget einen Einblick in die Geschichte des Ersten Weltkrieges bekommen können, daher “

Auf Heines Spuren in Düsseldorf, Hamburg und Paris erzählt Ioona Rauschan die
Geschichte seines Lebens aus einem eigenen poetischen Blickwinkel, ohne die
Chronologie der Ereignisse und Heines Texte aus den Augen zu verlieren. Optischer
Mittelpunkt ist ein künstlicher Raum, in dessen Zentrum ein Schreibtisch steht der durch
eine Art virtuelles Fenster mit der Außenwelt verbunden ist. Er wandelt sich am Ende in
Heines Matratzengruft, aus der er krank, aber geistig ungebrochen auf die Welt schaut.
