The warm waters are rich in many minerals like silica and sulfur and bathing in the Blue Lagoon is reputed to help some people suffering from skin diseases such as psoriasis.
The water temperature in the bathing and swimming area of the lagoon averages 37–39 °C (99–102 °F).
The Blue Lagoon also operates a research and development facility to help find cures for other skin ailments using the mineral-rich water.

Gunnuhver Hot Springs Iceland Reykjanes peninsula geotermal area shots from drone aerial video
Gunnuhver is the largest geothermal field on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The name derives from the legend of a poor woman named Gudrun.
That woman lived near the village Sanderdi, whose owner was a lawyer Vilhjálmur Jonsson. When Gunn had from which to pay the rent, Vilhjálmur took her only property - kettle for cooking. The woman fell into a frenzy of rage, she refused to drink holy water and died. On the way to the cemetery, the men carrying the coffin, they noticed that it has become suspiciously light, and digging the grave of the people heard the voice, You do not have to dig too deep. I'm not going to lie long. Soon the entire peninsula began to be haunted, ghost Gudrun threatened and harassed locals, while living near the priest Eirikkur Magnusson not pledged to trap him, and through the ruse did not imprison him in a geyser .. Reportedly, these events took place over 300 years ago and notes about Gudrun can be found in the list of Arnie Magnusson from 1703.
After all still believe that bubbling and hissing from the earth is really moaning condemned Gudrun and that the get victims who too licked off the geyser by wearing a cloud of poisonous gas, which after a while melts together with imprisoned in the souls.
In Gunnuhver can observe countless holes in the ground, in the air ejection cloud of gases, and the pool of boiling mud, which give the place gloomy climate.
The explanation of the phenomenon of the place is as interesting as the above legend. Located beneath the earth's surface magma heats seeping through the cracks and port rock sea water, which then evaporates under pressure, bringing to the surface of the earth. Are each other minerals, including a lot of sulfur and sodium chloride.
Walk allow wooden bridges. This is the heart of planned future geo-park, which is an area within which there are important and unique from the geological point of view position.
How to get to the Gunnuhver?
To reach the cliffs Valahnukur, we follow the road 425 valahnukur-klifyjadąc coast from the town hafnir toward Grindavíku, pass the geothermal power station and exit to the lighthouse Reykjanesviti, after a few hundred meters, suggesting a sign, turn right on gravel road leading to the parking lot at Gunnuhver.

Hekla is a stratovolcano located in the south of Iceland with a height of 1,491 metres (4,892 ft). Hekla is Iceland's most active volcano; over 20 eruptions have occurred in and around the volcano since 874. During the Middle Ages, Icelanders called the volcano the Gateway to Hell.
Landmannalaugar (Flying over Landmannalaugar Highland Iceland):
Landmannalaugar (Icelandic, meaning the people's pools) is a region near the volcano Hekla in southern section of Iceland's highlands.
The Landmannalaugar area is a popular tourist destination and hiking hub in Iceland's highlands. The area displays a number of unusual geological elements, like the multicolored rhyolite mountains and expansive lava fields, not far from the service center.

Ice cave Kverkfjöll
The mountain range Kverkfjöll (1,764 m) is situated on the north-eastern border of the glacier Vatnajökull in Iceland. With their glacier Kverkjökull, they are to be found between the Vatnajökull and the Dyngjufjöll (s. Askja). The mountains are still active volcanoes. Especially around 1720, they were often erupting and causing glacier runs.
Under the mountains, there is a very big and hot magma chamber which lead to the originating of glacier caves. In the meantime, they cannot be visited any more because they could collapse.
Askja is a stratovolcano situated in a remote part of the central highlands of Iceland. The name Askja refers to a complex of nested calderas within the surrounding Dyngjufjöll mountains, which rise to 1,510 m (4,954 ft).
The region is only accessible for a few months of the year. Being situated in the rain-shadow to the NE of the Vatnajökull icecap, the area receives only about 450 mm of rainfall annually. The area was used during training for the Apollo program to prepare astronauts for potential lunar conditions.

Mývatn is a shallow eutrophic lake situated in an area of active volcanism in the north of Iceland, not far from Krafla volcano. The lake and its surrounding wetlands have an exceptionally rich fauna of waterbirds, especially ducks.
Kerlingarfjöll (1,477 m (4,846 ft)) is a mountain range in Iceland situated in the Highlands of Iceland near the Kjölur highland road. The volcanic origin of these mountains is evidenced by the numerous hot springs and rivulets in the area. And indeed, they are part of a large volcano system of 100km² (38.6 square mile). The volcanoes of the range are tuyas.

Landmannalaugar, Iceland
Landmannalaugar is a famous volcanic region is central Iceland.
This region is full of geothermal activity, hot pools, volcanic peaks and by its magnific colorful rhyolitic mountains.
There is a small hut where you can sleep and cook, but you have to bring the food with you. Landmannalaugar is a very remote place (you can go by car, only with specially-adapted vehicles). It stays about 5 hours from Reykjavik. You will travel through lunar-like landscapes to get there, particularly close to Hekla or Eldgja.
Close to the hut, stays the colorful valley of Jokulgil with many very hot (volcanic) and very cold (melting ice) pools. When the water mixes, you can swim although its a pleasant but strange mix of hot and cold currents. Here you find one black-greyish volcano, Blahnukur, with plenty of ash in its slopes.
About one hour from the hut, lies Brennisteinsalda, the most colorful mountain and volcano in Iceland, with red, yellowish, grey and green colors. Even blue rocks you can find! You will cross a large lava field from its last eruption 500 years ago. And you will find a few craters full of sulphur vapours.
In this place, you can climb and hike a lot, but the weather can be tricky and the trails risky. One of the major and famous trails leads to Thorsmork, 50km to the south, and it takes 3-4 days. Be careful when crossing the glacial rivers, it feels very close to your legs nd they change current fast. You also find a swamp place close to Brennisteinsalda with interesting flora.
In Landmannalaugar, you find a mix of volcanoes, lava fields, ash landscapes, snow, glacial rivers, and plenty of colours. We love this place, despite the foggy weather. When the sun shines the colors of the valley are really awesome!

The depth axis is compressed about 2x in order to visualize the location of the earthquakes in respect to the Moho layer.

Leirubakki Hotel Restaurant South Iceland
Leirubakki is only 100 km from Reykjavík, on good, paved road the whole way. It lies in the heart of South Iceland and most historical sites and natural wonders of this part of the country are within one hour's drive.
Hotel Leirubakki and the Hekla Center welcome guests all year round. The area is renowned for its natural beauty and its good weather. There are outstanding views in all directions and little is better than relaxing in the hotel's hot tubs or pool, whether under the midnight sun of summer or sparkling northern lights and stars in winter.
Iceland - Jokulsarlon - Glacier Lagoon - Iceland South Coast Tour - Sept. 26., 2010
Iceland - Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is one of natures wonders where huge icebergs float around on their epic journey to the ocean. It had been raining a lot so the ice was very blue because the rainwater fills up the cracks in the ice and make the blue color more visible than ever.
In the passed few years the lagoon has become the deepest lake in Iceland at 284 meters but the former deepest and now second deepest lake in Iceland is Askja which is approximately 217 meters deep. The lagoon is getting deeper every day since Breidamerkurjokull glacier which is part of Vatnajokull glacier is continuously melting faster and faster. The lakes surface was measured more than 22 sq. km. in 2009.
