All aboard! Northland celebrates new rail line announcement
There's jubilation in Northland with the news that the government is to rebuild the railway line from Auckland to Whangārei.
The Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones made the announcement at the Helensville Railway station at a function that almost turned into a party, and ended with a train ride for the happy hordes.
RNZ Northland reporter Lois Williams and cameraman Nick Monro filed this report.

Helensville Train: Rid'n 2 Rodney, Waimauku, NZ 14/11/2008
Escaping the city - daily (Monday - Friday) return train trip runs through rural nor-west to Helensville from Britomart, Henderson and Waitakere, New Zealand: The train gets underway from Waimauku Railway station at 6:45pm.
Return trip departs Britomart daily 5:30pm, New Lynn 5:56pm, Henderson 6:08pm, Waitakere 6:23pm, Arrives Helensville at 7:03pm. Departs Helensville for Britomart at 7:15pm.
Helensville Commuters depart Helensville (6:30am), Waimauku and Huapai and return at 5:30pm from Britomart Transport Centre.
Ex Britomart $9.10 per adult each way.
Ex Henderson $4.80 per adult each way.
Ex Waitakere $3.80 per adult each way.

Helensville riverside walkway, Rodney Auckland New Zealand aboard Whangarei tourist train
Looking at the fantastic Helensville Riverside walkway, beside the Kaipara Railway line, taken from the outdoor viewing balcony of a Whangarei to Auckland tourist passenger train. The riverside walkway runs from the Helensville main street between the banks of the Kaipara River and North Auckland railway with viewing facilities and shelter provided.
Helensville MAXX Trains & 120 Express Freight
DC 4381, returning from Helensville with the third of four Santa Parade specials, using an SA4 set, races through Swanson at 1826hrs on Sunday 25th November 2012, while DCP 4818 waits on the other track, before following it.
Then ten minutes later at 1836hrs, DC 4951 departs Swanson for Helensville, with five passengers onboard.
Then lastly, at 1854hrs, DC 4594 and DFT 7282 head westbound across North Candia Road into Swanson, enroute to Whangarei with a 40-total #120 Express Freight.
