Climbing Helgafell Holy Mountain in Styyishholmer in Iceland
Holy Mountain, 73 m with a breathtaking panoramic view across Breiðafjordur Bay. A viewing dial is at the top.
Folklore advises anyone climbing the mountain for the first time to start north of the church at the grave of Gudrun Osvifursdottir (heroine of Laxdaela Saga, died 1008) and three wishes will be granted when ascending the mountain without looking back or speaking. The wishes have to be of good intent, and the wisher tells no one and faces east when making them!
A small remnant of a wall on the mountain top is dated 1184 and was part of a nearby monastery built at this time.
Helgafell in Iceland
Climbing Mount Helgafell (The Holy Mountain) - folklore says that those who are climbing the mountain for the first time should start at the grave of Gudrun Osvifursdottir (dated 1008!) and follow the path to the top of the mountain without looking back or saying a word until you reach the top. Those who do this and are pure of heart will be granted three wishes when facing east.

Iceland Heli Trip 2014
Here is my buddy Allan Brook's video from our Heli trip to Iceland in April of 2014. Great Arctic Heli Skiing experience in Siglufjordur (Just north of Akureyri) in Northern Iceland. Lots of wide open unchartered terrain, natural hot springs, and super nice people! All followed by a little throw down party time in Reykjavik!

Juhan Puhm ~ Violin Concerto 1st Movement
Juhan Puhm ~ Violin Concerto - 1st Movement
I composed my Violin Concerto in 4 months over the summer of 2012. The photos are from my hiking trip to Iceland in 2009. The first photos are from the bus trip between Reykjavik and Stykkisholmur including photos from Helgafell. These are followed by photos taken on the long road around Breidafjord to Latrabjarg and then onto Isafjordur. I was very fortunate to get a ride this entire distance. Thank you kind person, without whom I would not have been able to see and take in the amount of Iceland I did, including getting up to Hornstrandir. From Isafjordur the photos are from the boat to Hornstrandir where I was dropped off in Adalvik. More about the Violin Concerto, including the score can be found at
