Old Harbor (Nuniaq[5] in Alutiiq) is a city in Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 218.[
The community of Old Harbor has its origins in the era of Russian conquest. On August 14, 1784, Grigory Shelikhov with 130 Russian fur traders massacred (see Awa'uq Massacre) several hundred Qik’rtarmiut Sugpiat tribe of Alutiiq men, women and children at Refuge Rock, a tiny stack island off the eastern coast of Sitkalidak Island. In Alutiiq, this sacred place is known as Awa'uq (to become numb).[7][8]

Flying to the Nike Missile site and the Knik Glacier in Alaska with Tanalian Aviation 2014
On the last day of our tour of Alaska with Grayline Tours Vinnie Coluccio, Belmont - Westborough, Massachusetts was stationed at Elmindorf AFB in 1955 and he wanted to see the decommissioned “Nike Missile” silos used to protect the United States against Russia.
We landed at the Knik Glacier and celebrated Vinnie's return to Alaska. Knik Glacier climbs from the tide waters of the Knik River up to 7,000 ft on the top of the Chugach ice fields.

MEMORIES FROM THE ANTARCTIC USA STATIONS 1999-2004
FILM WAS MADE AS A RESULT OF COOPERATION WITH RICK BROHMAN.
PICTURES AND SUBTITLES: RICK BROHMAN
MUSIC: LET ME LOVE YOU (INSTRUMENTAL), SCHILLER
VIDEO EDITING: ANNA K.
Memories in that video describe events in 1999-2004 both in summer and winter seasons. Rick was hired by the main contractor Antarctic Support Associates to serve the National Science Foundation as an electrician at McMurdo Station. He setted up a deep field camp for the science team that would live and work there.
It is a reminiscence of a McMurdo Station, Palmer Station with Lemaire Channel, The Transantarctic Mountains with Dry Valleys, Mount Erebus.
More information about video content:
McMurdo Station is a U.S. Antarctic research centre located on the south tip of Ross Island, which is in the New Zealand-claimed Ross Dependency in Antarctica. McMurdo is operated by the United States through the United States Antarctic Program, a branch of the National Science Foundation. The station is the largest community in Antarctica, capable of supporting up to 1258 residents, and serves as the United States Antarctic science facility.
Palmer Station, on Anvers Island, is the only United States research station in Antarctica located north of the Antarctic Circle. Initial construction of the station finished in 1968. The station, like the other U.S. Antarctic stations, is operated by the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). The base is only about as distant from the equator as Fairbanks, Alaska. The maximum population that Palmer Station can accommodate is 46 people. The normal austral summer contingent varies but is generally around 40 people. Palmer is staffed year-round; however, the population drops to 15-20 people for winter maintenance after the conclusion of the summer research season.
Mount Erebus is the second highest volcano in Antarctica (after Mount Sidley) and the southernmost active volcano on earth. It is the 6th highest ultra mountain on an island. With a summit elevation of 3,794 metres (12,448 ft), it is located on Ross Island, which is also home to three inactive volcanoes, Mount Terror, Mount Bird, and Mount Terra Nova.

Hatcher Pass Lodge and Cafe Alaska 4K UHD
We stopped at the Hatcher Pass Lodge and Cafe while in Palmer Alaska. It was scenic there but the lodges looked abandoned. The kitchen in the Cafe was closed due to a lack of visitors but they served drinks or coffee. There are far better lodging options if you want to closer to nature such as the Knik River Lodges in Palmer. We didn't see too many cars go by either. It was probably still too early in the season for this elevation.
