Heliopolis - Highlight of Ancient Egypt and Modern Cairo
Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt - The place that in Greek is translated to sun city and which is considered the major city of ancient Egypt and the sun that lights the new modern Cairo, Egypt, these days.
In Cairo, Egypt, there are now different residence areas found out there, but those which are considered the oldest are downtown, Cairo, as well as Heliopolis area, and this could be witnessed from the old buildings that combine atheism, European, and Islamic designs all in the same place.
Historically, Heliopolis was the major city of ancient Egypt, it was the capital of the 13th or Heliopolite Nome of lower Egypt and a major religious center. There were different temples and other buildings in this area that were mostly destroyed in order to build medieval Cairo, yet there are some buildings that are living until this day, such as Baron Palace, the Obelisk of the Temple of Ra-Atum which is now called Al-Masalla and found in Al-Matariyyah in Cairo, as well as those buildings which one will come across in Korba area and Roxy.
Although there are now different areas that are considered part of Heliopolis, the ones which are mainly thought about when the name is mentioned now are the area around Al-Baron Palace, the area which is now known as Korba, as well as Roxy area; there might be other things to come into consideration but those are considered the ones mostly known to be part of Heliopolis.
There are important places to visit in Cairo, Egypt, when in comes to Heliopolis (which is also now referred to as New Egypt مصر الجديدة) and from these we would suggest Korba, where there are different buildings for you to get impressed by and there are several cafes and restaurants to sit at; this area is considered now an elite area in Heliopolis.
Just minutes away from Korba, there are two different directions to head to, either you will go to check the Roxy residence area, which is now nothing but a lot of shops and a crowded area, or else you will head to the other direction and check the Baron Palace, which is considered a much better plan.
The Baron Empain Palace was the residence of Baron Empain who was a famous Egyptologist and prominent Belgian Entrepreneur. This palace was inspired by the Hindu temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia; it was designed by the French architect, Alexandre Marcel and was decorated by Georges Louis Claude.
The Baron palace is one of the most important landmarks of Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt, because it is not only perfectly designed, but because it is the place where the person, Baron Empain, who established Heliopolis was living. Establishing Heliopolis was done with the help of Boghos Nubar.
Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt is the location of Cairo International Airport and it is considered the center of the New Egypt area. Heliopolis is also considered the place where the wealthy Egyptians tend to live, especially when it comes to the area surrounding the Baron Palace.
Around the are of the Baron palace, you might find some outstanding buildings as well, these go back to important characters in the old times but which mostly now belong to the Egyptian Military or else are used as a presidential guest house.
This area is too close to the airport, only 10 minutes away by car, the problem comes when there are traffic jams in Salah Salem street, which is considered the most famous. The only problem one might find if decided to stay in Heliopolis during his/her trip to Egypt is the fact that it is not so close to the other landmarks and historical areas which one would be willing to visit in the same way it would be if one stayed in the downtown area (
There are lots of things to see in Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt, when it comes to the religious part, there are different mosques, cathedrals, and there is even Al-Missalah street synagogue, making this place a mixture of religions that could satisfy everyone's needs.
It is interesting to see things that hold mythical stories behind such as the case with Al Baron palace which is closed to the public. This place is referred to as the house of ghosts or the house of horror due to the different sounds of furniture moving at night or else the lights that flash inside the tower that happen at night and which were even seen by those residents who are living around the palace.
There are different things to do in Cairo, Egypt, in general, such as heading to the Egyptian Museum ( enjoying the Nile River ( heading to the Pyramids ( or even checking the hidden treasures of this country which might be related to gardens, restaurants, and night life, or else heading to old Cairo area and enjoying the hidden gems that one could find there (
Have you been to Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt? What do you think about this place?

Infos about Shobra:
Shobra is one of the largest districts of Cairo, Egypt and it is administratively divided into three areas: Shobra, Road El Farag, and Elsahel.
Ironically, although Shubra has been immensely large for the last few decades, the name originally derives from the Coptic word ϭⲱⲡⲣⲟ Šopro, which means a small village or field, as the area is well known for its rich fields that neighbour the Nile River. In Egypt, there are many neighborhoods, towns and villages that bear the name of Shubra, for example, the administrative region of Shubra that is within the large district of Shubra, both of which are not to be confused with one of Qalyubia's industrial suburbs, Shubra El-Kheima. Of the less well-known areas — villages specifically — there are also several places that bear the name of Shubra, such as the Shubra Bekhoum village that is about 75 minutes away from Cairo. However, these areas are quite distinguishable as the word Shobra has come to include only a general meaning and does not fully describe all of these regions in a literal sense.
During the rule of Muhammad Ali of Egypt, Shubra was developed into a residential area after he built himself a palace in the area and extended Shobra street in 1808.
The present-day area is now heavily populated, with an estimated three million residents mostly Muslims, but including a large Coptic population. Shobra has a high concentration of Copts in Cairo. There are several churches throughout the district's neighborhoods, such as the decades-old Church of St. Mary in Massarra and St. George, El-Geushi. Shobra is served by the Cairo Metro. Shobra has also an Islamic flavor as there are so many mosques side by side to the churches in a way that most of the time you can hardly notice to which the minaret belongs. One of the most renowned mosques in Shobra is el Khazen Dar mosque, which is named after a job at the time of the Ottoman Empire. The palace of Muhammad Ali is the most renowned tourist attraction in Shobra, and cost more than 50 million Egyptian pounds to be restored.

In another video I am going to upload, you can watch an alternate route wiht less traffic at the same time. The goal of this session was the german embassy at the end of the street. For safety reason I stopped recording before reaching the embassy by round about 500 meters.

Here some facts about Zamalek:
Zamalek which is originally derived from Turkish: (üzümlük, meaning vineyard) is an affluent district of western Cairo encompassing the northern portion of Gezira Island in the Nile River. The island is connected with the river banks through three bridges each on the east and west sides of the island, including the Qasr El Nil Bridge and 6th October Bridge. It has witnessed many phases of growth affected by many economic and political currents which has led to a crowding of parts of the island including great reductions in the Zamalek district's open green areas, but with a large greenbelt across the island's middle defining the two districts.
Zamalek, along with Maadi, Mohandessin, Heliopolis, and Garden City, is one of the affluent residential districts in Greater Cairo. Many non-Egyptians live in Zamalek. There are many apartments with sporadic maintenance because the landlords rarely make improvements; there are rent control programmes that allow several Zamalek complexes to house low income and middle income Egyptians.
The quiet, leafy streets and 19th-century apartment blocks and villas make this one of the most attractive parts of the city and a favored residential location for many of Cairo's European expatriates. It is also the district of many fine restaurants, bars and cafes, including traditional open-air ahwas and European cappuccino bars. The Gezira Island area is culturally active: with art galleries and museums, including the Museum of Islamic Ceramics; and two of Cairo’s major music and performing arts venues — the spacious Egyptian Opera House complex, and the El Sawy Culturewheel Centre.
Several Zamalek buildings have an Art Deco style.
Under Khedive Ismail the Island was called Jardin des Plantes (Garden of Plants), because of its great collection of exotic plants shipped from all over the world. French landscape designer De la Chevalerie designed the island's landscape plan, gardens, and plant nurseries. On the east shore a kiosk was built for attending the island and supervising its development.
The kiosk was replaced in 1869 with the Gezirah Palace, a U-shaped summer mansion, which was designed by Julius Franz Pasha and decorated by Karl Von Diebitsch. The palace was built and first used for guests attending the 1869 opening of the Suez Canal. Emperor Franz Josef I of Austria and Eugénie, Empress of the French were some of the noble guests of the palace. Today the Gezira Palace is the central part of the Cairo Marriott Hotel, with its rooftop having an open-air theatre facing the Nile.
Other palaces were also built in Zamalek, including Prince Sa'id Toussoun's palace, which is now a branch of the Council of Ministers, and Prince Amr Ibrahim's palace (1924), which is now the Museum of Islamic Ceramics. In 1882 the Gezira Sporting Club was built in the southern region of the island. Later a water garden known as the Grotto Garden, with a rare collection of African fish, was built by British Captain Stanley Flower in Zamalek.
Several notable Egyptian figures lived in Zamalek including the Diva of the East Umm Kulthum.

I have recorded the way from Heliopolis to Sun City Mall in Sheraton el Matar.

With my recordings during driving I am not happy. That is why to buy a gopro cam for next year. Near Heliopolis there are 2 malls located, Sun City and City Stars in Madinet Nasr. I only can recommend Sun City. First parking is for free, you can find everything what you need there and a Carrefour Market. The only thing you can't find in Sun City is a cinema.
Sun City is open from 10:00AM to 12:00AM.
My cousin was the driver and I recorded as usual with Panasonic HC777.
