Helston Railway - A visit in 2014
The Helston Branch Line in Cornwall, UK ran for about 8 miles from the town of Helston to join the mainline at Gwinear Road. It was closed in the 1960s but over the last ten years or so a group have been working hard to restore a small part of the scenic line and now run brake van rides from Prospidnick Halt to Truthall Summit. This short video was filmed on a visit on a damp drizzly day in May 2014.

Helston Railway, March 2019
Continuing our drive we arrive at the furthest southerly heritage railway in the country, the Helston Railway. Running for 1.25 miles through beautiful west Cornwall scenery. With train services operated by a diesel locomotive on the day I was visiting I arrived at Prospidnick Halt, accessed through a farm! Having bought my ticket I await on the platform in a semi restored DMU, home to the cafe and kids activities for the train to return. Having boarded I take my position in the brake van, filing the route forwards as we head towards Trevarno station and on to the newly reopened Truthall Halt, which has been immaculately rebuilt! After a look in the exhibition and around the small station I re board the train for the return journey to Prospidnick Halt.
With plans for expansion the Helston Railway is a line to watch, and is certainly well worth a visit.

Visit to the Helston Railway Cornwall with SDJR 'Kilmersdon' - 5th May 2019
For the second year running we visited the Helston Railway over May Day Bank holiday.
This year I was able to ride behind a steam loco working the short branch line while on holiday in Cornwall.
SDJR Kilmersdon has been on loan from WSR since summer 2018.
This being the first steam over the branch for 55 years.
Kilmersdon's boiler certificate is about to run out & I understand it will spend its last few months at Helston before returning to WSR for overhaul.
The present day Helston Railway occupies 1.25 miles of the former
GWR Helston to Gwinear Road branch line & is Britains most southerly railway.
Plans have been drawn up to fund another 1 mile extension toward Helston.
It has been great to see how this lovely little railway has grown over the past few years.
We really had a lovely day on the line.

A visit to the re-opened section of Britain's most southerly branch line at Easter 2017. This short video is intended as an update on my video of a visit in May 2014 to show the progress that has been achieved since then. This includes extending the line to Truthall Halt. The line is well worth a visit, and my only relationship with the Helston Railway Preservation Society is as a paying customer.

Helston Railway is a very friendly preserved railway in Cornwall. It is the most southerly in the UK.
