Henry Ross Lookout Cairns
Henry Ross Lookout is situated on the Kuranda range on the way up to the Atherton Tablelands. It is definitely worth stopping here to take it all in. You can see Green Island, Fitzroy Island, Smithfield, Yorkeys Knob, Trinity Inlet and much more... The clouds rolling in for this time-lapse were pretty epic...
Old Smithfield Town and Cemetery, Cairns, Australia
Here's a quick CairnsBlog tour, with local environmentalist, Terry Spackman, showing the remains of 1870's Smithfield Township, that was washed away and hundreds killed in a series of massive floods in the late 1870's.
The re-established Smithfield township was built higher and to the North of the Barron River Delta, around 20 kilometers North of Cairns. However, to this day it still causes substantial flooding problems during the annual November - April wet season.
The Barron River delta encompasses an area from Machans Beach, on the southern banks of the Barron River, north to Smithfield, some 15 kilometers from Cairns. It is a constantly changing flood plain, with many dormant river systems the spring to life when the annual wet comes.
There were some huge floods throughout the last couple of centuries, and a number in the late 1970s.

What it's like to race the Crocodile Trophy with Subaru MarathonMTB.com
Subaru MarathonMTB.com once again took on the challenge of the 2012 Crocodile Trophy in far North Queensland, Australia in late 2012. Soon-to-be Novo-Nordisk pro Justin Morris, Mike Blewitt and Werner van der Merwe set about defending the Masters overall title they'd claimed a year earlier.
For Morris, a Type 1 diabetic, the race provides a unique challenge as he races in some of the most remote mountain bike courses in the world. Despite the challenges, the trio provide this insight into one of the toughest bike races on the planet.

Crocodile Trophy 2016 STAGE 02 Interview Annemiek vanVleuten (EN)
HUBER AND VAN VLEUTEN TAKE THE RACE LEADS IN ATHERTON
Urs Huber crossed the line in Atherton as the winner of Stage 2 of the 2016 Crocodile Trophy. Sebastien Carabin (BEL) comes in second (+3:50min) and the Austrian Manuel Pliem in third. The Dutch Olympic road racer Annemik van Vleuten wins the elite women's category ahead of Alice Pirard (BEL) in second (+28:45min) and Ruth Corset from Australia (+44:37min).
The word used most often by the riders arriving at the finish at Atherton's Coombra Station was 'brutal'. The Crocodile Trophy lived up to its reputation as the hardest mountain bike stage race on earth. Today's stage started with neutral ride out of Cairns towards the escarpment where the official start gun went and riders started the first tough climb towards Copperlode Dam. Then the elevation profile was full of steep pinches and hills - 2500vm were to cover in the one day. The final stretch after the last feedzone took even the elite riders well over an hour - strong headwinds making it very difficult to keep up a rhythm.
