This is the Herengracht Canal and Herengracht Centrum (street) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, as they appeared on Sunday afternoon, July 3, 2016. So many quaint canals in Amsterdam. Taking an open boat tour to see some of them was one of the highlights of our trip. This is a very friendly place to walk. Lots of bicycles everywhere.

This shows our walk across one of the many, many, many bridges in Amsterdam over the many, many canals. Here, we are walking across the Herengracht canal between Gasthuismolensteeg street and Hartenstraat street on Sunday afternoon, July 3, 2016. Lots of bicycles around as is the case all over Amsterdam.

This shows our walk along Gasthuismolensteeg street from Singel (the canal and the street) to Herengracht (again, both the canal and the street). In Amsterdam, the streets on both sides of a canal usually have the same name as the canal. The date is Sunday afternoon July 3, 2016 and this gives an idea of what the foot traffic is on a Sunday afternoon in July in this part of Amsterdam in this kind of weather. FYI, we were heading from Dam Square to the Anne Frank house at the time of this video.

Les canaux d'Amsterdam ont valu à la capitale des Pays-Bas, son surnom de « Venise du Nord » ; ils s'étendent en effet sur un total de plus de cent kilomètres, avec quelque 1 500 ponts qui les traversent, reliant environ 90 îles.
Les trois principaux canaux sont le Herengracht, le Prinsengracht, et le Keizersgracht. Construits aux xviie siècle pendant l'Âge d'or néerlandais, ils forment ce que l'on appelle la « courbure d'or ».
Le 14 juin 2010, les canaux d'Amsterdam ont obtenu le label patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco sous l'intitulé « Zone des canaux concentriques du xviie siècle à l'intérieur du Singelgracht ».
Herengracht :
Le Herengracht traduit par « canal des Patriciens » est le canal en partant du centre-ville qui se trouve le plus à l'intérieur parmi les trois principaux canaux. Il est prolongé à l'est par le Nieuwe Herengracht et se jette au nord-ouest dans le Brouwersgracht.
Il est très célèbre pour sa « courbure d'or » (Gouden Bocht) entre les ponts de la Leidsestraat et de la Vijzelstraat. Pour cela, il a souvent été représenté en peinture au xviie siècle notamment par le peintre Gerrit Berckheyde qui en a réalisa toute une série.
Les principales curiosités de ce canal sont Bijbels Museum (le musée biblique), le Kattenkabinet qui est un musée consacré aux chats, le Musée du Sac, le Museum Willet-Holthuysen, le Jardin botanique d'Amsterdam.

walking from Singel to Prinsengracht in Amsterdam, the Netherlands
This shows our walk from the Singel Canal to the Prinsengracht canal. Along the way we traverse the streets of Gasthuismolensteeg, Hartenstraat and Reestraat and cross over the Herengracht and Keisergracht canals. All of this in about 6 minutes. Amsterdam is a very walkable city. The video was taken on Sunday afternoon, July 3, 2016.
