Incheon Transit Tour - Heungryunsa Temple
On my R&R flight home I had a 9hr wait in South Korea before boarding my next plane. One of the great things about transiting in Incheon International Airport is they offer free transit tours. The 2 hour Incheon Temple Tour I took included a visit to this Heungryunsa Temple.

1Hr. tour - Yonggungsa Temple
Great way to do something interesting if you have a long stopover at Incheon - South Korea.
It's FREE and worth the while just to get out of the airport for some fresh air. Also just going for the ride to stare out the window while heading to the temple was better than nothing.
Gangwha Jeondeungsa Temple at Incheon City in Korea
설Jeondeungsa Temple contains significant architectural works, including the main building Daeungbojeon. Decorated with delicate carvings, it is a superlative example of the architecture of the mid-Joseon Dynasty. The canopy situated above the Buddha statue inside Daeungbojeon building showcases masterful workmanship. On the walls and columns of Daeungbojeon, visitors can see names of soldiers written on the walls. These soldiers fought against the French Navy and wrote their names in Jeondeungsa to pray to Buddha for good luck in war. You could read more details at
Incheon Temple trip
Bonus trip while we waited for our flight home from Icheon Airport, Seoul. Surprised to find free trips are available if you have enough time as a stopover ranging from 1 hour to 5 hours tours. We went on the 1 hour temple tour just 20 minutes away from the airport.
Free Transit Tour at Incheon, South Korea
While having a long hours of lay-over at Incheon International Airport, before going to San Francisco International Airport, a newly found Filipino friend and I decided to ask around about the free transit tour. Sure enough, we made it through to go out of the airport and went to Heungryunsa Temple→Incheon Grand Bridge
→Memorial Hall for Incheon Landing Operation→ and back to the airport.
You may check this link to know more of the free transit tour.
By the way, the reason of this trip is that I will be participating at the 29th Bay Area Storytelling Festival in Orinda, California.

[Korea temple] Seoul bongwonsa
Bongwon Temple (or Bongwonsa) is a South Korean Buddhist temple in Bongwon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, near Yonsei University.
Situated to the northeast of the university on the hillside of Ahn Mountain, this is the head temple of the Taego Order of Korean Buddhism. It was founded in 889 by Master Doseon and located on the current site of Yonsei University. It moved to its present location in 1748.
Part of the temple was destroyed in 1950 during the Korean War. In 1966 a new hall was built but this was later moved to another part of the city. In 1991 while a new Hall of 3000 Buddhas was being built, a fire destroyed the Main Buddha Hall, which was rebuilt in 1994. In the summer of 2004, it was discovered that serial killer Yoo Young-Cheol had buried over one dozen bodies of his victims on the temple grounds.
More than 50 monks live at the temple and are engaged in education and social welfare work.

These shots are only the activities we were able to do in a day. I think there are lots of great places to explore in South Korea. We didn't have visas but since we were traveling from the US (US Visa Holders), they allowed us to roam around. Great for transit tours! We had fun!
PS: Fun but super freezing cold! Experiencing winter in Seoul South Korea!

Transit Tour Incheon South Korea
This is a 2 hour transit tour around Incheon. Highly recommendable!
[TV ZONE] The Beauty of Exquisite Curves, Heungguksa, Yeosu, Honggyo
Honggyo of Heungguksa, Yeosu (Treasure No. 563)
Jungheung-dong, Yeosu, Jeollanam-do
It has been passed down that in 1639 (17th year of Injo), Monk Gyeteuk constructed Honggyo. 11.8m long and 5.5m high, among all the rainbow-arched bridges discovered so far, it is the longest and tallest.
There are 86 rectangular granite stones stacked together to support its weight. In the middle of the bridge, there are two dragon heads, which chase away the demons and wish good fortune on those who cross, carved on either side.

50Fotos -- Seoul, Korea HD
How much can you see in three hours? Lots! Korea's Incheon Airport offers a FREE five-hour city transit tour if you have a long, daytime layover. The airport is about an hour by bus from Seoul, so that leaves just three hours for highlights of this fantastic city. My layover was 14 hours, so I still had time to explore Incheon – one of the world's best airports – with lots of free entertainment, sleep-on-able chairs, massage chairs, internet lounges, movie showrooms, art exhibits, low-priced shops, and even free showers. Search 50Fotos for more Asia-Pacific slideshows. Photos by Greg Knudsen, March 31, 2014.
