'60 hikes within 60 miles of St. Louis' book on Amazon:
*This trail has two short hiking trails offer good views of the area's distinctive bluffs and canyons. A one-quarter mile trail from the parking area leads to a steep-walled box canyon. Across the road from the parking area is a more strenuous, one mile trail that traverses the steep terrain through the sandstone forest. It also crosses a scenic creek in a few locations.*

Hickory Canyon April 2018
There are several feeding canyons to the main Hickory Canyon, which is a State Park ten miles northeast of Farmington, MO in Ste. Genevieve County. In Springtime there is usually more water flowing into the canyons. Most of the canyons have several waterfalls, one main one and several smaller side waterfalls.
Hickory Canyons/Elephant Rock State Park • 11/3/18
Squeezing in one last nature trip before the winter. Was hoping for a waterfall at Hickory Canyons (between Farmington & St. Genevieve, Mo), bc of recent heavy rains, but it was only a trickle. Still lovely! The Autumn foliage was in all it's glory; & we couldn't have picked a better time to go to Elephant Rock State Park (near historic Ironton, Mo.), one of our favorite places. Hwys 21 & 72, are some of the prettiest roads to travel in the Fall, especially around the picturesque Arcadia Valley. Love how there are so many things made from the plentiful local rocks, even the guardrails. We always have to stop at this beautiful old bridge, & take in the amazing view of the St. Francis River. Our home state of Missouri has some truly stunning natural areas! Wonderful little road trip.
Adventure: #87 Pickle Spring & Hickory Canyon
Chased some waterfalls at Pickle Spring and Hickory Canyon natural areas. Along the way I had a good hike, got to try out the new camera, and spend a great day in the woods.

St. Francois County 911/Ste. Genevieve County (Missouri) Case Study Video
In this video, Alan Wells, Director of the St. Francois County 911/ Ste. Genevieve County 911 consolidated dispatch center in Missouri discusses his agency’s experience with NICE. The center dispatches for 33 agencies including police, fire and EMS. Wells says his agency uses NICE solutions in both primary and secondary (backup) dispatch centers to record all phone lines and radio frequencies. NICE Inform is central to the agency’s quality assurance program and also essential for fulfilling records requests. The center relies on integrated screen recording for documenting how incidents were handled and to enhance its quality assurance program. Wells says that his records management team and quality assurance team both love the ease-of-use and robust functionality of NICE Inform.

Christian explores a canyon while practicing his OT with water, trees, rocks & cliffs
Exploring Missouri is always fun and when we can practice Occupational Therapy while enjoying the beauty nature has to offer who could resist a trip to Hickory Canyon Natural Reserve. It was exciting to climb cliffs and walk over the logs in water. Pushing and pulling always helps when I become anxious and need to find some grounding. I like to ware my backpack to help with grounding also. I like to find places to practice my O.T. in such fun and exciting places. This was new and different because I am usually afraid of heights, but I was able to climb not be as afraid as I usually am. I even surprised myself when I walked across the tree bridge with water under it.
Watch my video where my Chiweenie finds our way out of this place!! We were excited to have fun with O.T. and exploring but lost track of our trail, had no cell service, and no compass. Luckily, we did have Duke!!!
Hickory Canyons lost with my Nana and our Chiweenie finds our way out! Christian in Hickory Canyons Natural Area- Sainte Genevieve, Missouri
We spent the day looking for the waterfall and ended up getting lost in the canyons. We lost cell phone reception and could not find our way out. Luckily our Chiweenie Duke found our way out of the canyons. Duke was surprised by a turtle (he never saw one before) after a short investigation of the slowly moving turtle Duke continued on his way and found the trail back to the car! We were tired, hot, and hungry; however, we were safe and sound.

Explore amazing canyons carved from ancient Lamotte sandstone.
See plant species more common to the northeast U.S.
Enjoy scenic wet weather waterfalls.
[The Lamotte sandstone here was formed from the sandy beaches of a shallow ocean that existed 500 million years ago. Layers of limestone were deposited over the sandstone, but millions of years of erosion and uplift of the Ozark Plateau exposed the sandstone we see today. After a rain event a wet-weather waterfall can be enjoyed from the end of the hiking trail on the east side of the county road. In the spring the headwater creeks here are a good place to spot a Louisiana waterthrush.]

Echo Bluff State Park - Park Tour - Park Travel Review
Echo Bluff State Park is Missouri's 88th State Park and it is a gem in South-Central Missouri. What used to be a camp for city kids to learn about nature in the Summers, has been turned into a lovely park for all to share in. The Lodge is welcoming and the park is accessible and beautiful.
From the park's web site: More than 85 years ago, this area opened as Camp Zoe, a summer youth camp that provided outdoor experiences and life-long memories for thousands of young people.
Today, Echo Bluff State Park is a year-round outdoor destination that allows visitors to create new memories as they experience all the Ozarks have to offer. Visitors of all ages can fill their days with floating, hiking, swimming or fishing. While the park has a spectacular natural setting, the modern amenities enhance the experience and make it welcoming for everyone. An impressive, iconic lodge features guest rooms, indoor and outdoor casual dining and meeting rooms. Nine full-service cabins with 13 units are a great option for families and groups. Camping opportunities range from primitive to full-service campsites. The bluff-top shelter is perfect for special events, and an amphitheater for smaller events offers a dramatic natural backdrop. The park also offers hiking and mountain biking trails.
At Happy Trails Hiking, we encourage you to live the life you love and seek solace and adventure in America’s Parks and Public Lands. We strive to motivate and inspire people through travel as well as fitness and nutrition.

Hawn State Park Just Meandering July 28, 2018
Hawn State Park:
Hills of stately pine and oak trees, sandy-bottom streams and sandstone canyons and cliffs create one of the most significant and scenic landscapes in Missouri at Hawn State Park.
Located in western Ste. Genevieve County, the 4,956-acre park offers a special experience for anyone wanting to enjoy the splendor of nature.
Geology buffs come to the park to see the number of exposed rock types; hikers love the park for its amazing trails; and bird watchers flock to the park for its variety of birds.
This amazing landscape offers a scenic and peaceful setting where visitors can camp, hike, picnic and enjoy nature. The park’s campground, beneath a canopy of lofty pines, includes both basic and electric sites.
Picnickers can enjoy a quiet lunch at one of the many picnic tables that dot the sandy, pine-covered woodland floor. The best way to experience the park is on its trails, which range from a short walk to an overlook area to an almost 10-mile-long backpacking trail that is considered one of the best in the state.
