Killybegs | Things to do in Donegal | Killybegs Donegal | Slieve League | Slieve League Donegal
The best locations around Ireland / Northern Ireland and further afield. A travel blog/vlog of the hidden treasures that are on our doorstep.
Killybegs is a fantastic town in County Donegal in Ireland with a population of around 1,236 as of 2016.
It's the largest fishing port in the country located on the south coast of the county, north of Donegal Bay.
Situated along the coast of the Wild Atlantic Way down Ireland's west coast, it is a popular stop along this stunning route. Famous for its fish, Killybegs is a must see stop along the Wild Atlantic Way for any food lover.
Killybegs is a short drive from the beautiful Fintra beach, a popular family holiday spot and also situated close to Slieve League sea cliffs which are among the largest sea cliffs in Europe with their highest drop of 609m.
Fintra beach is considered one of the safest beaches in Ireland, it is registered blue flag and life guarded throughout the summer season and is popular with day trippers and families.
For any touring family, group or couple travelling the Wild Atlantic Way, Killybegs offers so much things to do and see in terms of spectacular scenery and beautiful food. We highly recommend you stop and breathe the fresh sea air and take in the sights!
The town is situated at the head of a scenic harbour and at the base of a vast mountainous tract. In the summer, there is a street festival celebrating the fish catches and incorporating the traditional Blessing of the Boats which we would really recommend.
When visiting the town, there are lots of great pubs, restaurants and hotels to try. If you fancy some amazing locally caught fish, you need to try the Killybegs Seafood Shack and you won't regret it!

Family Travel with Colleen Kelly - Ireland: Galway to Donegal
Colleen is back in Ireland, but this time she is taking a family friendly tour of the Wild Atlantic Way! Colleen flies into the gateway to the west of Ireland, Shannon Airport where she starts her trip highlighting family friendly attractions in the area. From there, Colleen joins a family on a kayaking expedition in Galway and learns about the local connection to the iconic Claddagh ring. Not far from Galway City, Colleen visits Cnoc Suain, a Gaelic cultural retreat, where she learns about the use of seaweed in the Irish culinary scene, plays the tin whistle with a leading expert and even dances to an Irish tune.
The vacation continues north in Donegal where families learn about the history of the area at Donegal Castle. Other families visited Glencolmcille Folk Village, where families can go back in time and learn about life in Ireland during past centuries. The children learn how rope was made, help spin wool, and even make traditional Bridget’s Crosses, a symbol of luck in Irish homes. Colleen enjoys a catch and cook experience in Killybegs, where she catches a monkfish that she then prepares with the chef at Kitty Kelly’s restaurant. The Wild Atlantic Way offers a unique experience for families who want to experience Ireland’s history, culture and adventure!

White Rocks Portrush - County Antrim Northern Ireland
Check out this 360 video of White Rocks Beach in Portrush which is along the Northern Ireland Coast. Portrush is a famous coastal town with some very nice beaches. White rocks beach will get very popular on hot days - as would any Portrush beach! Worth checking out - next drive up North!
There are different beaches scattered all around Ireland and Northern Ireland but when it comes to choosing the one which you are going to spend your day at, there are those which will stand on top of the others. White Rocks Beach in Portrush is one of those beaches which people would definitely choose and prefer over the others.
For the local Irish people, White Rocks beach is one of their favorites and that is why you will find them always recommending it for those coming to visit Northern Ireland in general. This beach has won the Blue Flag more than once and the last time was back in 2015.
Being located just off the Causeway Coastal Route, White Rocks Beach has a natural coastal location with limestone cliffs of the white rocks stretching from Curran Strand to Dunluce Castle ( The name of this beach came from those white rocks which are found there and these rocks have been carved through centuries into a labyrinth of caves and arches.
Once you come across to see this beautiful beach in Portrush, you will fall in love with the scenery and just be more excited about dipping in this clear blue water and sitting there just for a couple of hours of pure relaxation.
Among the different views related to White Rocks Beach, those shipwrecks which are scattered into the coastal waters carry different stories which make people more eager to know about them and add more to the importance of this beach in Northern Ireland.
This beach might be an attraction for those who want to spend some time by the sea and enjoy a dip in the water, but in addition to that, it has been considered an attraction for different water sports as well and from those sports' enthusiasts who tend to visit it regularly, surfers are on top of the list, but body boarders and surf kayakers also tend to come and visit the place. Horse riders also
visit this beach but there are some restrictions applied on them and on dogs during specific times of the year.
On the main coast and while heading to the White Rocks Beach, there are some pull-in areas and a large car park at Magheracross where one can enjoy the beautiful views of the headlands eastwards towards the Giant's Causeway ( and back to Donegal ( and Portrush.
Since this beautiful beach is located in Portrush, there are some attractions which should be mentioned. Portrush is where some of the scenes in Game of Thrones movie series where taken, such as the Portstewart Strand ( and there is also the Downhill Beach Castlerock which is also situated around the same area (
Whiterocks Beach is a good choice for all the different members of the family and all the different ages and there are different water sports that could suit them all and there are also different facilities offered at the place - there are lifeguards on duty from June 21st to September 7th from 11am to 7pm and they are also there in May and June at the weekends - so you will be rescued if anything went wrong.
According to those who have been to this beach before with their kids, we could say that kids usually enjoy this beach specifically for the things which they tend to do and which are believed to enrich their imagination, such as climbing the black rocks on the ocean's edge, running, swimming, playing with the beach sand and making castles and lots of other different general activities which any kid could enjoy out there.
When it comes to the adults, White Rocks Beach is always considered special for the water and the sand but it is also considered different for the things it could offer its people, such as the panoramic views of the causeway coast ( Donegal and the Islands of Scotland - yes, that could be all seen from the White Rocks Beach in Portrush.
This is one of our favorite beaches in Northern Ireland and one of those which we tend to enjoy the most and thus would always recommend for the tourists coming to Northern Ireland and thinking about spending a day by the beach in a peaceful and beautiful place - this is the great choice for both the kids as well as the adults, so go for it now if you have the chance.
Swimming, doing any of the water sports, relaxing by the beach, etc.; these are all different things one could do in White Rocks Beach, if you are looking for any of these then choose it!

Day Zero - Living in a Remote Cottage in Donegal (Ireland)
For the next two months, I will be living alone in a remote cottage in Ireland. I want to use this time to enjoy solitude, live simply and experience the surrounding wilderness through winter.
I will document this experience as much as possible but there is no cell service in the home so I will need to go out into the fields and hills to upload videos.
Please check out my Ko-Fi page if you would like to support me with a donation as a means of encouragement for making these videos -

Maggies Cottage - A Traditional Thatched Cottage near Glencolmcille Co Donegal
Maggies Cottage - A Traditional Thatched Cottage in Glencolmcille Co Donegal
Maggies Cottage is a traditional thatched Irish cottage set in a tranquil setting in the townland of Meenadiff 5 km east of Glencolmcille in Co Donegal. The cottage nestles into a hillside and overlooks a beautiful but sparsely populated valley. The road through the valley leads to the deserted famine village of Port a true hidden gem of Donegal tourism. A 10 minute walk over the hills behind the cottage brings you to Lough Geata a very secluded fishing lake.
The cottage is almost 150 years old and ownership has remained with the same family down the years. The thatching is done in a local style and is replaced every 3 / 4 years. Inside there is a cosy cottage with 3 comfortable bedrooms two of the bedrooms and a shower room are in a modern extension to the original cottage. The sitting/living room has a multifuel stove and an initial supply of turf is supplied free of charge. Old style ornaments, pictures and crockery add to the cosy feeling of the room.
The Gaeltacht village of Glencolmcille is a short drive - or a very pleasant 45 minute walk - from the cottage. This small village balancing on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean is known far and wide for its Irish Hospitality, and particularly for its love of traditional Irish music and culture.
