Hideaway Island Marine Reserve in Port Vila, Vanuatu
Hideaway Island Marine Reserve is located 15 minutes from Port Vila, the capital city of Vanuatu (then five minutes on the ferry).It has a reputation for being a relaxed paradise for divers and snorkelers alike. There are more than 15 dive sites all within 15 minutes of the shore. There is also plenty for the non-diver to do. A day on the island can be as busy or as quiet as you choose.
This small coral atoll is a custodian of one of Vanuatu’s only marine sanctuaries, ideal for a more relaxing holiday. It is a picture perfect tropical island with white sand, crystal clear tropical water and coral beaches surrounded by turquoise blue water. Spend your holiday in this great reserve where you can swim, snorkel, and scuba dive, eat, and just basically relax in the water, you can try sailing and beach volleyball, or use Hideaway Island as a convenient base for a myriad of other tours and activities such as game fishing, visiting the Cascade Waterfalls or playing a round of golf. If you prefer a more relaxing holiday, you can relax on the beach or poolside and enjoy the view of beautiful Mele Bay.
Hideaway Island Marine Reserve is an amazing Pacific paradise that will tempt you with its breathtaking beauty and offer something unique to see and enjoy. Hideaway Island also has the worlds’ only underwater Post Office located just metres from the beach. You can swim and snorkel to this Post Office and post a special “waterproof post card” to your friends and family! Since the waters around Hideaway Island have been declared a marine sanctuary, they are teeming with marine life and tropical fish. This Island is really a great spot for a holiday if you are okay with spending most your time away from the rush, however the close proximity to the town centre makes is easy to combine both options. A wonderful mid range holiday, made thoroughly enjoyable by the friendly and happy people at Hideaway Island.

Checking out the worlds only Underwater Post Office at Hideaway Island Marine Sanctuary, Vanuata. Also exploring the islands dive sites, including freediving the Bonzer Wreck (an old fishing boat at 25m) and amazing branching corals, plus lots of fish.
The island is close to Port Vila, and is a great place to spend the day, with snorkeling, diving and watersports available. We spent 3 days staying on the island checking out the dive sites

At Hideaway Island Resort & Marine Sanctuary, you can mail a postcard underwater! Buy it in the gift shop and mail your card. You can also go on a snorkel safari, glass bottom boat or scuba dive. It is a marine protected area.
They have rooms for families, dorms and space for your wedding. There is wreck diving, colorful color and you might see white tip reef sharks. It is close enough to town that you can easily go by bus but at night it feels like you are far away on your private island. I loved the view down to Hideaway Island from the Jungle Zipline!

SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go to Mele Island (also known by tourists as Hideaway Island) which is a Polynesian outlier and islet in Vanuatu.
The island is owned by the local Mele villagers, but is leased to the owners of Hideaway Island Resort. The island is accessed by a boat service from nearby Mele Beach and offers accommodation and watersports to visitors.
Vanuatu is a South Pacific Ocean nation made up of roughly 80 islands that stretch 1,300 kilometers. The islands offer scuba diving at coral reefs, underwater caverns and wrecks such as the WWII-era troopship SS President Coolidge. Harborside Port Vila, the nation’s capital and economic center, is on the island of Efate. The city is home to the Vanuatu National Museum, which explores the nation’s Melanesian culture.

Incredible Scuba Diving | Hideaway Island | Vanuatu
Scuba diving off Hideaway Island near Port Vila, Vanuatu November 2017. My brothers and I had just completed the PADI Open Water Course over the previous few days. This is some of the footage from the subsequent dives.
Unfortunately my camera washes out most of the extraordinary colour of the reef and tropical fish, but a decent view of a large sea snake and a close encounter with a clown fish (it body-slams the lens of my mask off to the right of the camera) nonetheless.
Big current for one of the dives, hence all hanging off the mooring line at the end. Every other dive on the trip was in perfect conditions. Avg water temp: 27 degrees Celsius.
Amazing trip, all taken care of by Hideaway Resort. Highly recommended for an island getaway!
