Constantia - High Constantia - Hidden Gems
The bubbles of High Constantia will wisp you off into the clouds and buzz you away into a world of bees, biscuits and fragrance.
Wineokes visited this place and had quite a jol (“fun time” for those international folk). We met with David van Niekerk who has a love for traveling the world and making wine. We called David on a Sunday afternoon and asked if we could come for a private tasting and to stock up with their lovely MCC. He was returning from vacation in Hermanus but happily received us and spent over an hour with us, sipping on their bubbly and telling us about his travels.
This place is the Boutique of boutique cozy places to visit if you are in Constantia (or not). Upon entering, you get to walk through their winery and cellar before sitting on their terrace that over looks a lovely pond and to your surprise, you will end up sipping wine with a view of a nunnery!
Their bubbly is so dam good!!! My mates who were with me bought a few bottles, I bought a few bottles and plan to come back regularly to stock up on this lovely hidden gem. Please do not miss out on their MCC that tastes like raw honey, has a gentle fizz with long lastings flavours of biscuits, citrus, and berries and is the perfect gift for a bubbly lover.
High Constantia produces wine marrying the historic past with a vibrant fresh new life by crafting the subtle flavours brought forth by the blending of earth and climate of the Constantia Valley.
Take our word for it if you are unable to visit this lovely boutique winery and purchase a few bottles here:
Episode 4: Groot Constantia Wine Estate
The oldest wine producing estate in South Africa, creating award winning wines for 330 years. The views and grounds were stunning. This is a nice place to sit in the sun and soak in the scenery (though the tasting itself is indoors).
Got to love that Cape Dutch or Cape Baroque architecture, and of course Anton Anreiths works in wine cellars gables. It is interesting to note that the Cape Barogue style has roots in medieval Netherlands, Germany, France and Indonesia.
The big benefit of visiting this wine farm is that it is well within the City limits, hence no long travel times.

South Africa wine industry’s image takes a bashing due to poor pricing
South African wines are high-quality, well-priced products. But they have an image problem overseas -- to the detriment of the local industry.
