Teds Tiny Trains - Scamp 21 does a lap at NSME
Occasionally you may have to put up with glimpses of my other hobbies and projects, so to start the ball rolling we have my ride on 7.25 gauge engine :-)
The engine is called 'Scamp' and it was designed to be a small, reasonably affordable ride on engine that can be dismantled and taken on tour to various engineering club railway lines around the country. It also serves as a workhorse and is equally at home on a miniature garden railway hauling logs, compost etc (I so wish I had room for all of that!).
The kit comes as a set of laser cut metal parts with a set of instructions and a shopping list. The parts such as wheels, engine etc are sourced from miniature railway suppliers, eBay, Amazon etc whilst raw material for the axles etc were sourced from engineering suppliers.
The main frame bolts together whilst the bodywork is riveted together. It is powered by a 97cc four stroke engine, underneath which is hung a 36v 800w motor. This motor is connected to a second of the same spec, the second motor driving a layshaft via a chain, the layshaft then driving front and rear axles via chains and sprockets.
A variable resistor between the two motor connections allows the speed to be influenced for smoother pullaways whilst another switch reverses polarity of one motor and achieves a direction change.
Its fairly stable despite looking anything but and this one whilst geared for a bit of speed is comfortable hauling 4 adults and 3 bogie coaches as well as the driver.
Half an Hour at (126) - High Legh Garden Centre Railway 16.8.2015 - Knutsford Lymm
End of the afternoon was at an unfortunately very quiet High Legh Garden Centre Railway near Knutsford. This is one that will have to be visited again. Working at the time were Jerry, Franklin and a miniature Manchester Metrolink tram.
Littledale Light Railway, Lancashire
A rare opportunity to visit the private Littledale Light Railway in Lancashire, when it opened to the public for an afternoon in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
