Hello and welcome for another video tour of a great New York neighborhood by New York Habitat ( ). Today's video will be the second video tour dedicated to the Meatpacking District, a small neighborhood in Manhattan, New York, one of New York's most fashionable neighborhoods! You can watch Part 1 of our Video Tour here:
Feel free to watch other great video tours of New York neighborhoods ( ), such as ChinaTown ( or Financial District (
The Meatpacking District is bordered by west 14th street to the north, Gansevoort Street to the south, the Hudson River to the west and Hudson Street to the east. It is located between two other famous neighborhoods, Chelsea to the North and the West Village to the south.
In our first episode, we shared the history of the Meatpacking District, including its transformation in the 90s with the arrival of high end retailers. In this edition we will look at some other famous places as well as the shopping and dining options in the area.
Shopping Scene
On 14th Street you will find some of the most well-known international designers' stores including Diane von Furstenberg, Carlos Miele, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. But there are also some retailers a bit outside the mainstream that you won't want to miss.
Vitra (29 9th Avenue)
If you are interested in seeing the modern classics as well as the new and innovative, check out the furniture store, Vitra.
If you are in the Meatpacking during the day, and you're exhausted from shopping, take a break and look inside some of the more popular art galleries in the district:
Wooster Projects (418 W. 15th St)
You'll find Wooster Projects, an unassuming gallery, on West 15th St. It a Museum Mile-quality collection, that intermittently displays works by such famed artists as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and David Hockney, among others.
Ground Zero Museum Workshop (420 West 14th Street)
Head over to Ground Zero Museum Workshop, known as the Biggest LITTLE Museum in New York. Rare photos and artifacts collected during the recovery period at Ground Zero can be seen here.
Apartments in the West Village -- Meat Packing District Area

Another great choice is this fully furnished studio ( also located just north of the Meatpacking District. This apartment provides for many different sleeping arrangements with a queen sized bed, double bed and a double sofa bed. You'll also want to go out in the Meatpacking to experience all that it has to offer. You're sure to have a good time in this high style neighborhood.
For a few great places to eat, check out these Meatpacking hotspots: Fig and Olive at 420 West 13th Street, Pastis at 9 9th Ave, Budda Bar at 25 Little West 12th Street, Macelleria at 48 Gansevoort Street.
And if you're looking for some bars and lounges, here are a few to get you started:

Walking up 6th Avenue, down 5th, we will take a look at Madison, Park Avenue – a grand boulevard stroll with many urban highlights, like ice skating at Rockefeller Center, and the tall, huge office buildings of that complex. We're starting at Bryant Park and walking north, then south, then north again through the big Avenues of Manhattan.

Find someplace to eat, have a walk through Grand Central and admire the modern architecture of Midtown, and be amazed by some huge public artworks.
Midtown has a tremendous density of places, people, attractions and landmarks which await your discovery and the best way to experience it of course is on foot. You'll never run out of interesting sites. And while you're strolling along, enamored by the famous avenues, don't just walk past the side streets. They have got some fascinating things to check out such as West 46th Street, packed with restaurants, bars and stores. You'll get souvenirs cheaper than at Times Square.
Fifth Avenue's commercial heartland is one of the world's great urban vistas, always packed with pedestrians and lined with exclusive department stores and boutiques, too numerous to fully mention.
Continuing back down Fifth we turn on 42nd Street, to reach Grand Central Terminal, one of the great railway stations of the world and perhaps New York's most famous interior space.
We are plunging into a very worthwhile twenty blocks which can be nicely enjoyed along Madison Avenue with serious window-shopping, people watching and looking up at the buildings peaks. The shops and sights along the way will keep you thoroughly entertained.
You've heard about the New York minute? It's like a split second in which a lot of things get done. New York is quick. In fact, when you're walking, be sure not to take up the entire sidewalk because you're going to be blocking some speeding New Yorker coming up behind you.
We reach the Upper Eastside, with that rarefied atmosphere of the blueblood territory. The multimillion mansions and the nice side streets. Be sure to have a look as you walk along Madison and the other avenues down the side streets and see where the superrich live.
Lexington is one of the most interesting of New York avenues. It still retains a lot of its earlier character and quality, not quite so yuppiefied and gentrified as the other avenues that we been walking on, all of what you been lovely, but Lexington is especially nitty-gritty and a fine place to end our walking tour of New York's grand avenues.

The City of New York, most often called New York City, is the most populous city in the United States, in a metropolitan area that ranks among the world's most-populous urban areas. It is a leading global city, exerting a powerful influence over worldwide commerce, finance, culture, and entertainment. The city is also an important center for international affairs, hosting the United Nations headquarters. Located on the Atlantic coast of the Northeastern United States, the city consists of five distinct boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. It is the most densely populated major city in the United States, with an estimated 8,274,527 people occupying just less than 305 square miles (790 km2). The New York metropolitan area's population is also the nation's highest, estimated at 19,750,000 people over 6,720 square miles (17,400 km2) in three states. New York is largely unique among American cities for its high use of mass transit, and the overall density and diversity of its population. In 2005, nearly 170 languages were spoken in the city and 36% of its population was born outside the United States. The city is sometimes referred to as The City That Never Sleeps due to its extensive 24-hour subway system and constant bustling of traffic and people, while other nicknames include Gotham and the Big Apple. Founded as a commercial trading post by the Dutch in 1624, it served as the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790, and has been the nation's largest city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Wall Street, in Lower Manhattan, has been a dominant global financial center since World War II and is home to the New York Stock Exchange. Today, the city has many renowned landmarks and neighborhoods that are world famous. The city has been home to several of the tallest buildings in the world, including the Empire State Building and the twin towers of the former World Trade Center

New York City 13, NY, USA Collage Video - youtube.com/tanvideo11
Powered by - New York City is the most populous city in the United States, with an estimated record high of 8,336,697 residents as of 2012, incorporating more immigration into the city than outmigration since the 2010 United States Census.More people live in New York City than in the next two most populous U.S. cities (Los Angeles and Chicago) combined.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg immediately challenged the Census Bureau's 2010 population count of 8,175,133 as representing an undercount upon release. This amounts to about 40% of the state of New York's population and a similar percentage of the metropolitan regional population. In 2006, demographers estimated that New York's population will reach between 9.2 and 9.5 million by 2030. The city's population in 2010 was 44% white (33.3% non-Hispanic white), 25.5% black (23% non-Hispanic black), 0.7% Native American and 12.7% Asian.
Hispanics of any race represented 28.6% of the population, while Asians constituted the fastest-growing segment of the city's population between 2000 and 2010; the non-Hispanic white population declined 3 percent, the smallest recorded decline in decades; and for the first time since the Civil War, the number of blacks declined over a decade. In 2010, the city had a population density of 27,532 people per square mile (10,630/km²), rendering it the most densely populated of all municipalities housing over 100,000 residents in the United States; however, several small cities (of less than 100,000) in adjacent Hudson County, New Jersey are more dense overall, as per the 2000 Census.
Geographically co-extensive with New York County, the borough of Manhattan's population density of 66,940 people per square mile (25,846/km²) makes it the highest of any county in the United States and higher than the density of any individual American city.

The Bronx is the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City. It is also known as Bronx County, the last of the 62 counties of New York State to be incorporated. Located north of Manhattan and Queens, and south of Westchester County, the Bronx is the only borough that is located primarily on the mainland (a very small portion of Manhattan is located on the mainland named Marble Hill). The Bronx's population is 1,400,761 according to the 2010 United States Census.[1] The borough has a land area of 42 square miles (109 km2), making it the fourth most populated of the five boroughs, the fourth-largest in land area, and the third-highest in density of population.[2][3]

The Bronx is divided by the Bronx River into a hillier section in the west, closer to Manhattan, and the flatter East Bronx, closer to Long Island. The West Bronx was annexed to New York City (then largely confined to Manhattan) in 1874, and the areas east of the Bronx River in 1895.[5] The Bronx first assumed a distinct legal identity when it became a borough of Greater New York in 1898. Bronx County, with the same boundaries as the borough, was separated from New York County (afterwards coextensive with the Borough of Manhattan) as of January 1, 1914.[6] Although the Bronx is the third-most-densely-populated county in the U.S.,[2] about a quarter of its area is open space,[7] including Woodlawn Cemetery, Van Cortlandt Park, Pelham Bay Park, the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo in the borough's north and center, on land deliberately reserved in the late 19th century as urban development progressed northwards and eastwards from Manhattan with the building of roads, bridges and railways.
The Bronx River was named for Jonas Bronck, an early settler from Småland in Sweden whose land bordered the river on the east. The borough of the Bronx was named for the river that was Bronck's River. The indigenous Lenape (Delaware) American Indians were progressively displaced after 1643 by settlers from the Netherlands and Great Britain. The Bronx received many Irish, German, Jewish and Italian immigrants as its once-rural population exploded between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. They were succeeded after 1945 by African Americans and Hispanic Americans from the Caribbean basin — especially Puerto Rico[8] and the Dominican Republic, but also from Jamaica. In recent years, this cultural mix has made the Bronx a wellspring of both Latin music and hip hop.
The Bronx contains one of the five poorest Congressional Districts in the U.S., (the 16th), but its wide variety of neighborhoods also includes the affluent Riverdale and Country Club.[9][10] The Bronx, particularly the South Bronx, saw a sharp decline in population, livable housing, and the quality of life in the late 1960s and the 1970s, culminating in a wave of arson, but has shown some signs of revival in recent years
