Highfield house
Highfield House can be regarded as the 'birthplace' of European settlement in Tasmania's north-west. Built from 1832-35 as a residence for Edward Curr, chief agent of the Van Diemen's Land Company, the house represents an important part of Tasmanian historic heritage. The history of the north-west region of Tasmania is inextricably bound up with the story of the Van Diemen's Land Company; indeed, there are very few places in the region that have been unmarked by its presence.

In 1825 the Van Diemen's Land Company was granted land in north-western Van Diemen's Land, including the Stanley area. Employees of the company from England settled in the area in October 1826.[3]
The site was named after Lord Stanley, the British Secretary of State for War and the Colonies in the 1830s and 1840s, who later had three terms of office as British Prime Minister.
A port opened in 1827 and the first school opened in 1841. Stanley officially became a town in 1842 and by 1843 more than 8,000 acres had been sold or leased to almost 70 people. [4]
The Post Office opened on 1 July 1845 and was known as Circular Head post office until 1882. [5] In 1880 the first coach service between Stanley and Burnie was established.

Highfield House
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Highfield House and are so glad we decided to stop by.
‘Highfield may be made from bricks and mortar, but it means much more than that. Highfoeld represents both the capacity of human endeavour towards both enterprise and disaster.
Curiously the house was built at a time when the Company was on the verge of ruin.
On this most spectacular site at the edge of the world, this is the story of either enterprise or folly. Success or tragedy. You decide!’

490 Back Road Wilmot - Highfield House - B&H Real Estate
Highfield House- set in the beautiful countryside of Wilmot with just stunning views of Mount Roland.
Available today is a 230 acre parcel of land with one of the areas original homesteads. Suitable for grazing land this property has several natural springs, multiple paddocks, new stockyards, and is fully fenced.
The house does need some attention, but could be brought back to its Federation era glory. As is typical of it's age it comes with beautiful baltic pine ceilings, 3 large bedrooms, formal dining area and casual living room with a near new wood heater. There is also a separate structure with several rooms (this building does need a lot of fixing up).
If you are a local looking at needing more grazing land or someone wanting to start up a farm then this is the package you could be looking for.
