Highfields Pioneer Village is just 15 minutes drive north of Toowoomba, 3 km off the New England Highway. The Village covers an area of 20 acres of picturesque grounds with pleasant surroundings and picnic facilities and comprises over 40 historic buildings open to the public 10:00am to 4:00pm daily.

Over the Easter break Tracey and I took the girls to check out a cool Pioneer Village, complete with damper, sheep shearing, exploring how we lived decades ago, a fire truck experience and some awesome animals :D

Horse Whims
A Horse whim or mill, also known in Australia as Horse Gears, uses a horse as the power source. Any milling process can be powered in this way, but the most frequent use of animal power in horse mills was for grinding grain and pumping water. They were also used to ‘drive’ Milk Separators, Rock Crushers, pumpkin cutters, boring plants and mining operations. At the Highfields Pioneer Village we show how Horse Whims were used to grind grain such as corn for animal feed. Commentary by Ray Ashford OAM. New police station for Highfields
Great news for our Highfields residents!
Today we welcomed the announcement of a new Police station for one of our fastest growing communities.
We're proud to be working with all levels of Government to get the best outcome for our residents.
Lister in the Dark
Lister in the Dark, a chance capture in the night of a CS 6/1 Lister Diesel chugging away happily in its little shed. This engine provides all the power for the lights at Highfields Pioneer Village and Museum at Highfields outside Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. This footage was taken on the last day of March at around 6.30 pm in the middle of the annual Easter Vintage Festival. Go you good thing! Yeeeaah ......
