This is a vast region of massive glaciers, vibrant lakes, and home to the magnificent Andes mountain range. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have experienced some of the most beautiful landscapes our world has to offer and can only hope that they are protected from the effects of climate change. Walking on Perito Moreno Glacier was a privilege. Many of the other beautiful glaciers in Patagonia are melting at an alarming rate, which are now considered unsafe to walk on. It was an unforgettable and eye-opening experience. I don't know if any other place in the world will make us at a loss for words so frequently like this region did. It is truly in its own league of beauty and was an experience we will never forget. We travelled here in April (fall season) which awarded us with some of the most incredible fall colours we have ever seen. Patagonia was a bucket-list item of ours that exceeded our expectations and ended up being an adventure of a lifetime.

This is a great one day tour, where you can visit some amazing archaeological site such as: Pisac, Ollanataytambo, Chinchero and the Pisac Market enjoying all the magnificent views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, snow-capped mountains and Chinchero´s plateau.
The Sacred Valley of the Incas was undoubtedly a key area of settlement to the Incas. Its agreeable climate and fertile plains make a rare and fruitful combination for the high Andes. It was also the route to the jungle and therefore an area with access to the fruits and plants of the tropical lowlands. The Sacred Valley served as a buffer zone, protecting Cusco from incursions of the Antis, the fierce jungle tribes who from time to time raided the highlands.

We spotted seals, went to Huacachina desert for sandboarding and buggy ride, saw lamas, vicunhas and alpacas and finally hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. 잉카가 멸망한 지 500년 도심을 벗어난 지역은 어떻게 변했는지 보고 싶었다. 쿠스코에서 약 2시간 거리에 있는 이 산골 마을은 잉카체험 마을이다. 대문에 나뭇가지를 거는 것은 귀한 손님에 대한 환영의 표시란다 .좀 당황스럽기까지 한 환영을 받고 사람 좋아 보이는 마을 대표의 긴 인사를 들었다. 이들은 스페인 말이 아닌 케추아어라는 고유 언어를 쓰고 있었다. 해발 3,600미터에 위치한 이 마을은 탁 트인 전망도 좋지만 모자이크 같은 밭들이 특히 인상적이다. ‘끼누아’라는 이 곡식은 단백질과 지방 등 영양가가 풍부해 최근 다시 주목받는 작물이다. 빵과 죽 등 다양하게 요리해 먹는단다. 밀은 스페인 사람들에 의해 들어온 곡식이다. 하지만 농사짓는 방식은 잉카식. 소나 말을 이용해 농사짓고, 기계 도움 없이 알곡을 고른다. 그 옛날과 많이 바뀌지 않았다. 전통음식 체험도 있다. 돌을 뜨겁게 달궈 그 열로 익히는 ‘빠차망까’라는 음식이다. 여러 종류의 감자와 고구마, 고기 등 이곳 사람들이 농사짓고 기른 것들이다. 예전에도 만드는 과정이 번거로워서 마을의 행사나 큰일을 치를 때만 먹었던 귀한 음식이란다. 흙으로 다 덮고 난 다음 꽃을 꽂는다. 멋을 아는 사람들이다. 음식이 익는 동안 마을 박물관 구경을 했다. 곡식의 종류와 시기별 농사짓는 과정이 전시되어있다. 전통 농기구도 볼 수 있었다. 지금도 여전히 이용되고 있단다. 땅속의 음식이 익는 데는 한 시간 정도 기다려야 한다. 윗부분은 쪄지고 아래 부분은 구워진다. 바깥 공기가 닿지 않아 깊은 맛을 낸다. 부엌에선 아낙들이 바쁘다. 끼누아 죽을 만들고 고기를 나눈다. 1박 2일에 우리 돈 10만원 정도하는 잉카체험은 유럽 사람들이 좋아하고 특히 프랑스 사람들이 많이 찾는단다. “향이 그대로 살아있어요. 그리고 육즙이 많아요. 땅속에서 구워졌기 때문인 것 같아요. 정말 맛있네요.” 디저트는 야생 허브차. 근사한 식사에 분위기 있는 차 한 잔이다. 떠나는 손님을 위한 환송에도 멋이 있다. 춤으로 아쉬움을 달랜다.

Andean Summer Adventures in the Cordillera Blanca
In September 2011 my partner and I hiked along the Santa Cruz Valley in the Cordillera Blanca, Peru. The multiple day hike took in stunning scenery including turquoise lakes, mountains and glaciers. The hike culminated in an our very first alpine ascent to Mt. Pisco (elevation 5752m). Though hard work and challenging, the mountain hike was an experience we will never forget. The staff of our tour agency 'Skyline Adventures' (based in Huaraz) were great and made the tour every thing it could be.
For anyone thinking of touring this region, don't hesitate any longer. Awesome. Just make sure you're fit to fully appreciate it as the hike as well as the mountain ascent are all at an altitude 3000m above sea level. The rocky moraine preceding the mountain ascent can make or break you if you are not physically and mentally prepared.

Ride Day 53: The Sacred Valley Tour by Motorbike from Cusco with Peru Moto Tours
Full Post: After spending a full day and night touring Machu Picchu, Peru I was fortunate to tour the Sacred Valley with Peru Moto Tours!
I started the tour at 8 am and was back in Cusco by 5 pm. Christopher and I went high up into the Andes and swept along single tracks in and out of villages through the Sacred Valley.
The Sacred Valley comprises of lots of different tourist attractions including the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Inca ruin, and andenes at Pisac and Maras, Peru.
Salinas de Maras have hundreds of evaporating salt ponds and are crazy beautiful from above. You start from up top and down a canyon that descends into the Rio Vilcanota and the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
All in all a fascinating day!
Peru Moto Tours
I hired a personal tour guide, Christopher from Peru Moto Tours, to take me to Sacred Valley. I had my own bike, so it was a little bit of a custom tour. All I can say is that my guide Christopher was incredible.
I visited places I had not even heard about. We did about 50% off the road and on the road, the off-road wasn't too difficult and was fun. All I can say is if you visit Cusco, go straight to this business and organize a tour; they also have a bunch of adventure bikes in store for hire as part of a range of tours on offer.
The staff are excellent too and speak good English. Thank you, Christopher, for a wonderful experience!

Inka`s House Restaurant
Inka`s House Restaurant has a great buffet lunch and outdoor experience with sensational food and service. Stopped off here for lunch after riding my moto through the region. Parking out front (not secure) and decent WiFi at the property.
Was $15 all you can eat and the buffet was huge. You can select salads, lamb, poultry dishes with lots of variety.
