Highland Backpacking Trail | Algonquin Park
Another year, another camping trip. This year, Mike and I take our friends Jen & Peter along with us to Highland Backpacking Trail located in Algonquin Park. It was one of the most difficult backpacking trips we've ever done. Enjoy! ☺

Highland Backpacking Trail - Algonquin Park
On June 3rd, I drove up to Algonquin Provincial Park and did my first solo backpacking trip. This is day 1 hiking from the trailhead to Faya Lake. The trail starts with a fairly steep climb with lots of rocks and roots to trip over and hungry mosquitoes, gnats and deer flies. Faya Lake is an incredible campsite and it's actually the only campsite on the lake so you are totally secluded from any other hikers, not to mention it's beautiful. I highly recommend camping at Faya Lake but just don't forget bug spray! The stars at night were the highlight of my night there.

Highland Backpacking Trail Day 2 - Algonquin Park
I left Faya lake and made my way to another incredible campsite on Provoking Lake. Somewhere between Faya Lake campsite and the first lookout, I stumbled upon a female moose about 25 feet away. I didn't even notice it until she ran away because I guess I was getting too close. That was a long day of hiking!

Highlands Backpacking Trail - Algonquin Park, Canada
Come with me as I solo hike the 35 km Highlands Backpacking Trail in Algonquin Park. This time lapse covers the entire trail which I completed on October 9th (12.8 kms) and 10th (22.1 kms), 2019. Check out at 1:05 for an awesome sequence of the morning mist clearing off of Head Lake.

6 Day Solo Hike In Algonquin Park Canada - Western Uplands Trail
75KM around the Algonquin Western Uplands in November was tough goings alone but supremely rewarding. I recommend hiking poles on this one since there are a lot of ups and downs and swampy water crossings.
The Western Uplands trail is the longest in Algonquin park and is broken out into 3 loops offering a variety of hiking options from 32 - 88 kilometres long. A quick in-out can be done as short as 7.8km but summer time is busy time so it is recommended to make a campsite reservation.
Special note! I never knew that cans are banned in the park so if you're making bear bread make sure you bring your beer in a plastic reusable bottle.

Algonquin Park is one of Canada's great treasures. It's nestled in the middle of Ontario and is home to a wide range of wildlife, from the smallest of mammals like field mice, all the way up to the majestic Moose, as well as everything in between like rabbits, squirrels and their predators like foxes, coyotes and wolves.
Join me as I take on some backwoods camping in this majestic park.

Algonquin Park - Highland Backpacking Trail - Spring 2012 - Part 1
My brother and three other friends and I had an awesome trip! Snow at first, chilly nights-but not too cold. Wet another day, and the last day was nice and sunny.I think the coldest it went down was around -10*c The first 4 klm were a bit tough. It was my brothers idea to stay at Faya Lake for the first night. I had no complaints, what a beautiful cute spot! Not much shade for July-Aug. The last photo i had, was the only one i had to wrap up the day with. We had a fire but no pics, so i used long exposure with no tri-pod to get the moon and stars. Lol - its the best i could do.
Backcountry 2010 - Algonquin: Highland Backpacking Trail
720P is the best quality to avoid motion blur. Short video of our trek through the Highland Backpacking Trail in Algonquin Provincial Park in the early spring of last year. The video is short as we didn't film much but it provides a brief overview of the trail and area. Overall the Highland Backpacking Trail is an excellent trail that users can hike in 19km or 35km loops. Spring or fall are some of the best times to explore the trail.
