Old Photographs Inverness Scotland
Old photographs of Inverness, Scotland. Inverness on the River Ness, is a city in the Scottish Highlands. It is regarded as the capital of the Highlands of Scotland. Medieval Inverness suffered regular raids from the Western Isles, particularly by the MacDonald Lords of the Isles in the fifteenth century. In 1562, Mary, Queen of Scots, was denied admittance into Inverness Castle, but the Clan Munro and Clan Fraser took the castle for her. Inverness played a role in the first Jacobite rising in 1689. In early May, it was besieged by a contingent of Jacobites led by MacDonnell of Keppoch

Scotland road trip 2017 - Part 2, A short visit to Castle Fraser
As every years holiday, we went to Scotland in the Jeep and whichever way we go, it always ends with around 2500 miles on the clock.
This is a multi-part series in no particular order, i may do one short clip which outlines the route of this year (2017).
It's essentially a random mix of roads, ferries, villages, castles, distilleries, lighthouses and other stuff.
Just came back and there is so much footage to sort, so i can't tell right now how many clips we will end up with.
In this episode we visit Caste Fraser, Address is Sauchen, Inverurie AB51 7LD.
This is a collection of short clips taken in and around the Castle, it was rather busy, therefore it was difficult to get useful footage without showing other visitors on video.
The Castle is owned by the National Trust and unless most of the private ones, filming and photography was allowed.

Ruthven Barracks, Scotland - the Jacobites' last stand after Culloden, 1746
Ruthven Barracks was built 1719-1721 following the 1715 uprising/rebellion in Scotland. The British government imposed their will upon the Highlands of Scotland with a series of fortified barracks. Ruthven is the best preserved of these, built on the mound of. Medieval castle, commanding the road through the high mountains. The Barracks was seized by Jacobite forces following Bonnie Prince Charlie's landing in August 1745. Following the disastrous Battle of Culloden on 16 April 1746, the remnants of Bonnie Prince Charlie's army rallied at the barracks. Still a considerable force of 3000 soldiers, they were sent home by the Prince because he realised his cause was lost. The Jacobites set fire to the barracks as they departed on 17 April 1746 and it has been a roofless ruin since then.
Ruthven Barracks is now in the care of Heritage Scotland and is free to visit. Please support Heritage Scotland in caring for the history and heritage of Scotland.
The story of the Battle of Culloden and the 1745 uprising/rebellion is woven in to the story of Outlander. Jamie Fraser is incarcerated in Ardsmuir barracks, a place strikingly like Ruthven. This amazing location has been used in a number of films and TV productions including Chasing the Deer and Monarch of the Glen.

Culloden Battlefield Development APPROVED
Culloden Battlefield Development APPROVED
Today, 14 March 2018, a housing development was approved on the Culloden Battlefield in the Scottish Highlands.
Continue the debate with me here:
Highland council members approved plans for the design and layout of 16 homes on the historic Culloden Battlefield, where Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite forces fought their last battle, defeated by the British Hanoverian Army. Planning permission for properties at Viewhill, near Inverness, had been granted by a Scottish government-appointed planning official in 2014. Campaigners argue that the area forms part of the battlefield. Highland councillors had earlier deferred a decision on Aberdeenshire-based Kirkwood Homes' project to give the developer time to come back with designs more sensitive to the surrounding area.
