To kick off the day, we got to listen to drumming and bagpipes.
Pipe and drum groups came from all over Atlantic Canada and the United States to compete.
I'm most looking forward to the sporting events on the athletic field such as the caber toss.
The caber toss is one of the most impressive events. Contestants must toss and flip a log that is 20 feet in length and weighs up to 120 pounds.
We also got to watch Highland dancing competitions.
We then attended the weight for height event, where athletes toss a weight over a pole vault bar. The bar kept getting raised increasing the level of difficulty.
They have a lot of really cool workshops taking place over the weekend. A few of the different things you can do are learn how to speak Gaelic, learn how to play the bagpipes and also try to some whisky.
There were lots of tents around the grounds where people could buy kilts, family crests, and all sorts of souvenirs.
Then there was the food! There were all kinds of traditional Scottish dishes like haggis, as well as Canadian dishes like poutine and buffalo burgers.
The ancient hammer toss was another impressive event. Contestants had to throw a metal ball fastened to a wooden handle as far as they could.
We really enjoyed the New Brunswick Highland Games. The event had a big turn out and it was nice seeing people of all ages having a good time.
And now, let's end things off with some more drumming and bagpipes:

ANTIGONISH STREET FAIR 2017
It was a summer day in 2017,
when a small town in northern Nova Scotia,
joined in the celebration of the country ís
150th birthday... in kind of a big way.
What began as an idea over a cup of coffee,
turned into an historical event not seen
in the life of this quiet little town.
Organizers of the Antigonish annual
Street Fair wanted to make a big statement
to show their community pride.
On July 6th they accomplished just that,
by painting directly on the street,
the largest Canada 150 banner in the country.
Considered to be one of the most spirited communities
in Canada, Antigonish is truly the
Highland Heart of the Nova Scotia.
