New murals for the Highway 61 Blues Museum!
In September 2008 a Benefit was organized by 6 Dutch Blues fans in Holland, Europe, for the Highway 61 Blues Project in Leland MS. The donation of the money was used to paint new murals on the Highway 61 Blues Museum. Christin is doing a wonderful job in the hot Delta sun!

Mississippi Blues Highway - US Hwy 61 Drive - Vicksburg to Rolling Fork
Part 1 of 5 of the Highway 61 series. Vicksburg to Rolling Fork, Mississippi.
I started just north of Vicksburg as the sun began to rise heading toward Memphis. The highway is beautiful as the land it runs through is so unique and rich with history. Abandoned houses, large tracts of farmland, dirt roads, plantations.. You really see a little of everything while driving.
There are times where it gets foggy toward the middle and end of the trip and I went back and forth on including them. In the end I kept them because I feel it adds to the mystery and feel of the land. If you've ever driven this road, you would understand.
I hope you enjoy this series. I had a lot of fun putting it together!

James Son Thomas In Concert - Delta Blues
Here's the excellent Mississippi Delta Bluesman James Son Thomas - In Concert- I think in Sweden probably in the 1970's
James Son Thomas (October 14, 1926 -- June 26, 1993) was an American Delta blues musician, gravedigger and sculptor from Leland, Mississippi.
Born in Eden, Mississippi, United States,[1][2] Thomas was known as a folk artist for his sculptures made from un-fired clay which he dug out of the banks of the Yazoo River. His most famous sculpted images were skulls (often featuring actual human teeth) which mirrored his job as a gravedigger and his often stated philosophy that we all end up in the clay. In 1985, Thomas had his work featured in the prestigious Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. where he was introduced to Mrs. Nancy Reagan then First Lady.[4] Thomas' skulls can also be found on display in several blues museums throughout Mississippi including the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale and the Highway 61 Blues Museum in Leland. Thomas played at numerous blues festivals and private parties throughout the area including the Mississippi Delta Blues and Heritage Festival in Greenville.
His later performances saw him accompanied by Swiss harmonica player Walter Liniger. Thomas was recorded by several small record labels and is probably best known for his album Gateway to the Delta which was recorded by Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi, although he remains an obscure figure outside of dedicated blues communities.[citation needed]
In the 1970s, he appeared in the following films: Delta Blues Singer: James Sonny Ford Thomas, Give My Poor Heart Ease: Mississippi Delta Bluesmen, and Mississippi Delta Blues
He died in 1993 in Greenville, Mississippi, from a combination of emphysema and a stroke.
Thomas is buried in Leland and memorialized by a headstone placed in 1996 by the Mt. Zion Memorial Fund and paid for by John Fogerty. His epitaph consists of lyrics from one of his songs. His son, Pat Thomas, continues to play and perform his father's songs.
Highway 61
I now have a new channel with many more videos including Blues songs here:
U. S. Highway 61 is known as the blues highway, and many Blues artists have recorded songs about it. Starting in New Orleans just north of the Gulf of Mexico it runs through Memphis and up to the Canadian border. The highway has had a long emotional association with the notions of sadness and moving on…

Blues trail McComb, Mississippi
This nice lady named Mary, who over see's the train museum in McComb Mississippi, was kind enough to share her memories of what she could recall about the early blues scene around town and a little bit about bo diddley. It was interesting to listen to her story about the blues men from back in the day. I happened to be on a trip with my brother visiting relatives in the area, so I spent the day looking for Bo's childhood home and was able to find it with help from the chamber of commerce and a few phone calls to track it down. There really isn't a blues trail, just a couple of makers to honor a home town boy who made it big in music.
Mississippi Delta Region by Erik Hastings
Erik the Travel Guy tour Tunica, Clarksdale, and Leland. Known as the South's South, Mississippi's Delta is where you'll find cotton fields and blues clubs sharing the spotlight with world-class golf courses and casino resorts. The Blues were born here, the Mighty Mississippi flows here, and what was once considered a sleepy little town is now called the casino capital of the South. If gambling, sightseeing, recreation, music and food are your game, visit the Delta.

Mississippi Delta Wedding
Michael & Shelby - Highlight | Leland, MS
The Mississippi Delta is the quintessential expression of true southern beauty. Cotton fields and blue skies fill the landscape for miles and miles. Massive giant trees provide the stunning leafy canopy of shade and sporadic beams of warm sunlight. The Delta is where Michael and Shelby once lived and still love. Michael chronicled their story perfectly when he read in his letter to his bride, “...I first had a crush on you, to liking you, to loving you, and now to becoming one with you.”
Their wedding was the complete balance of vintage charm and modern boho. Shelby’s dress was a gorgeous gown with intricate designs. Michael’s suit was perfected with a floral tie that blended wonderfully with the theme of the day. Their ceremony was in the backyard of the timeless Thompson House in downtown Leland, Mississippi.
It was evident that Michael and Shelby’s love was a love built on friendship, laughter, and sincere joy. Friends and family celebrated the sweet couple with eating, drinking, and dancing the night away! Michael and Shelby were married on October 13, 2018, at the Thompson House in Leland, Mississippi.
