Trek at Hiji Otaki (Hiji Falls), Kunigami, Okinawa Oct 16, 2015
Of the many hiking trails on Okinawa this is one of my favorites. The trailhead is about 2 km inland from National Route 58 along the island's western coast on the East China Sea. From there it's approximately 1.7 km along the forest paths, trails, stairs and bridges to get to the waterfall. The sound of the forest is amazing! At one point, maybe half-way of so along the trail we encountered a suspension bridge that was about 80 feet above the riverbed below. A very nice scene. Come on along - let's do this!

While gallivanting around March 2, 2017 we stopped in at the Yuiyui Kunigami michi no eki (road station) and picked up a bunch of souvenir-type stuff and lots (and lots) of chinsuko! After that we stepped out of the store and to our delight found the Waya Soba Shop. It was DyLon's first taste of Okinawa-made yakisoba in 27 years! Yeah, he thought it was pretty durned tasty!

Visiting Amazing Cape Hedo, Okinawa in Japan
Cape Hedo (辺戸岬 Hedo-misaki?), or Hedo Point, is the northernmost point on Okinawa Island, located within Kunigami Village. A cape jutting out north from the island, it faces the South China Sea on the west, and the Pacific Ocean on the east. On a particularly clear day, the island of Yoron (Yoronjima) in Kagoshima Prefecture can be seen on the horizon. Yoron Island is located approximately 23 kilometres (14 mi) to the north.[1][2]
Cape Hedo is part of Okinawa Dai Sekirinzan Quasi-National Park, a prefectural park established in 1965 and re-established with the reversion of Okinawa to Japan in 1972.[2]
In the Shōhō Kuniezu, a kuniezu, or series of Japanese provincial land maps created during the Edo period (1603 – 1868), Cape Hedo appears as Heto misaki, or Cape Heto. The expedition of Commodore Perry (1794 – 1858) visited Cape Hedo and recorded it as Cape Hope in his Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan. The Nihon Suiroshi, a pilot guide first issued in 1892, records that the cape is also known as Cape Kunigami and is commonly used as a nautical landmark. For more info, visit this link:

Pizza in the Sky aka Kajinho is the place to eat if you find yourself in Nago. If you're not in Nago but are considering a road trip, I recommend it! The view, the food, and the acerola juice are well worth it.
We went in a group of 5 (4 adults and 1 toddler). We ordered a medium vegetarian pizza, a medium pepperoni pizza, two acerola juices, and a beer. Our total was 5,900 JPY. The waitress provided child-safe dishes and utensils for the toddler in our group.
Pizza, fresh juices, beer, an extraordinary view of the islands, and hospitable staff await.
