► Here's a look at the Hikawa Jinja Shrine during the time of hatsumode (new years prayers) which always takes place in the first week of January. The shrine itself was established in 473 B.C., and ranks among the most important shinto main-shrines in Japan, having 59 branches of smaller shrines under it scattered around Tokyo.
It's a very nice and beautiful place, and it's at times like this, with so many worshippers visiting, you can really feel, this place is so much more than just
a sightseeing spot for tourists, it's an important and integrated part of modern Japan.

► Here's a few impressions of how Omiya's Hikawa Jinja Shrine looks like on a mild December day, I was lucky there were still quite a few red maple leafs left, making the place look its best. Hikawa Jinja is a shinto shrine, founded in 473 BC by Emperor Kosho.
(and I'll happily be the first to admit, I've never ever heard of the guy)
Hikawa Jinja is located approximately a 15-20 minutes walk from Omiya Station, which can be reached from central Tokyo, by either local train (50 minutes) or Shinkansen (20 minutes). - Enjoy!

Hikawa Shrine 氷川神社 is a Shinto shrine in Kawagoe 川越, Saitama Prefecture, Japan located in a traditional countryside town in Japan.
For New Year's day in Japan many visit a Japanese shinto shrines. We went to Hikawa Shrine, a shinto shrine in Japan where they specialize in love. Love shrines in Japan are fairly common but this is a famous love shrine in Japan. Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine is a marriage shrine in Japan.
Visiting a Japanese shrine on New Year's Day or visiting a Japanese temple on New Year's Day are some things to do in Japan for New Year's. At Hikawa shrine, there are many japanese shrine rituals that you can do to promote love and marriage. Don't forget to get your japanese fortune told before you leave! “Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine Wind chimes(風鈴) matsuri” is an annual summer festival held at Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine, known as the god of marriage. The temple is decorated with wind chimes.
Also pay attention to the creek flowing in the precincts. Light up from 19:00 to 21:00 during summer.
You can tie a wooden strip with written wishes to the wind chimes. By doing so, you can deliver our thoughts to the “a god of marriage”.
Married wind chimes(縁結び風鈴) are very famous and popular with Japanese women.So be aware that it is crowded when you visit here during the summer.

Tori no ichi is held on the 10th in conjunction with the ([[PDEFINE ~ TFFS _ Daitosai]]) which is held at Musashi-Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine.
Around the shrine grounds and the approach to the shrine, there are about 1,000 stalls selling lucky charms such as rakes and food, and many people who look for good luck stay until late at night.
Tori no ichi is...
It is originally a festival held on Tori no hi (Otori Shrine) in November at Otori Shrine (Odori) in various regions, and it is held at temples and shrines in Kanto region that have transferred the divided tutelary deity of Otori Shrine.
The 10th day fair of Hikawa Shrine is sometimes called Otoshi no ichi because it has nothing to do with Otori Shrine, but it is described as Tori no ichi in the shrine's brief.
