World's Highest Post Office & Restaurant | KAZA TO -LANGZA - KOMIC - HIKKIM | SPITI ADVENTURE2018

LANGZA :- Nestled between the mountains in a bowl shaped area in the Spiti Valley is a small remote village named Langza. This village is situated at an altitude of 14,500 feet above sea level in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh in northern India.

Langza is also considered to be one of the highest villages in the world with a motorable road. Owing to its proximity to Tibet in China, the population of the village is predominantly Buddhist and belongs to the Sakyapa sect of Tibetian Buddhism. The village has a population of about 137 people living in 33 houses.

Langza is divided into two sections; Langza Yongma (Lower) and Langza Gongma (Upper). The main occupation of the villagers in the olden days was mud craft. This art prevails in the village to this day. Vessels of all shapes and sizes are produced and sold all across the country. Agriculture is another major occupation in this village. Crops such as rice and potatoes are cultivated here.

KOMIC :- Famed as the highest motorable village in Asia, Komic in Spiti Valley is placed at an altitude of 5150 m above the sea level. The village has around a dozen houses, one monastery and a population of around 150, including the monks. The place has been blessed by unspoilt scenery, lush surroundings, snow-covered peaks, and barren landscapes.
Komic monastery is the main attractions here. It is built on the top of a small hill. As you climb up, you see the colorful flags fluttering rapidly. Do the views of the surroundings are wonderful Stay here till sunset to savor wonderful sights. Komic only as a homestay as accommodation with only 2-3 rooms.

During the winter season (November to March), the village is cut from the rest of the civilization due to heavy snow and not having roads. The temperatures can fall below minus 30 degree Celsius. At that time, the only mode of transportation is a yak. The nearest school is an hour away, and there is lack of daily necessities. But, in spite of all these difficulties, the villagers are helpful, happy and friendly.

HIKKIM :- Hikkim is a village in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh state in northern India. It is near to the Kaza location. It is one of the highest year-round inhabited locations in India, with residences from 4330 to 4400 meters. Komic village two km to the southeast has residences up to 4520 meters, and Korzok village on Tso Moriri has year-round residences to 4570 meters. Most of the people are Buddhists. The region remains cut off from other regions for half the year due to heavy snow fall over the passes. People use stones extensively to build houses and structures. Tangyud gompa Monastery is located near to this location.

This location is credited as World's highest polling station. It is recorded in the Limca Book of Records also.

The location is also credited to have the World's highest post office. The Pin code is 172114.

The location appeared in the Wanderlust photo of the year for the year 2009.

Situated at the altitude of 4440 metres, the post office in Hikim is said to be the World's Highest Post Office. I visited this Hikkim village in May 2017 during my Spiti trip. Tabo monastery was founded in 996 AD and is noted for being the oldest continuously operating Buddhist enclave in both India and Himalayas. We then resumed our journey and headed towards Dhankar monstery which is 31 km ahead of Tabo. The monastery is built on a 1000 ft high spur overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers - one of the world's most spectacular settings for a gompa.
We then reached Kaza. Kaza is the subdivisional headquarters of the remote Spiti Valley in the Lahaul and Spiti district and situated along the Spiti River at an elevation of 3,650 m which is the largest township and commercial centre of the valley. The ancient Sakya Tangyud Monastery is one of the points of interest in this town.

We took a diversion from the highway and ascended towards Langza, which is 14 km away from Kaza at an altitude of around 4435 m. We already dropped our luggage at the hotel in Kaza and after having lunch there we decided to visit Langza, Komic and Hikkim first, which is an offbeat location around Kaza. As Ki, Kibber and Tashigang can be covered on next day as it falls on the way to Chandratal.

Kye Gompa or Key or Kee  is a  Tibatian buddiest monastery located on top of a hill at an altitude of 4,166 metres (13,668 ft) above sea leavel, close to the Spiti River, in the Spiti Valley of Himachal pradesh, Mahaul spiti district, India.

It is the biggest monastery of Spiti Valley and a religious training centre for Lamas.

World’s Highest Post Office In Spiti Valley

Great experience to be at the highest post office in the world. Hikkim is a small village 1hr uphill run from kaza but the roads are extremely dangerous and almost impossible during the rainy season. The village is completely cutoff from rest of the world during the winter season. We were lucky to meet the post master of hikkim post office even after office timing. He is very soft spoken humble man.

Road Trip to World's Highest village | KOMIC | HIKKIM | LANGZA | KAZA | NAKO | CHITKUL

This video is about our expedition from Amritsar to Kaza, Himachal Pradesh. Drive till Shimla is pretty relaxing. Shimla-Kaza is a long one and its not a single day-light drive. Our first stop was at a beautiful village Chitkul. It is village in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Chitkul road is one of the most exciting drives in the world. The road is narrow. After Chitkul our next stop was Nako. It is a small village in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, India. It lies in the sensitive restricted zone along the border with Tibet. Our next and final destination was Kaza. It is situated along the Spiti River at an elevation of 11,980 ft. above sea level. The roads are terrible narrow and very dangerous. The driveway from Shimla to Kaza is very challenging but the view and the place overpowers every difficulty. Kaza is surrounded by high and snow covered mountains, crystal clear river & streams, and barren landscapes interspersed with green landscapes and meadows. It is a marvelous destination, which houses several beautiful palaces, monasteries, gompas, and other historical buildings. One must visit this appealing destination. By far it was our best trip. Kaza truly justifies Heaven On Earth.
