Hildesheim is a city in northern Germany. It's known for its historic churches, such as St. Michael’s, the 11th-century abbey with a painted wooden ceiling. Sacred relics are on display at the Dommuseum within St. Mary’s Cathedral.
The City Museum offers local history exhibits in the Knochenhauer-Amtshaus, an ornate half-timbered house on Market Square. Wildgatter animal park is home to deer and rescued birds of prey.

St Mary's Cathedral and St Michael's Church at Hildesheim - UNESCO World Heritage Site
These two UNESCO World Heritage site churches are in the town of Hildesheim in northern Germany, and have remained largely unchanged since their construction in the 11th century. Both have very distinct architectural styles, and some incredible treasures inside - St Michael's church's painted ceiling, and St Mary's cathedral's amazing bronze doors. Definitely a hidden gem, this one!

Domsanierung Hildesheim: Berühmte Bernwardtür zieht um
Für die Zeit der Domsanierung in Hildesheim muss die berühmte Bernwardtür ihren Platz im Westwerk der Bischofskirche verlassen. Bis zum Abschluss der Arbeiten zieht sie ins Hildesheimer Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum.
St Mary's Cathedral and St Michael's Church at Hildesheim (UNESCO/NHK)
St Michael's Church was built between 1010 and 1020 on a symmetrical plan with two apses that was characteristic of Ottonian Romanesque art in Old Saxony. Its interior, in particular the wooden ceiling and painted stucco-work, its famous bronze doors and the Bernward bronze column, are -- together with the treasures of St Mary's Cathedral -- of exceptional interest as examples of the Romanesque churches of the Holy Roman Empire.

Wir haben Hildesheim besucht, wo wir viele schöne historische
Kirchen und die tolle Altstadt bewundern dürften!
Zur der Zeit als wir dort waren fand grade das Weinfest statt, was
zur Eröffnung sehr stark besucht war! Daher habe ich Aufnahmen
am 2.ten Tag von dem Fest gemacht!
Die Touristenzentrale befindet sich direkt auf dem historischen Markplatz!
Sie sind auch sehr hilfbereit und geben Broschüren aus!
Leider kann man dort keine Ausflüge buchen zu umliegenden
Sehenswürdigkeiten wie das Schloß Marienburg!
Das muss man entweder mit Mietwagen oder Zug mit langem Fußweg selber organisieren! Auch die Besichtung der Stadt ist nur
zu Fuß möglich! Es wurde uns gesagt das die Straßen zu eng
wären, was aber der Wahrheit entspricht! Zu vielen Ausflugszielen
hätte man mit einem Stadtrundfahrtsbus/shuttle gekonnt!
Auch muss man ja nicht direkt vor der Kirchentür abgesetzt werden! Andere Städte muss ich sagen haben dies besser geregelt!
Und daher fand ich dies schon enttäuschend!
Leider informierte uns die Touristenzentrale auch nicht über lokale
Events wie z.Bsp. das Weinfest, was ja direkt vor Ihrer Tür veranstaltet wurde!
Das haben wir dann aus der Stadtzeitung erfahren!
Die Stadt selber ist aber immer einen Besuch wert!
Im Dom-Museum bekommt man sogar kostenlose Erfrischungen
und die Sanitäreinrichtung ist sehr gepflegt und ebenfalls gratis (^_~d)
We visited Hildesheim, where we have many beautiful historical
Churches and the great old town should admire!
At the time we were there, the wine festival was held, which
the opening was very busy! That's why I have footage
on the 2nd day of the festival!
The tourist center is located directly on the historic market place!
They are also very helpful and give out leaflets!
Unfortunately you can not book any excursions to surrounding
Attractions like the castle Marienburg!
You have to organize this yourself with a rental car or train with a long walk! Also the sightseeing of the city is only
possible on foot! We were told that the roads were too narrow
that wouldn't be the truth! To many destinations
could have been with a city tour bus/shuttle!
Also, you do not have to be dropped off directly in front of the church door! Other cities I have to say have better regulated this!
And that's why I found this disappointing!
Unfortunately the tourist center did not inform us about local
Events such the wine festival, which was held right on your doorstep!
That's what we learned from the city newspaper!
The city itself is always worth a visit!
In the cathedral museum you even get free refreshments
and the sanitary facility is well maintained and also free (^_~d)

The 1000-year-old rose bush - The Thousand-year Rose (German: Tausendjähriger Rosenstock, literally: Thousand-years rose bush) is also known as the Rose of Hildesheim. It grows on the apse of Hildesheim Cathedral, (German: der Hildesheimer Dom), officially the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary (German: St. Mariä Himmelfahrt), a medieval Roman Catholic cathedral in the city center of Hildesheim, Germany, that has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since 1985, together with the nearby St. Michael's Church. Here filmed at 11:34 A.M. on December 9, 2014.
Der Tausendjährige Rosenstock in Hildesheim ist ein sagenumwobenes Exemplar der Hundsrose auf dem Friedhof des Hildesheimer Mariendoms. Er befindet sich hinter dem Chor der Domkirche und ist das Wahrzeichen der Stadt Hildesheim.
Der Rosenstock stand Pate für das Hildesheimer Wahrzeichen – die Rose. Er ist eng mit der Gründung von Dom, Bistum und der Stadt Hildesheim im 9. Jahrhundert verbunden und gilt als Garant des Lebens an diesem Ort. Bei einem Bombenangriff am 22. März 1945 während des Zweiten Weltkriegs verbrannte der Rosenstock und lag unter Trümmern der Apsis begraben. Acht Wochen nach dem Angriff brachte die Wurzel des Rosenstocks 25 neue Triebe hervor. Damit bekam das Rosenwunder eine neue Bedeutung, denn darunter verstand man bis dahin nur eine fromme Legende, die bis ins 17. Jahrhundert zurückverfolgt werden kann. Der heutige Rosenstock hat eine Höhe von fast 10 Metern, was durch Rankhilfen bedingt ist. Normalerweise erreichen derartige Rosenpflanzen nur 3 Meter Höhe und lehnen sich nicht an Gebäude an.

Według legendy, tak długo, jak rośnie ta róża, tak długo miasto Hildesheim będzie dobrze prosperować.
The rose that climbs on the wall of the cathedral's apse is believed to be the oldest living rose in the world. A Rosa canina, commonly known as a wild dog rose, it grows against the eastern apse of the cathedral, which is around 21 metres (69 ft) high and 9 metres (30 ft) wide. The rose bush reaches a height of around 10 metres (33 ft) and documentation verifies its age at approximately 700 years. Slight variations arise in the tale of the establishment of the diocese by King Louis the Pious at Hildesheim in 815 but the rose bush is a common theme in all versions. The Cathedral (built between 1010 and 1020 in the Romanesque style) was destroyed by Allied bombers in 1945 during the Second World War, but the roots of the rose bush survived and it blossomed again among the ruins. According to legend, while the rose bush flourishes, Hildesheim will prosper.
