Mohajmata Temple & Gateway (Torana) - Terahi, (M. P.)
Terahi, a village in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh is located about 8 kilometers south east of Rannod. Terahi is a place of considerable archeological importance. According to an inscription at rannod, its old name was Terambi. This temple is dedicated to goddess Mohajmata, has richly carved torana or gateway. The torana is in fine state of preservation. Sculptures of Surya,Vishnu, Kartikeya, Chamunda, Vaishnavi, Indrani, Varaha, Hayagriva, Balarama, Ganesha, Agni, Vishnu, Harihara, Kubera and Saraswati are depicted on pillars of Gateway. In inscriptions, the goddess is mentioned as Chandiya and once as Ambika. On basis of this, the temple can be assigned to the ninth century CE. As we find many images of ghosts, kankals (skeletons), goblins around the temple walls so it is quite clear that the temple is dedicated to some fierce form of the goddess only.
