Mon Repos : music video tribute to Bert Hinkler
Bert Hinkler is a hero of mine....I discovered his story whilst staying a few days in Bundaberg. Such courage and integrity and so determined.....to be an early aviator and survive you had to be. He was a student of flight and so thorough in his preparation.....unfortunately he met his end in the manner many did, probably due more to the fact that he was pushing himself at the time and of course he was older and in need of funds. 'Mon Repos' was the beach at Bundaberg where he first flew the glider he built and later the name he gave to his residence in England. The museum in Bundaberg is spectacular and includes that same house, brought back from England and rebuilt brick by brick! Truly amazing.....go and see it if you can.

Bert Hinkler (aviator): MY MESSAGE TO AUSTRALIA (rec. 13th March 1928).
Bert Hinkler (1892 - 1933) was one of Australia's most remarkable aviation pioneers. He designed a built early aircraft before WW1, served in the Royal Naval Air Service as a gunner/observer, and in 1918 was posted to Italy with No.28 Squadron of the RFC. These recordings were made in March 1928, just after he completed the first solo flight from England to Australia.
The recording is marred by a series of pops and crackles from the 1928-vintage microphone preamplifier, a fact that, in addition to the recording's very low audio level, may have mitigated against the record's sales. This disc is now quite rare.
