We went to Oklahoma to find some tougher competition. Find it we did. Dan (camouflage singlet) loses a tough match here to a seasoned wrestler 5-0. Dan was caught off guard by his opponent's use of the chicken wing. Learning to defend it will definitely be on the to do list before USJOC.
Oklahoma City Sooner or Later Grand Opening
On March 1, 2011, Retro Metro OKC helped celebrate the opening of Oklahoma City Sooner or Later, a historic exhibit on the history of city government. The project was led by Retro Metro OKC founding members Frances Kersey and Pete White. Those assisting on the project included fellow members Steve Lackmeyer, Buddy Johnson and Catherine Montgomery. This exhibit also marked one of the last public appearances of City Hall historian Kathie Wrights, who sadly passed away a few short weeks later. Wrights helped research and write for this exhibit.
The exhibit spans more than 120 years of city government history, from the city's first unofficial mayor who was shot in a land dispute to the evolution of the present form of government.
The history is told through artifact displays, photos, documents and text, with topics including the birth of Oklahoma City, growth, equality, transparency, MAPS and the evolution to the Council-Manager form of government.
Oklahoma City! Sooner or Later... also examines the 122-year history of the Oklahoma City Fire Department. Objects on display include a badge collection on loan from the Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum, a 1940s fire helmet, a cherry bomb fire extinguisher, a water cannon nozzle and a sand bucket used to extinguish fires in the 1920s.
One of the exhibit's focal points is a 1938 class A dress uniform once worn by deputy chief Hayden W. Marrs Sr., grandfather of former fire chief and current City councilman Gary Marrs, who is a third generation fire fighter.
Plans call for parts of the exhibit to rotate, featuring different aspects of City government history annually.
The self guided exhibit is free and open to the public year-round from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday on the second floor of City Hall, 200 N Walker. For more information, contact the City Clerk's Office at 297-2391.
The Sooner or Later exhibit is made possible by a grant from the Oklahoma Humanities Council and the We the People initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The City of Oklahoma City matched the grant funds and partnered with the Metropolitan Library System, Oklahoma Historical Society, Oklahoma Publishing Company, Oklahoma City Museum of Art and Retro Metro OKC.

redrock canyon
Red Rock Canyon State Park, located near Hinton in Caddo County, Oklahoma, was a favored winter camp for the Plains Indians. It was also landmark and camping area on the California Road. Settlers going west used this sandstone canyon for collection of fresh water and wagon repairs. On the west side of the canyon you still can see the wagon ruts. The canyon and the surrounding land were owned by Samuel Handley until his early death during the Depression/Dust Bowl. His widow sold the canyon and the rest of the lands and moved her family to California. One of Samuel's sisters lived in a cabin at the bottom of the canyon until she died. The cabin is still used by the Park Service. The canyon has the only remaining site of native Caddo maple trees.
