Brazilian Dancing Legend Walter Pinheiro And The Belo Horizonte Soul Movement
A couple weeks ago in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, I visited a fair in the city centre called the Hippie Fair. In a park next to this fair [Américo Renné Giannetti Municipal Park] there was a group of people dancing to soul music.
Later I found out that this was part of a movement in Belo Horizonte called Movimento Soul BH led by Walter Pinheiro.
I interviewed Water to find out more about this movement and it's history. Watch this video to hear his story.

The Soul Movement BH is an example of an initiative that is dedicated to spreading the black art . Created in 2009 by dancer Walter Pinheiro , DJ Sir Walter Soul , Soul seeks to keep alive the culture through awareness and dissemination of culture from events that are part of the city's population . Every Sunday the 2nd of each month, the group meets on the Cardoso Square in Sierra neighborhood , central- south of the capital and on the first Sunday of the month at Seven Square and on the 3rd Sunday of the month at the Fair of Arts and Crafts and Food typical of Av.Afonso Feather ( Hippie Fair ) in central BH . Currently , the BH Soul Movement remains with the effort of the organizers and members , hence the importance of government support and Belotur to value and encourage the sustainability of these initiatives .
The soul music mixing rhythm and blues and gospel music have been created in the United States in the decades 50 and 60 in a society marked by racial prejudice . In Brazil , the Soul movement gained prominence in the 70s , especially in Belo Horizonte , São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro . Over time, the pace was losing strength and , some nine years this culture has been mainly with the events and activities of groups in Belo Horizonte rescued soul .
Also clarify that through research with the public event goer , Soul BH motion provides improvements in health and wellness to people who have bad depression , loneliness and stress .
Belo Horizonte is an important capital for dance music and rhythm of the original soul funk or soul music thanks to the large number of dancers , musicians and DJs who focus on style in the city . The movement has become , increasingly more relevant to the people day considering the number of events dedicated to the style that despite telling with little or no financial resources , add a significant number of followers , present in all the actions of dissemination culture Movement Soul BH .
