Hiran Minar ! Fabulous Place in Sheikhupura Pakistan
The Hiran Minar is one of the best known and most beautiful sites used to be the favorite hunting spot of all Muslim rulers. Hiran Minar or The Deer Minaret is 17th-century Mughal-era complex located in the town of Sheikhupura, about 40 kilometers northwest of Lahore in the Pakistani province of Punjab. Hiran Minar was built at the site of a game reserve in honor of Mughal Emperor Jahangir's pet antelope, due to his fondness of nature and relationship between human’s pets and hunting. Therefore, Hiran Minar was built during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir in a hunting reserve used by the Mughal royals. During the region of Emperor Salim from 1605 to 1627, Sheikhupura had the status of a royal hunting ground. The minaret itself was built in 1606 as a monument to Emperor Jahangir's beloved pet antelope, Mansiraj, or Light of the Mind. Who had been trained to lure wild animals to the tank in order to be hunted? The practice of building such tomb-markers over the skulls of game animals is an ancient Persian custom. Mughal Emperor Jahangir ordered to build a tower and a grave for his deer, Mansraj, and he spotted a deer tried to kill, but accidentally killed his own favorite, Mansraj. The emperor becomes so sad that he ordered to bury deer in the ground where it died and build a tower called Hiran Minar. This is a very rare example of love towards a pet, a gesture of love towards wildlife in a time when the western world was even not familiar with such intentions.

TRAVEL GUIDE TO SHEIKHUPURA | DISCOVERING PAKISTAN
Sheikhupura is a city the Pakistani province of Punjab. Founded by the Mughal Emperor Jehangir in 1607, Sheikhupura is now the 17th largest city in Pakistan, and is the headquarters of Sheikhupura District. The city is an industrial center, and satellite town, located about 38 km northwest of Lahore.
The region around Sheikhupura was previous known as Virk Garh, or Virk Fort, in reference to the Jat tribe that inhabited the area. The city, founded in 1607, was named by Jehangir himself - the city's first name is recorded in the Emperor's autobiography, the Tuzk-e-Jahangiri, in which he refers to the town as Jehangirabad. The city then came to be known by its current name, which derives from Jehangir's nickname Shekhu that was given to him by his mother, wife of Akbar the Great.
Hiran Minar (Urdu: ہرن مینار; or The Deer Tower) is an early 17th-century Mughal era complex located in Sheikhupura, in the Pakistani province of Punjab.
The complex was built at the site of a game reserve in honor of Mughal Emperor Jahangir's pet antelope. The Emperor is remembered for his fondness of nature, and his complex embodies the Mughal relationship between humans, pets, and hunting.
Hiran Minar was built during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir in a hunting reserve used by the Mughal royals. The reserve was built in scrub forest and allowed Mughal emperors to experience a sense of semi-wilderness near the imperial city of Lahore. The game-reserve was used as a park where visitors could enjoy the sport of hunting.
The minaret itself was built in 1606 C.E. as a monument to Emperor Jahangir's beloved pet antelope, Mansiraj, or Light of the Mind, who had been trained to lure wild animals to the tank in order to be hunted. The practice of building such tomb-markers over the skulls of game animals is an ancient Persian custom.[6]
The minaret and tank were soon accompanied by a larger pavilion, built during the reign of Shah Jahan.
Sheikhupura Fort (Urdu: شیخوپورہ قلعہ) is a Mughal-era fort built in 1607 near the city of Sheikhupura in Punjab, Pakistan. The fort was designed by Sikander Moeen and built during the reign of Emperor Jahangir. The fort was drastically altered during the Sikh-era, with numerous buildings constructed - some with exquisite Sikh-era frescoes.
The fort is located near the Hiran Minar, built as a memorial for the pet antelope of Emperor Jahangir. The fort currently is not open to tourists as it is heavily damaged.
Mughal Emperor Jahangir laid the foundations of Sheikhupura in 1607 near the older town of Jandiala Sher Khan, an important provincial town during the early to middle Mughal era.[7] He also erected the nearby Hiran Minar, Sheikhpura's most renowned site, between 1607 and 1620 as a monument to his beloved pet deer, Mansiraj, at a time when the area served as a royal hunting ground for the Mughal Emperor.[8] Jehangir laid the foundation of the Sheikhupura Fort in 1607, which is situated in the city's centre.
Following the collapse of Mughal authority, the city came under the control of the Bhatti tribe.[4] The tribe struggled to maintain control of the area, as bandits and Sikhs began encroaching upon the area. In 1797, the Durrani king Shah Zaman briefly seized the city and fortress during his campaign to capture Lahore.[9] The city's fort then was captured by the Sikh bandit, Inder Singh.
Sheikhupura was then captured from the Bhattis by the forces of Lehna Singh in 1799.[9] Sheikhupura thus came under the rule of the Sikh Sukherchakia Misl state under Lehna Singh's ally, Ranjit Singh, forcing the Bhatti tribe to retreat to Pindi Bhattian and Jalalpur.[4] Sheikhupura then changed hands several more times, before finally being captured by Ranjit Singh in 1808.[9]

Hiran Minar is an early 17th-century Mughal-era complex located in the town of Sheikhupura, about 40 kilometres northwest of Lahore in the Pakistani province of Punjab.
The complex was built at the site of a game reserve in honour of Mughal Emperor Jahangir's pet antelope. The Emperor is remembered for his fondness of nature and his complex embodies the Mughal relationship between humans, pets, and hunting.
The Jahangir-era minaret stands 30 metres tall, and was built in 1606 C.E. as a tomb marker for the emperor's pet antelope, Minraj. The sides of the minar are inscribed with a eulogy to the pet antelope.
A massive rectangular water-tank pool measuring 229 metres by 273 metres lies at the heart of the complex. At the center of each side of the tank, a brick ramp slopes down to the water, providing access for wild game that were sought by hunters.
An octagonal pavilion built during the reign of Shah Jahan is at the centre of the pool. The pavilion is two-storeyed, and is topped by a rooftop 'chhatri' that served as a stone gazebo. The pavilion's architecture is similar to the Sher Mandal at Delhi's Purana Qila, built by Emperor Humayun.
The pavilion was surrounded not only by the water tank, but also semi-wilderness. The pavilion was thus likely used for recreational purposes.
A causeway spans the pool to connect the minaret with the pavilion along an axis which passes through a gateway.
Unique features of this particular complex are the antelope's grave and the distinctive water collection system.
At each corner of the tank (approximately 750 by 895 feet (273 m) in size), is a small, square building and a subsurface water collection system which supplied the water tank; only one of these water systems is only extensively exposed today.
