Belmonte Portugal (HD)
BELMONTE, village, district of Castelo Branco, is located in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela and the birthplace of the navigator Pedro Alvares Cabral. The municipality of Belmonte is twinned with the cities of Santa Cruz Cabrália, Belmonte and San Vicente: Brazil, Meziere: France, Rosh Pina: Israel and the Portuguese city of Santarem. The history of the village dates back to the 12th Century and it was here that in the 15th Century has set an important Jewish community. With a vast architectural heritage worth visiting: the Belmonte Castle, the Pantheon, the Church of S.Tiago Granary, the Chapels of St. Anthony and Calvary, the Pelourinho, the Jewis Museum and Oil Museum and the Mother Church. Just outside the village, towards the city of Guarda, we are surprised by a building at least puzzling, Tower of Centum Cellas, it's an important and unique monument in the Iberian Peninsula, which definitely deserves a visit.*carl0spais*2013.

STORYLINE
The Pan American Torch Relay flame was lit in the pyramids of Teotihuacan in Mexico on Monday, en route to Brazil where 42 countries will participate in the Rio 2007 Pan American Games.
The Pan American torch will start its long journey on Tuesday, heading first for Santa Cruz in Cabralia on Brazil's northeast coast.
Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Cesar Maia, and Brazil's Minister of Sports Orlando Silva, were there to see the lighting ceremony in the historic pyramids of Teotihuacan, the ancient city that was once the biggest in the Americas.
Cabralia is part of the so-called Discovery Coast, where the first Portuguese caravels arrived in 1500 to discover and explore Brazil. Nearby Porto Seguro will be the Pan American torch's second stop.
The tour will cover Brazil's 26 state capitals, plus the national capital Brasilia and 22 other municipalities. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is expected to see it arrive at the Palacio do Planalto, the government's headquarters.
It is due to reach Rio de Janeiro on 13 July for the opening ceremony of the 2007 Games. It will be used to light the Pan American flame at the Maracana Stadium, and will burn until the end of the event, on 29 July.
Around 3,000 people - athletes and celebrities - will carry the Pan American Torch Rio 2007 in relays of 400 metres (yards).
The Torch Relay is an event that occurs before every version of the Olympic Games, and represents peace, friendship and the union of peoples through sport, which are the principles of the Olympics.

18. Pedro Álvares Cabral
Pedro Álvares Cabral (or Pedro Álvarez Cabral, as it is traditionally known in Spanish) (Belmonte, 1467 or 1468 - Santarém, 1520 or 1526) was a fidalgo and Portuguese navigator known for having commanded the second Portuguese fleet to India , on whose journey he made the discovery of Brazil on April 22, 1500. On April 22, 1500, a Wednesday in the week after Easter Sunday, after forty-three days of travel after having left the coast African, Cabral sighted Mount Pascoal, on the south coast of the current state of Bahia. The next day a first contact with the indigenous people took place. On April 24, he sailed along the coast to the north in search of shelter, founding in the current bay of Santa Cruz Cabrália, in the vicinity of the current city of Porto Seguro, where he remained until May 2. Convinced that the newly discovered land was an island, Cabral gave it the name Vera Cruz Island (ilha de Vera Cruz) and took possession of it by building a cross and holding a religious service, the first mass in Brazil, celebrated on April 26, 1500, Easter Sunday, by a Franciscan, Father José de Anchieta, then Bishop of Ceuta. (The iron cross used in that service is located in the Treasure Cathedral in Braga and was taken back to Brazil for the inauguration of Brasilia in 1960). Cabral took possession of the discovered land, on behalf of the Portuguese Crown and sent back to Portugal one of the smaller vessels, the ship in charge of supplies under Gaspar de Lemos, with the news, including the Letter of Pero Vaz of Caminha.
17. Lewis and Clark (suggested by Laura Williams)
The expedition of Lewis and Clark (1804-06), commanded by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, was the first terrestrial expedition that starting from the East of the United States reached the Pacific coast and returned. The expedition of Lewis and Clark was the first terrestrial expedition in the United States that reached the Pacific coast, but more than a decade before, it had been preceded by a British (Canadian) expedition, led by the explorer Sir Alexander Mackenzie in July 1793 , which was the first that completed, by non-indigenous people, the first crossing of the North American subcontinent in northern Mexico. 'We left Pittsburgh this day at 11 am with a group of 11 people, 7 of whom are soldiers, a pilot and three young men on trial who have offered to accompany me on this trip.' With these words, written on August 31, 1803, Meriwether Lewis began his first entry in his travel book on the epic Lewis and Clark Expedition to the Pacific Ocean. Lewis proclaimed that the mouth of the Dubois River (on the eastern margin of the Mississippi, opposite the mout...

The first colonial capital of Brazil, the city is one of the oldest in the Americas. Bahia
Bahia (local pronunciation: [baˈi.ɐ]) is one of the 26 states of Brazil, and is located in the eastern part of the country on the Atlantic coast. It is the fourth most populous Brazilian state after São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, and the fifth-largest in size. Bahia's capital is the city of Salvador, or more properly, São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos, and is located at the junction of the Atlantic Ocean and the Bay of All Saints, officially first seen by European sailors in 1501. The name bahia is an archaic spelling of the Portuguese word baía, meaning bay.

BAHIA - SALVADOR

1 - Terra Indígena Imbiriba, próximo à foz do Rio dos Frades, a vinte quilômetros ao Norte de Barra Velha. É o território mais antigo;
