RV Travels to Historic Haile House Plantation in Gainesville Florida
This is a must see if you are in the area. I LOVED this home!.
The energy I got from this home was of a warm and loving home where the slaves were considered Family. Many of them stayed on after emancipation because I believe, they were loved.
The writing on the walls in my opinion, where writings of some of the slaves who were taught by the Plantation owners , how to read and write. This is still denied today. Freedom of expression underneath the plaster in my opinion.
There are many places in history where Slaves where tortured and hurt but this place is not like that. Goes to show you, that there were people who knew the value of another human during the days of slavery. They risked a lot in order to educate the slaves and slaves were considered part of the family.
Visiting this home reminded me that there were good people in history that did not get credit for the sacrifices they made to help others. Some confederate southerners risked a lot to help the slaves and they should not be forgotten.
This Plantation is being renovated . I would visit it soon before some larger organization takes over and makes it into a stuffy museum that could portray other agendas.
In history there was hate but there was also Love . You will have to decide that for yourself after visiting this Plantation.????????

Ellis Mize Gravesite in Alachua County
This is the gravesite of Ellis Mize located at Fairbanks Cemetery in Alachua County and just outside of the cemetery is a historical marker describing about him and the turpentine industry. From 1909 until 1923, Florida led the nation in pine gum production. In 1909, the peak year in the U.S.A. gum yielded 750,000 barrels of turpentine and 2.5 million barrels of rosin. The 1910 census listed 27,2ll men and 3l6 women, mostly blacks, working in the industry with 65 percent in Florida. Fairbanks, Florida was a turpentine still town with the Mize family operation processing ten 50-gallon barrels of crude gum at a time. This still required six crops of 10,000 faces (an area where streaks of bark are removed) and each crop covered 400 acres. As recently as 1951, 105 fire stills operated around Gainesville. The Mize family operated the Fairbanks still until 1950. Many of the buildings (the cooper’s shed, machine shop and worker homes) still stand. Ellis Mize (1882-1967) donated land with a lake bearing his name to the University of Florida’s forestry education program. In 1948, they deeded this private cemetery on that property to the Fairbanks Baptist Church. Because of his love for the pine tree industry, Mize had his granite tombstone carved to resemble a “working face” pine tree. This marker is dedicated to all who toiled to provide an income for families and communities and resinous products worldwide.

To Cuba and Back Preview
Join Abolitionist Richard Henry Dana, as he explores Spanish Cuba of 1859, where kidnapped Black Africans were slaves on vast sugar plantations, along with impoverished Chinese Coolies, suffering under unbreakable eight- year contracts.
Dana visited Cuba on a fact finding mission he calls a “vacation voyage.” He describes Cuban slavery, explores Cuban society, institutions, educational systems and exposes a corrupt prison system, where the more a prisoner pays, the less he is punished.
In 1859, slavery was still legal in the United States and flourished throughout the Southern States. Because of Cuba’s close proximity to the United States, some slave holders felt it could be a natural extension of the American southern slave states.
French-style Country Manor, Mendham Boro NJ - Real Estate Homes for Sale
For more information visit
This exquisite French-style country manor is reminiscent of manors of the Loire Valley. It is situated on a promontory on nine acres of wooded and open land offering solitude and privacy. Meandering walls of stone, indigenous to the property, accent the carefully tended land. This exceptional residence was designed and constructed in the early 2000s. It is constructed stucco and fieldstone mined from the property. Unique cooper details and antique architectural-salvage elements enhance the residence. The handsome roof, highlighted by copper flashing, is of wood shingles. A unique feature of this magnificent property is a stone chapel, known as the Little Church in the Wildwood and as the Edward Chapel. Constructed in 1908 as a part of the Balbrook estate, the chapel is a replica of a Bavarian chapel and with matching stone, compliments the more recently constructed home beautifully. Located at the end of a private drive with an allee of sugar maple trees, this exquisite home, built in 2002, was hand-crafted by old-world artisians with incredible attention to detail. From the oval plaster recessed ceilings in the dining and living rooms to the basket-weave mouldings and Venetian plaster walls, each element of the building was painstakingly created by the finer craftsmen in their respective fields. The main floor is wonderfully laid out with a combination of Sienna marble and approximately 150-year-old antique heart-pine floors. Every room has custom-crafted architectural elements, some with imported antique fireplace mantels. The formal rooms, and great room, enjoy gorgeous views of the front and rear of the property from custom windows and French doors. The great room, library and foyer all open out onto the expansive rear bluestone patio. The kitchen and family room areas include a keeping room with farmer's fireplace surrounded by Delft tile and stone and barn-beam mantle, informal dining area with French doors to the back garden. The French-style country kitchen is conveniently designed for the gourmet cook and includes custom-fitted, built-in antique cupboard and honed-marble countertops. A 90- foot galley hall with hand-plastered barrel-vaulted ceiling, leads from one end of the home to the master suite which has a gracious sitting room, fireplace, dressing room and bathroom with Carrera marble floor, tub surround and shower. The spacious bedroom has a plastered ceiling with French inspired designs, massive built-ins and beautiful views of the property. A first-floor laundry and mudroom with two sinks and dog-wash area, and the secondary office with built-in desk and tumbled Sienna marble floors, complete this handsome main level. The second floor of the home has five exquisitely designed en suite bedrooms, all with their own custom details, a second-floor laundry and a separate caretaker's apartment with living room, kitchen, bedroom and full bathroom. The finished lower level includes an office suite with reception area and separate outside entrance, as well as a large gym and full bath with steam shower. A stunning home theatre seats 11 on leather reclining chairs, with a 12-foot screen and Runco electronics. A full bar with custom wood inlay cabinets and Belgian marble counter tops is surrounded by a 1000-bottle capacity wine cellar with two stained-glass windows and marble floor, a pool-table area and seating area, along with generous storage rooms. To the rear of the house, a multi-level bluestone terrace is beautifully enhanced with stone walls, gardens and large pool, complete with pool house with full kitchen, bath and dressing room. A granite-block courtyard with French bee-wing motif leads to the four-car garage. A long and winding drive leads over a wooden bridge to the chapel that has been loving restored by the current owners, including bell tower and multiple stained-glass windows, one of which is said to be from Louis Comfort Tiffany, who allegedly worshiped there with other notables. Offering incredible privacy, this home is also very convenient to the villages of Mendham and Bernardsville.
