History of the Jews in Morocco
Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written
language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through
audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio
while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using
a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Moroccan Jews constitute an ancient community. Before the founding of Israel in 1948, there were about 250,000 to 350,000 Jews in the country, which gave Morocco the largest Jewish community in the Muslim world, but fewer than 2,500 or so remain. Jews in Morocco, originally speakers of Berber languages, Judeo-Moroccan Arabic or Judaeo-Spanish, were the first in the country to adopt the French language, and unlike the general population French remains the main (and, in many cases, the exclusive) language of members of the Jewish community there.

Irish Republican Jews (Part 1 of 2).
n this first part of two, presenter Yacky Fachler pays tribute to Robert Briscoe, who not only helped to import arms for the rebels, he went on to become a founder member of Fianna Fáil. He was a close confidante of Eamonn De Valera and was a long serving member of the Irish parliament. He was elected as Lord Mayor of Dublin, a post also held by his son Benjamin.
As the centenary of the 1916 Uprising approaches, plans are afoot to pay tribute to this Irish historical milestone and the personalities associated with the event.
Smile as you hear how Michael Collins escaped capture by the British disguised as an Orthodox Jew.
He introduces the audience to Estella Solomons who was an active member of Cumann na mBan (the womens' IRA), before becoming a renowned artist in her own right.
We also hear of Gerald Goldberg, a solicitor who was highly regarded in Republican circles for his robust, and often successful defences of accused prisoners. He became the first Jewish lord mayor of Cork, and one of the early pioneers of Progressive Democrats party.
The little known role of Jacob Elyan during the 1913 Dublin lock out is heard by many for the first time. Others will be surprised to learn of the closeness of respected lawyer Michael Noyek to Arthur Griffith, who was notorious for his previous antisemitic statements, particularly during the Dreyfus affair.
Cork (city)
Cork (Irish: Corcaigh, pronounced [ˈkoɾkɪɟ], from corcach, meaning marsh) is a city in Ireland. It is located in the South-West Region and in the province of Munster. With a population of 119,230, it is the second largest city in the state and the third most populous on the island of Ireland.
The city is built on the River Lee which divides into two channels at the western end of the city. The city centre is located on the island created by the channels. At the eastern end of the city centre where the channels re-converge, quays and docks along the river banks lead to Lough Mahon and Cork Harbour, which is one of the world's largest natural harbours.

American Jews
American Jews, also known as Jewish Americans, are American citizens of the Jewish faith or Jewish ethnicity. The Jewish community in the United States is composed predominantly of Ashkenazi Jews and their U.S.-born descendants, making about 90% of the American Jewish population. Minority Jewish ethnic divisions are also represented, including Sephardic Jews, Mizrahi Jews, and a number of converts. The American Jewish community manifests a wide range of Jewish cultural traditions, as well as encompassing the full spectrum of Jewish religious observance.
Depending on religious definitions and varying population data, the United States is home to the largest or second largest (after Israel) Jewish community in the world. In 2012, the American Jewish population was estimated at between 5.5 and 8 million, depending on the definition of the term. This constitutes between 1.7% to 2.6% of the total US population.

Jewish Refugees during World War II
In recent years, South Dublin County Council (SDcc) has observed 20th of June as World Refugee. This has usually taken the form of an exhibition or a specific book dedicated to the topic. In 2017 they changed tacked and organised a lecture at the County Library, Tallaght, to commemorate the day.
They invited Yanky Fachler, Chair of the Jewish Historical Society, to deliver a talk of the subject of refugees. Yanky chose as his subject The Jewish Refugee experience during WW2. He is well qualified to speak on the topic, being the son of two refugees who escaped from Nazi Germany. He kept his audience enthralled as he shared the experiences of the various branches of Fachler clan and the different fates that befell them.

Commemoration of Jews from Krasilov and nearby towns
Sima Slutskaya, who was born in Kulchiny in 1912, shows photographs taken in 1944, in which surviving Jews from Krasilov and surrounding towns, including herself, and people from nearby villages were visiting the three mass graves located near Manyevtsy village in a forest, where the Jews from Krasilov and nearby towns were murdered in the summer of 1942. Slutskaya recounts that she too had been taken to be shot but managed to escape while most of her family were murdered at the site.
