CANADIAN PACIFIC S.S. PRINCESS PATRICIA CRUISE SHIP TO ALASKA PROMOTIONAL FILM 45084
“The ‘Princess’ Way to Alaska” is a 1960s color film presented by Canadian Pacific, the “world’s most complete transportation system,” and encourages travelers to rely on the company’s Princess Patricia cruise ship when planning a visit to Alaska or the Yukon. The luxury liner is introduced at mark 00:30, with the narrator explaining the vessel has been designed specifically for voyages to Alaska. The itinerary takes the passenger from Vancouver, British Columbia, northward to Prince Rupert, and on to Alaska with stops at Ketchikan, Wrangell, Juneau, and Skagway, before traveling to Carcross in the Yukon Territory. The film offers some of the highlights in each stop, including the new post office in Vancouver and the city’s calm waters of the Pacific Ocean, log-rolling events, and traditional bagpipers. The ship is shown again at mark 02:35, as the film takes the viewers onboard with scenes of the vessel’s luxury, followed by images of various activities held on the ship and majestic sights passed along the way. Following a sight-seeing tour at Prince Rupert, shown at mark 07:00, the cruise ship takes its passengers to Ketchikan, Alaska, shown at mark 12:23, with images of many of the totem poles that stand on the land. (Including one, at mark 14:13, honoring Abraham Lincoln.) Passing small ice flows at mark 14:55, the cruise ship approaches Juneau at mark 15:10, with its many hotels and banking facilities, as well as the Mendenhall Glacier, introduced at mark 16:30. Following more scenic views of Skagway (“Mecca of the gold rush days”), the travelogue takes its viewer to the White Pass and Yukon Railway for a trip to Carcross in the Yukon Territory, as more scenic views flash across the screen. After a show by cancan dancers near mark 26:25, the ship makes its southbound voyage back to Vancouver and the film reaches an end.
The Princess Patricia was the first ship to operate for Princess Cruises, one of the largest lines in the world when she was built 1949. Stanley MacDonald chartered a Canadian Pacific ferry in 1965. He intended to monopolize the winter cruising market by operating out of Los Angeles and cruising to Acapulco, Mexico. This is the period where most ships would be laid up.
The second of Canadian Pacific Line's two 356 foot long, 56 foot wide, 5,611/6,062 ton (1963 refit) Fairfield Shipyards, Scotland-built west Pacific coast steam turbine passenger ships, the SS Princess Patricia was named in 1949 for Princess Patricia of Connaught. She was retired from Alaskan cruising services in 1978, used as a floating hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia for their 1986 World's Fair before being finally scraped in Taiwan in 1995.

Root 66 Cabin Rental in Yukon Territory
This is a small cabin that we use to rent out here at Root 66 situated 20 minutes north of Whitehorse just 5 km from the Takhini Hotsprings pool, restaurant, and campground here in Yukon Territory. I built the cabin with the help of my younger brother Shaun about a dozen years ago. I also built the timber frame picnic shelter, cedar hot tub,underwater aluminum stove, scribed log picnic table and stone work stove. The cabin was for rent throughout the year and it's since been sold and moved down the road 20 + miles, but that's another video all of it's own that I'll get together and post one of these days. My new motto is if I build it, it will move. I think I should just build things with wheels under it in preparation for the inevitable journey down the road. I synced one of my most recent songs to the video and my music is also available for digital download at danielhalen.com. I'm done building cabins and the like for now and concentrating on making more music instead of sawdust : - )
Cheers

Smugglers' Jeep Gets Stuck On US-Mexico Border
Two suspected smugglers get their vehicle stuck on a makeshift ramp, placed on a fence in US-Mexico Border.
While stories involving border crossing are often tragic, every now and then you'll find an amusing one.
Two suspected smugglers who were allegedly trying to cross the border from Mexico into California near Arizona created a unique and alternative way to drive right under United States border patrol agents' noses. The suspected smugglers recently drove a Jeep over their own makeshift ramp, which was built over a 14 foot high border fence near the Imperial Sand Dunes in Southern California.
The vehicle's two occupants fled the scene, running back into Mexico when border officials made their way towards them. The Jeep apparently got stuck and began teetering while at the top of the ramp.
The two suspects remain at large and the SUV turned out to be empty but officials believe it was probably filled with marijuana before it got stuck. Last year a similar incident occurred.
In April, border agents discovered a truck that had ramps built onto it. The vehicle was driven up and over the fence, however the driver and passengers were caught.

=======
The Yukon Electrical Company Limited (YECL) is an investor-owned private electrical utility based in Whitehorse, Yukon, serving most Yukon communities and Lower Post, British Columbia.
The company, founded in 1901, is owned by ATCO of Alberta. Through mergers and acquisitions, Yukon Electrical extended to serve most communities in Yukon. Though it owns one hydro-electric and a number of diesel generating facilities of its own, it purchases most of its power wholesale from the Yukon Energy Corporation and distributes it to consumers. From 1987 to 1997, it operated the services of Yukon Energy under contract, but in 1997, the Yukon government chose not to renew the arrangement; Yukon Energy established its own offices for management and customer service, while YECL continued to operate its own facilities.
The activities of YECL in Yukon communities are as follows:

Mad Mike drifting Crown Range in New Zealand
The Crown Range, New Zealand. 47 corners, 1076 metres elevation, 10.4km long. The country's highest paved roadway. For a moment in time it belongs to one man, Mike Whiddett. The moment will become, the drive of a lifetime.
► Watch the Behind the Scenes Clip:
► Check out the best motorsports action on Red Bull TV:
The former state highway cuts a path between Queenstown and Wanaka. It is a short cut, which has long been a route for travellers. The first track dates back to the early gold rush days. The road now is still one of the most demanding and technical drives of the country.
The drive for Mike Whiddett will be challenging and faster than most. For the first time in NZ motorsport history, the road has been closed across three sections for a unique filming opportunity. The New Zealand-based international drift driver has a chance to push his bespoke quad-rotor rotary engine car to new limits on a completely clear road. The road closure signs are rolled out; it is time for Mad Mike to Conquer the Crown.
On paper, the first section of the road appears to be the trickiest. Seven consecutive hairpin turns on a near-vertical mountainside climb give the Switchbacks their name. The second section is all about speed. Whiddett pulls sixth gear along the Crown Terrace and winds the Mazda RX7's 750 horsepower engine out to its redline. He hits 232km/h before slowing, fleetingly pulling on the handbrake to lock the rear wheels before stomping back on the accelerator. The tyres erupt back into a spinning frenzy; black marks the bitumen. This is drifting nirvana in its purest form.
The run up to the Crown Summit is a fusion of high, medium and low speed bends, created to attack sideways. With barriers flanking the road at one side and exposed banks at the other, it mimics the mountain touge roads that the Japanese forefathers of the sport originally, and illicitly, ran by moonlight. The margin for error is slim here, but Whiddett never backs off as the final forty-seventh corner passes by in a blur.
I think drifters have an innate ability to slip from reality when driving up a road like the Crown Range in normal circumstances. We imagine drifting through the turns, the gear changes, the footwork, the hand brake and of course stomping on the gas. So for me, having the opportunity to get behind the wheel of my machine, push it to the limit and conquer the Crown is a dream turned into a reality, says Whiddett.
The Crown: conquered.

Keppoch Mountain bike - East Climb West Descent
Keppoch Mountain, an old ski hill 10 minutes west of Antigonish, NS is a small mecca for mountain biking. There are long flowy downhill rides, tight, rooty and bumpy technical single tracks along with a good helping of gnar on the downhill runs. This is a simple preview of an easier ride, up the East Summit trail, probably the vest climb route, then a quick descent down the West Summit trail, a fast and flowing double wide. Lots of props to the group that has put a lot of TLC into this place

SUMMARY
=======
Yukon ( (listen); French: [jykɔ̃]; also commonly called the Yukon) is the smallest and westernmost of Canada's three federal territories (the other two are the Northwest Territories and Nunavut). It has the smallest population of any province or territory in Canada, with 35,874 people. Whitehorse is the territorial capital and Yukon's only city.
Yukon was split from the Northwest Territories in 1898 and was originally named the Yukon Territory. The federal government's Yukon Act, which received royal assent on March 27, 2002, established Yukon as the territory's official name, though Yukon Territory is also still popular in usage and Canada Post continues to use the territory's internationally approved postal abbreviation of YT. Though officially bilingual (English and French), the Yukon Government also recognizes First Nations languages.
At 5,959 m (19,551 ft), Yukon's Mount Logan, in Kluane National Park and Reserve, is the highest mountain in Canada and the second-highest on the North American continent (after Denali in the U.S. state of Alaska). Most of Yukon has a subarctic climate, characterized by long cold winters and brief warm summers. The Arctic Ocean coast has a tundra climate.
Notable rivers include the Yukon River (after which the territory was named), as well as the Pelly, Stewart, Peel, White, and Tatshenshini rivers.
