We Went on a Poland Road Trip | Lublin, Zamość, Sandomierz
Our Poland road trip has begun as we pack our bags and hit the road.
First up we left Warsaw and headed to our first stop in our eastern road trip which was the cute little town of Kazimierz Dolny. Here we got to see what a town with 15th, 16th and 17th century buildings look like.
That night we spent exploring the night markets in Lublin before heading to bed and starting day 2 of our road trip exploring the Lublin castle and the painted church.
We then spent the rest of our day exploring the Majdanek concentration camp just outside of Lublin before making our way to Zamosc for the night.
Day 3 of our road trip began in the very colorful old town of Zamosc and we started our day nice and slow before heading to a Polish winery, met some Alpaca friends, had a tasty home cooked meal before heading onto Sandomierz.
Our final day on the road trip we headed to Krzyżtopór Castle before making our way back to Warsaw.
Where we stayed:
In Lublin - Hotel Wieniawski:
In Zamosc - Hotel Arte:
In Sandomierz - Sarmata Hotel:

The tragedy of the Jews of Klimontów
Klimontów is a village in south eastern Poland, around 29km to the west of Sandomierz. In 1914 the population was over 6,000 people, well over half of which were Jewish, today there are less than 2,000 people here. In this video essay I discuss the Jewish population in the interwar period and what happened during the Nazi German occupation.

January 26th 1934 - German-Polish Non-Aggression Pact | HISTORY CALENDAR
After the coming into force of the Versailles Treaty, Polish troops occupy the areas assigned by Germany and cut off East Prussia from the rest of the German Empire. Danzig as a free city is put under the mandate of the League of Nations. The one million Germans living in the eastern regions feel disadvantaged. The rules of the Treaty strain the German-Polish relations during the Weimar Republic. After the Nazis seizure of power Hitler takes steps towards Poland. He lets his Foreign Minister Konstantin von Neurath lead exploratory talks with Poland. On January 26th 1934 the Foreign Minister signs the German-Polish non-aggression pact. It only lasts five and a half years. This non-aggression pact just as those later agreed upon with the Soviet Union was pure tactical calculation. Hitler saw Poland as a supplier of raw materials a satellite state and wanted to weaken the political axis of Warsaw-Paris. He never gave up his plans to subjugate all of Eastern and Central Europe.

Sandomierz News from July 18, 2009. Shows of fights and camp life from the 17th century as well as old Polish customs. And all in the unique atmosphere of the ruins of Krzyżtopór Castle. This journey to the past was prepared for the tourists by the Company of Knights of the Land of Sandomierz. Everyone visiting Krzyżtopór Castle will be able to take a trip in time into the land of Sinkiewicz's trilogy. Like centuries ago, maids of honour cheered the noblemen before the fight.
Toruń: The Medieval Pearl of Poland
Toruń, Poland is a stunningly well preserved medieval city that is now protected by UNESCO. Unlike many other parts of Poland, Toruń has never been destroyed so the old town is like an outdoor museum. Taking a stroll is a lesson in the history of architecture. Founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1236 (the castle ruins are still here), Toruń is perhaps best known as the birthplace of genius Renaissance man, Nicolaus Copernicus. Amongst many things, he is credited with coming up with a heliocentric model of the universe and changing the course of science. Toruń is also known for its gingerbread, which it's been making since the fourteenth century. Toruń is a true gem within Europe that somehow isn't full of the crowds of tourists and high price tags you find in many other such fairytale towns.

Nad Wisłę ma trafić m.in. niemiecka linia produkcyjna szyb do 6 modeli samochodów. Jednak największa produkcja, bo aż do 13 modeli przeniesiona zostanie z Finlandii.

Sandomierz Business News from October 15, 2009. The production of certain products is being moved from NSG Group automotive plants located in Western Europe to Sandomierz. Among others the German windows production line for 6 car models will be brought to the city upon Vistula. However, the biggest line - for 13 models will be transfered from Finland. Sandomierz will also produce car windows which were previously made in Pilkington NSG Group in San Salvo in Italy, Sagunto in Spain as well as King Norton in England. Including the ones for luxury models of Jaguar, Land Rover, Ford and Mercedes. HISTORICAL INFORMATION:
Krzyżtopór (Polish pronunciation: [kʂɨʂˈtɔpur]) is a castle located in the village of Ujazd, Iwaniska commune, Opatów County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It was originally built by a Polish nobleman and Voivode of Sandomierz, Krzysztof Ossoliński (1587–1645).[1] The castle was partially destroyed during the Swedish invasion known as The Deluge in 1655,[2] and then reduced to ruin during the war of the Bar Confederation by the Russians in 1770
The castle was prominently featured in James Michener's 1981 novel, Poland. Several local legends also involve the castle.
Possibly HAUNTED? According to one story, the Ossoliński father and son were punished by God for their vanity, in that neither of them was able to enjoy the castle for long. Other legends claim that under the ruins there is a hidden treasury of the Ossoliński family, guarded by the ghost of Krzysztof Baldwin Ossoliński.

SANDOMIERZ , AKORDEONISTA I PIĘKNE DZIWCZYNY W 4K. POLSKA 2019
- Ork. B. Szulc
Polonez “Witaj, Królu” (lub: “Cześć ci, Polsko”) [Polonaise: Welcome, King aka Hail, Poland] Muzyka: Karol Kurpiński – Orkiestra symfoniczna (Teatru Wielkiego) pod dyr. Bronisława Szulca (The Grand Theatre Symphony Orch. dir. By Bronisław Szulc), Syrena-Electro 1929 (Polish)
NOTE: Today, on the 11th November 2019 Poland celebrates its 101st anniversary of regaining freedom (11.11.1918). Therefore, today’s uploading is devoted to the Independence day 2019. I selected the 1929 performance of the old Polish Polonaise – composed by the 19th C. Polish composer Karol Kurpiński. The Grand Theatre in Warsaw orchestra directed by the celebrated conductor Bronisław Szulc is accompanied by the slideshow of the vintage views of Polish towns and cities which ale located along the course of the Vistula River, which floats across the central part of the Polish land. Vistula is located exactly along the central meridian from south to north of Poland, from Cracow to Gdańsk as it were the spine of the country. It also passes through the historically oldest part of Poland – from Cracow, via Sandomierz, Warsaw, Płock to Toruń and Gdańsk.
I hope, Karol Kurpiński’s monumental music goes well with the views of all those medieval or even older, places. The Kurpiński’s Polonaise composed in the first decades of the 19th Century has two titles: originally it had a title “Witaj, Królu” (Welcome, King) however in the 20th century, when Poland regained freedom after 150 years of partition between Russia, Prussia and the Habsburg Empire – a new text was written and a new title “Cześć ci, Polsko” (Hail, Poland!) which was most often used ever since. Today, the tune is usually named with the both titles. I hope, you will enjoy this historical trip through the old Polish towns & music.
Christmas Around the World Series - Poland
I thought because I was Polish I would start the Christmas Around the World Series with Poland. I find that while I lived in a very ethnic family, we did adopt a lot of Western traditions as well. Both made Christmas an extra special time for me as a child and until today.

84-year-old Vermont pole vaulter to compete in Poland
(22 Mar 2019) An 84-year-old pole vaulter isn't putting her pole down anytime soon.
Flo Filion Meiler left Thursday for the World Masters Athletics Championship Indoor in Poland, where she'll compete in events including the long jump, 60-meter hurdles, 800-meter run, pentathlon and pole vault, for which she's the shoo-in.
Meiler, who's been training at the University of Vermont indoor track, literally won't have any competition in the pole vault at the World Masters Athletics Championships Indoor, which runs from March 24-31. And she'll be the only one in her age group for the sport where she reigns supreme. She set records at age 70, 75 and 80, when she did a 6-foot pole vault at an outdoor event.
Meiler says she likes the pole vault and hurdles the best. It's challenging. You really have to work at that. You have to have the upper core and you have to have timing and I just love it.
Meiler, who grew up on a dairy farm where she helped her father with daily chores says she's used to hard work. In school, she did well at basketball, and took up tap and ballroom dancing, she said. She also water skied on Lake Champlain and she and her husband, who lived in Florida for a time, later competed in the sport.
Twenty-five years ago, she took up track. She was competing in doubles tennis with her husband in a qualifying year at the Vermont Senior Games, when she was encouraged to try the long jump because competitors were needed.
Her coach Emmaline Berg can't help it but be proud.
She's incredibly serious about what she does, Berg said of Meiler. She comes in early to make sure she's warmed up enough. She goes home and stretches a lot. So, she pretty much structures her entire life around being a fantastic athlete which is remarkable at any age let alone hers.
Meiler turns 85 in June, when she heads to the National Senior Games in New Mexico. That puts her in a new age group where she hopes to set new records.
