Trip to Rethymnon - Crete (Ταξίδι στο Ρέθυμνο) by #nkours
This is a video about my trip to Rethymnon. Rethymno or Ρέθυμνο as it is called in greek is a small town in Crete where you can travel in summer. It is a town where past and present are combined in harmony. The visitor can see the venetian monuments and the ottoman mosques which are part of the citty history. Walking in the streets turist observe the characteristic alleys and of course the traditional architecture. There are two main squares, that of Four Witnesses Orthodox Church and the second one of Neratzes mosque, where now is located the Music School of Rethymnon (Conservatory).
A walk in the old city will show you the beauty and the story of Rethymno. You shall also visit the Archeological Museum and Historical and Folk Museum but first you should taste the greek traditional cuisine and enjoy greek hospitality. Moreover a turist should visit the old port with Venetian Lighthouse and of course the Venetian citadel of Fortezza which is built in 16th century to face ottoman invasions. Rethymnon is the town of inner peace. Hotels are not expensive and it's easy to find accomodation.
Hope you liked it! Please subscribe and leave comment.
Aspetto i vostri considerazioni.

Crete | The Fortress of Rethymnon city
Crete | The Fortress of Rethymnon city. All of the main towns along the Cretan coast have their own Venetian-era fortresses, and that of Rethymno is the largest. It's often called by its Italian name, the Fortezza. It's partly ruined, but not badly enough, as not to be a daunting sight in its own right.
The Fortezza stands out conspicuous at the end of a promontory jutting out from the Old Town of Rethymno. It serves as a museum with an entrance on the landward side and a competent collection of Venetian and Ottoman-era Cretan relics.
The Fortezza is within easy walking distance of the old and new towns, allthough there are some steep uphill climbs to get there. It has the added advantage of being a stone's throw away from the Rethymno central bus station.

Crete | Folklore Museum Of Chania
Crete | Folklore Museum Of Chania. The Chania Folklore Museum contains an exhaustive collection of how Cretans lived before globalization.
From cooking utensils to embroideries and farming tools, from folk musical instruments to clothes, it's all there.
The greater part of the collection consists of both the agricultural profession consisting of ploughing, sowing, harvesting, threshing and treading grapes, and the traditional household life, such as preparations for the daily meal, weaving on the loom, or the processing of raw materials for embroidery and weaving.
The museum is not hard to get to, being to the west of the Old Harbour next to the remains of the Venetian castle.
That's within easy walking distance from the main cafes and shops.

Crete | Chania Historical Archives Museum
Crete | Chania Historical Archives Museum. Crete is not only known for its ancient and mediaeval history. There's a good deal of more modern history on view, as well, and the Historical Archives Museum in Chania is one place where some of it can be viewed.
Crete was joined to Greece only about a hundred years ago, in 1913. But since the early 19th century there had been constant agitation for independence from Ottoman Turkish rule.
There's a lot of documentation from that period, especially in the first decade of the 20th century when this agitation came to a head.
The museum is housed in an unobtrusive but elegant neoclassical mansion. Admittedly, it's scholars and historians who will be most interested in the contents. But the ordinary tourist, too, can get a lot out of it by simply imagining you're back in a gentler age -- before tourism.
The Museum is open weekdays from 9 am to 1 pm and is closed on weekends.

SUMMARY
=======
Crete (Greek: Κρήτη, Kríti ['kriti]; Ancient Greek: Κρήτη, Krḗtē) is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands, the 88th largest island in the world and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, after Sicily, Sardinia, Cyprus, and Corsica. Crete and a number of surrounding islands and islets constitute the region of Crete (Greek: Περιφέρεια Κρήτης), one of the 13 top-level administrative units of Greece. The capital and the largest city is Heraklion. As of 2011, the region had a population of 623,065.
Crete forms a significant part of the economy and cultural heritage of Greece, while retaining its own local cultural traits (such as its own poetry and music). It was once the centre of the Minoan civilisation (c. 2700–1420 BC), which is the earliest known civilisation in Europe. The palace of Knossos lies in Crete.

Crete | Museum of Typography in Chania
Crete | Museum of Typography in Chania. Greek museums are not all about ancient statues and coins. There are plenty of museums dealing with more recent attainments as well, and one of these is the Typography Museum in the town of Chania.
The exhibit contains typesetting benches where the typesetter would compose the text of a newspaper, using cast iron type, dating from Gutenberg time in the 15th century to the beginning of the 20th century. You can also see the machinery used for printing techniques such as lithography, offset lithography, wood engraving, copper engraving and silk screen printing, that are all presented in detail in specially designed showcases.
This museum is housed in an airy hall in a small industrial zone outside the city limits, and so may be a little hard to track down. Taxi drivers could be able to help you there, if not your hotel concierge.
