Dornoch & The Historylinks Museum - Scotland Holiday Day 4
Day 4 of our holiday and after the long drive yesterday we decided to have a short drive day. I asked for ideas on the motorhome madness group on facebook and a lady suggested The Historylinks Museum in Dornoch.
Not knowing what to expected we ventured along and I have to say very impressed with the little museum. The volunteers are very helpful and the quiz kept my kids amused for over an hour.
After leaving the museum we had a look around Dormoch and had lunch in the Old Courtroom. Food was very nice if a little expensive. Overall a good day again …..

John O’Groats & Dunnet Head - Scotland Holiday Day 3
Day 3 of our holiday in the Highlands and bylands of Scotland. We ventured as far as we could North today up to John O’Groats and then across to Dunnet Head, as far North as you can go on the British Mainland without getting wet.
Please excuse the wind noise on parts of the video it was blowing somewhat, especially at Dunnet Head. I wanted to venture around the lighthouse but wasn’t able to.
I did notice a village just outside of Wick offering a FREE camper and motorhome stop with electric hook up, it looked just like an Aire, nice to see. There was a donation box which if I ever have a chance to use I would happily put £5 into.
Busy Day on a Light Railway
During the twentieth century several standard gauge light railways filled the gaps where main line companies saw little chance of making money. Local organisations were formed to run their own branch lines with fewer restrictions than were imposed on the main line network. These light railways lacked the glamour of the main lines but what they lacked in glamour they made up for with charm.
The local railways seldom attracted the attention of outsiders, all to often they also failed to attract the attention of passengers and freight shippers either, so they rarely paid a dividend to their shareholders and many went out of business when faced with increasing competition from road transport.
One such undertaking was the Foxbaile Light Railway, operating a typical eclectic mix of elderly second and third hand equipment but also an early pioneer of lightweight diesel railcars. A film of this little known railway has recently been discovered in the archives of Blackcloud Railways and has been copied here on YouTube to show how the line operated.
