This summer had plenty of beautiful opportunities to feed my passion for Japanese History. Coming into this beautiful muesum I was blown away at the architecture, details to design, and the layout of everything. I enjoyed the displays of the lords of the Sagara clan. I enjoyed the recovered pieces of artifacts detailing the development in technology in the region. So many secrets and clues about life in the time period of ancient Japan exist in this gorgeous space. I highly recommend stopping here to be surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Sagara at the height of their power.
Sphere of Influence Season 2 Ep.004 - Battle at Hitoyoshi Castle
KOEI Tecmo's Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence available on Steam.
Continuing our expansionism, we need to take Hitoyoshi Castle before the nearest of our main rivals manages to take it, as it is an incredibly important place to get. Castles are much more important than fortresses, so it was a great place to grab.

Nabeya Interview
This interview was nervous but enjoyable. The owner of the hotel apologized in advance for her limited ability in English and I returned the favor about my limited ability in Japanese. However I was impressed with the history of her hotel, the current ownership and history puts it at 60 years younger than the United States, however the businesses that are older pre-date 1776 with the Sagara clan. Japan as a nation is much older than my own and the beauty and depth of it is astounding. As you walk into the lobby you see the photos and artifacts from just before the Meiji era as well as lineage of ownership. The hotel sitting on the Kumagawa river across from the Hitoyoshi Castle Park ruins is amazng all day long. She assured me the views are better in the fall and the spring's cherry blossom festival. For those with tattoos she requests they use the private bath. The small yet intimate eating area has a nice variety of local delicacies. She also said that the fireworks festivals are amazing from the side of the hotel facing Hitoyoshi station or from the back balcony facing over the castle ruins.
This place is my destination hotel for 2019! Please join me on a awesome adventure! Please like Comment and Subscribe!
Hitoyoshi.m4v
A video of the train rides to and from Hitoyoshi City. Includes a clip of the automaton sequence of the clock in front of Hitoyoshi Station. I tried to use clips where you couldn't see people's faces as much as possible. Also, I decided not to put music over it so you could hear the sounds of the modern, electric train versus the old steam engine. My brief trip consisted of more than just riding these trains and watching the clock, but that is beyond the scope of this video.

Nabeya Honkan
This is a magical place in my soul It fed my curosity about the history of the Hitoyoshi area as well as the beauty of the Sagara dynasty. It has artificats as old as the Samurai Legends in the Lobby display. The warm and inviting personality of the building is only hiding its inner beauty. The Onsens are the stuff of legends I would love to visit regularly. The food served for Lunch was amazing. I want to stay here upon my next visit. I truly believe it is a charm and magic that is deserving of its reputation. The owners embraced the interview with hesitation and humble outlooks but laughter was the key that they enjoyed it. The Hotel sits on the banks of the Kumagawa river and has views of Hitoyoshi Castle Ruins park and the river on one side but on the other the charm quaint mysteries of the city. It is a experience that everyone should have twice. I would love to visit the place in the Spring around Cherry Blossom Festivals.
DYA717 Japan Alps w Air & Sea May 16, 2016 Kurobe Gorge 8 minutes
We went HE-LE on a bladder breaking 1+ hour ride from the APA Hotel Toyama to Kurobe Gorge and the village of Unazuki Onsen. This onsen is supposedly one of the best in the Toyama prefecture. It is in a nice green valley. Back about 80 years ago or so, they started building the Kurobe Dam. They built a railroad to carry the workers, equipment and other stuffs deep into the valley, up the mountains. When they completed the dam, they renovated the trains to carry tourists up and down that valley. We rode that train roughly ¾ ways up, 50 minutes or so, took a short break. During the break, after a short walk, we saw a little cut in the steep mountainside with permanent snow. There was another site to see but we didn’t have time to walk further. While we waited for the train down, some of the members stuck around this food stand. I called da wahine KA-N-BA-N MU-SU-ME which I think means a pretty woman who attracts customers to the establishment. She giggled and hoisted the bottle of sake which encouraged the men folks to buy more sake. She had on display 3 bottles of probably the best sake made in the Toyama area, all costing 200-yen per sake cup. So a few of us tried all 3 for 600-yen. She gave us WA-RA-BI which is young fern leaves gathered in the mountainside for chaser. Then, aw shucks, it was time to go back down so we caught the train, another 50 minutes of so returned to the Unazuki Onsen village. I took plenty photos in the valley and this is the boring, 8 minutes of Youtube video incorporating all my photos.
