Hitsujiyama Park offers a panoramic view of Chichibu city and is home to a spectacular new sight, Moss Pink Hill.
The moss pink plantings are among the largest in the Kanto region and are designed to create a spectacular color show.
Nine varieties of moss pink, some 400,000 plants, cover 17,600 square meters.
The moss pink is in full bloom from mid April to early May.
The Chichibu Specialty Fair is held next to Moss Pink Hill during the blooming season and a host of events are held around the city. --Chichibu Area Tourism Organization

Hitsujiyama Park is located in the city of Chichibu in Saitama Prefecture (Wikipedia Article), about one and a half hours outside of Tokyo. The city of Chichibu is best known for its farms, gardens, and night festival. Hitsujiyama Park is well-known for Shibazakura, known as ‘Moss Pink’, which are flowers that grow during Cherry Blossom season.

I believe that learning about different cultures help children broaden their learning spectrum and traveling to different places catalyses this process. Since we are in Japan currently; I try to explore opportunities wherein I can help our daughter learn about Japanese Culture, Festivals & Events.
One such event which I learnt bout was; The Fuji Shibazakura Festival (富士芝桜まつり, Fuji Shibazakura Matsuri); which is one of the best and most popular occasions nationwide to see shibazakura (pink moss or phlox moss in English). The festival is typically held from mid April through early June.
The venue of the festival is located about three kilometers south of Lake Motosuko in the Fuji Five Lakes area, offering breathtaking views of vast fields of shibazakura, with Mount Fuji in the backdrop on clear days.
Since we are in Tokyo we took a bus from Tokyo Station to Lake Kawaguchiko and from there we took Shibazakura Line to reach the venue. Unfortunately, we chose to visit the festival in Golden Week Holiday so it turned out to be very crowded and had log waiting queues. But, we also got lucky and experienced TAIKO DRUMMING (Japanese Native Drum).
If you are in Japan during the spring time and want some NATURE DOZE, then do visit LAKE KAWAGUCHIKO and also embrace FUJI SAN closely.

Chichibu Hitsujiyama Park
Hitsujiyama Park (Hitsujiyama Kōen) is a park in Chichibu, known for its beautiful moss pink fields that typically come into bloom around late April to early May and attract droves of visitors. The Hill of Pink Moss fields are located at the southern end of the park and have multiple types of moss pink (or shibazakura) spread over the undulating fields to give them hues of pink, purple and white. The flowers have been planted strategically to make colorful patterns that make for quite the display.
