Beautiful Sakura in Hiyoriyama Park (日和山公園, Hiyoriyama Kōen)
Located in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture located in a hill (56 meters) above the sea level, you can enjoy amazing views over the city and coast of the Pacific Ocean. The park is known as the top cherry blossom spot.
The park was one of the precious refugee sites in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, we visited the park this spring and loved the view and the Sakura.

This is the fourth episode chronicling my adventures abroad in Japan and Vietnam in September and October 2017. I spent a few days in Sendai in the Tohoku region, wanting to visit areas that were affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

On the last part of our tour, we visit the Common-Ship Hashidori Festival and take a look at an artistic kokeshi exhibition. We take a walk on the manga road then we go to Hiyoriyama Park and learn about different things.

Ishinomaki's deadly vegetable market
I am invited by the 44th Regiment Third Brigade of the Japanese army to ride with and film the collection of bodies left behind from the tsunami. The 44th are located in Fukushima and are indefinitely based in Ishinomaki to provide emergency support for the devastated town. According to Kenichi Niizaki, the army's media representative, there are over a thousand bodies that have been collected in Ishinomaki. On March 21st, the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shinbun listed the number of missing in the city of Ishinomaki at 1400. Riding in the back of the troop transport with the soldiers, the topic that there were two Americans among the bodies came up, but the language barrier made it difficult for me to be sure that I understood the situation correctly. Later, I would find out one of those bodies was twenty-four-year-old Taylor Anderson, who was living in Japan and teaching English. Listed on the Ishinomaki police department's list of people whose bodies have been found, there is a seventy-eight-year-old man who appears to be an American. He was found in the town just next door to Ishinomaki. This may have been the man the soldiers were discussing. But, despite his American sounding name, I have yet to verify that the man is an American.
Once the bodies were collected, they were then taken back to a vegetable market that has been turned into a makeshift morgue and is managed by the Ishinomaki police department. Even though the army had given me permission to film, once I stepped into the morgue, I was now under police jurisdiction and was asked to stop filming, immediately. During the brief moments before I was asked to stop filming, I captured these images.

Hiyoriyama 日和山 is a famous location for cherryblossom in Ishinomaki city. After going around the city, it was almost unreal to see the beautiful cherryblossom blooming so beautifully on Hiyoriyama.
It might be little difficult to see, but up on this mountain, it seems nothing has changed, but looking down the city, you can see how tsunami wiped out the city. The previous video we uploaded shows how devastating tsunami was in this area, but just up the mountain, everything was fine. People leave the flowers for the loved ones who were lost or still missing after the disaster.

at the end of the video is Minamihama area, here is severely damaged by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. it is still reconstruction work now. i got lost on my way the latter (-_-;)
Missing children in tsunami-hit Japanese city - no comment
One year on, the search for missing children continues in the tsunami-hit city of Ishinomaki in northern Japan. Most of the missing students' bodies were near the school in the weeks after the quake, and in one case 5 months after the disaster.
