Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum-Hanoi, Vietnam (With Tour Guide History Lesson)
It was eerie to see the dead body of Ho Chi Minh lying in state after 45 years. There wasn't much light inside and there were guards everywhere so any chance of sneaking some video of the body went out the window. My guide eloquently explains the life and death of Ho Chi Minh, former Prime Minister and President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam).

Ho Chi Minh (House, Mausoleum, Museum), Hanoi - Vietnam 4K Travel Channel
Ho Chí Minh was born as son of a teacher in poor conditions on May 19, 1890. But already in his early youth, he developed an aversion to the French colonialists. A peasant demonstration in Hue, where he acted as interpreter, ended in the hail of bullets of French soldiers. As rebel he was expelled from school and went to Saigon, where he signed up on a ship to get to know France. During the next years he also went to New York, Boston and London, before he returned to France again. There he joined the Socialist Party of France. He and his comrades-in-arms published a petition in 1918 that demanded more rights for the colonies in Indochina. In 1920 Ho Chi Minh was among the founding members of the French Communist Party. After a stay in Moscow, where he studied at the Communist University, he went to China. At the Whampoa Military Academy in Guangzhou he gave lectures on politics. Later, he was a leading coauthor of a guide for communist insurgencies. Afterwards, he was sentenced to death in absentia by the French colonial authorities.
In 1941, he traveled back to Vietnam and founded the Viet Minh, the League for the Independence of Vietnam. They fought against the Japanese and French occupying powers. Supported by the national Chinese, Ho Chi Minh exclaimed the democratic republic of Vietnam in Hanoi on September 2nd, 1945 after the Viet Minh had taken the cities of Hanoi, Hue and Saigon.
With the bombardment of Haiphong by French troops where 6,000 civilians have become victims, the Indochina war began in 1954 and ended with the departure of the French. The Geneva Geneva Conference brought a cease-fire, which provided a division of Vietnam at the 17th parallel. After two years, a government for the entire Vietnam should be elected.
But the US never felt tied to the agreement and thwarted the election because they feared that whole Southeast Asia could become Communist. Ho Chi Minh was always the driving force for the unification of Vietnam. When the United States intervened actively in 1965 in the fighting, which led to the Vietnam War, Ho Chi Minh planned the Ho Chi Minh trail through Laos. This traffic system, also known as Truong Son road ensured the military supplies of the South to the North. Ho Chi Minh died in 1969 and has not experienced the independence of a united Vietnam.

Vietnam War Remnants Museum-Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City)
The War Remnants Museum in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) features photographic exhibits and war memorabilia from the Vietnam War and the story is told from the point of view of the Communist North Vietnamese government. As I say in the video, it's best not to eat before viewing some of the photographs, which can be quite graphic.
The museum originally opened in 1975 as the Exhibition House for US and Puppet Crimes located in the premises of the former United States Information Agency building. In 1990, the name changed to Exhibition House for Crimes of War and Aggression, dropping both U.S. and Puppet. In 1995, following the normalization of diplomatic relations with the United States and end of the US embargo from a year before, the references to war crimes and aggression were dropped from the museum's title as well; it became the War Remnants Museum It is one of the most popular museums in Vietnam, attracting approximately half a million visitors every year. According to the museum's own estimates, about two-thirds of these are foreigners.

The building was built in 1885 – 1890, designed by the French architect Foulhoux was built between 1885 – 1890. It was designed by Alfred Foulhoux, a French architect, blending the Occidental style with Oriental style. The building was originally intended for use as the Commercial museum exhibiting native specialities, but it became the Cochinchina governor’s palace.
In 1945, the building belonged to five owners. The Japanese fascist government took over the French colonial government in March, Yoshio Minoda, the Japanese Governor occupied the palace, then Japanese government entrusted it to the regime of Bao Dai – Tran Trong Kim. The King’s special envoy of the Cochichina, Nguyen Vaên Sam used as private residence for a short time. On September 10 th 1945, B.W Roe Lieutenant – colonel (British mission) occupied legally the palace so the Southern Provisional Administrative committee’s headquarter had to move to Doc Ly palace (nowadays is Ho Chi Minh city’s people council).

After Geneva treaty 1954, Ngo Dinh Diem regime used the building as Quoc Khach palace. On February 27 th 1962, the Unification palace bombed, Ngo Dinh Diem used the palace as the presidential palace. Twenty months later, November 1st 1963, Saigon troops took over Ngo Dinh Diem regime. The Unification palace already built in 1962, this building was the Supreme court. Since 1975, it became Revolution museum of Ho Chi Minh City, it has been Ho Chi Minh city museum since December 13 th 1999.

HO CHI MINH MUSEUM HANOI, HO CHI MINH CITY MUSEUM SAIGON VIETNAM
VV 2004 TRIP The Ho Chi Minh Museum (08.00 to 11.30 and 14.00 to 16.30, closed Monday and Friday p.m.)
A large white building, innovatively -designed and built with Russian aid, houses Vietnam’s definitive museum dedicated to the life and times of the great leader. Documents, photographs, artefacts and tableaux are well designed to trace Ho’s passage from birth to death, and the evolution of his philosophy and vision for Vietnam’s future.
Unfortunately, nearly everything is in Vietnamese and only a few of the museum staff speak anything other than their mother tongue, so an experienced guide fluent in your language is essential to make sense of it.
Ho Chi Minh City Museum
Housed in the former building of the Government of Cochinchina, the Ho Chi Minh City Museum (formerly the Revolutionary Museum) contains artifacts, such as weapons, uniforms, medals and old photos, from the period of Communist struggle against the French and the Americans. Unfortunately, the exhibits are only labelled in Vietnamese but some are self-explanatory. Outside the museum is a collection of military hardware including a tank and a helicopter.

Ho Chi Minh Museum and One Pillar Pagoda 9/27/2016
Hanoi, Vietnam
September 27, 2016
The Ho Chi Minh Museum was constructed in May 1990 on the occasion of President Ho Chi Minh’s 100th birth anniversary. It was built for the Vietnamese people to commemorate their struggle and victories during his era and to show their deep gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh.
The museum has several sections and a thematic exhibition space to showcase Ho Chi Minh’s life and revolutionary career, artifacts, artworks, documentary films and over 25,000 publications about President Ho and the Vietnamese revolution.
The thousand-year-old One Pillar Pagoda beside the Ho Chi Minh Museum is a Buddhist temple built from wood on a single stone pillar during the time of Emperor Ly Thai Tong. The design resembling a lotus blossom is a symbol for purity and the shrine inside the pagoda is dedicated to Vietnamese Buddhist deity Quan Am.
One Pillar Pagoda is one of Vietnam’s most iconic and most revered temples. It has been destroyed during the evacuation of the French Union forces in 1954 and was rebuilt afterwards.

I love Hanoi. It’s one of my favorite cities on earth. For many different reasons but first because it’s so alive. In the video today I’m focusing on the parts of Hanoi that have temples and museums. The Ho Chi Minh museum in particular is an amazing thing to walk around, but the other museums are too. I was fortunate to wander through a few temples in Hanoi Vietnam that date back to the occupation of Vietnam by China! Talk about old. So if you’re planning to visit Vietnam, please check out the Ho Chi Minh museum and some of the amazing temples.
