Hou Kouen (豊公園) Park in Early Spring (Nagahama city, Shiga Pref., Japan)
My hometown is somewhere of north area of Shiga prefecture (滋賀県) in Japan, the name of which is Nagahama (長浜市). Nagahama is well known as the first place where Hideyoshi Hashiba (羽柴 秀吉), previous name of Hideyoshi Toyotomi (豊臣 秀吉), who was one of the heroes in the age of provincial wars of Japan (戦国時代), built the first castle of his own. It was in 1573 AD. The cite of the castle became a city park of Hou Kouen (豊公園), named after the Tycoon. I was able to have a chance to walk around the park on an extremely fine day in last week, Feb., 26, 2013.

Welcome to Naghama City (short ver.)
Nagahama and Maibara of Shiga Prefecture are conveniently located in terms of public transportation, and by Shinkansen it takes only 30 minutes from Osaka and Nagoya and 20 minutes from Kyoto. Nagahama and Maibara are located on the shore of Lake Biwa, which is the largest lake in Japan and the third-oldest lake in the world. The two cities are proud of their noble natural landscapes and old-town scenery remaining from the time of samurai warriors.
Beer in Japan
The four major beer producers in Japan are Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo, and Suntory producing mainly pale-colored light lagers with an alcohol strength of around 5.0% ABV. Pilsner style lagers are the most commonly produced beer style in Japan, but beer-like beverages, made with lower levels of malts called happoshu or non-malt happōsei have captured a large part of the market, as tax is substantially lower on these products.
Microbreweries have also gained increasing popularity since deregulation in 1994, supplying distinct tasting beers in a variety of styles that seek to match the emphasis on craftsmanship, quality, and ingredient provenance often associated with Japanese food.
