Cab tour and epic chase on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway!
Today I headed north and Trey Holland and Jordan Cavinee headed south to Nelsonville, Ohio. We arrived before the train departed at noon, so we got a tour of the cab of their GP7 # 5833. Soon after Jordan boarded trailing GP10 701 and missed out on what would be a great chase, nabbing the train at 7 locations out and back!

Hocking Valley Scenic Railway, First Steam In 19 Years!
Hocking Valley Scenic Railway in Nelsonville Ohio. First steam powered locomotive train in 19 years! Followed by a diesel. An old EMD GP10 diesel locomotive pulled the train back to prevent a runaround move or reversing move. This steam train ran 11 miles from Nelsonville to East Whatever. The train returned being pulled by a GP10 diesel. Three cameras were used to film this and of course the guitar is played by Jawtooth. Railroad radio 161.355 Filmed October 17, 2015 in southern Ohio. Steam in the Hocking Valley: Hocking Valley Scenic Railway's #3
At 11 a.m. on November 4th, 2018 the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway's steam locomotive number 3, pulled its third train to eastern Logan of the weekend. This weekend marked the first appearance of number 3 in three years to the rails. Constructed in 1869, this road bed was built for the Columbus & Hocking Valley RR (later Columbus, Hocking Valley & Toledo, then Hocking Valley Railway, finally to Chesapeake & Ohio in 1930) to access the coalfields of Nelsonville. Seeing steam back on these rails was very special, especially after three years of no service. This locomotive is reportedly the only standard gauge steam locomotive in operating condition in Ohio. Though nothing remains of the rolling stock or locomotives of the Hocking Valley Railway days, the scenic railway still paints their stock in similar fashion and name. Remarkable to think there was a time several steam locomotives per day passed by this exact location this video was shot at. Let alone the decades steam and rail ruled the United States.

On this day they decided to run a third round trip train since the first two sold out. We rode the third train. The sun was out during the first train only and the temperature was about 50F. Riding on the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway alongside a section of the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway in Nelsonville, Ohio. My flash card ran out of space right as the engine was entering the garage at the end.
A commenter on one of my previous videos asked if trains still ran on these tracks. Here's the answer in video form.
Hocking valley scenic railroad(1)
Went on a train ride on 11/3/19 at the hocking valley scenic railroad. We where scheduled to ride behind a 0-6-0 Baldwin steam locomotive but a axle went bad so instead we got to ride behind this GP10 in the beautiful B&O coach car. It was a enjoyable ride with beautiful scenery especially since the trees where in their fall color
