Geography
Hogenakkal waterfall is located in south India in Dharmpuri district Tamilnadu on Kaveri river.
It is 180km from Bangalore and 46km from Dharmapuri.
sometimes its called as Niagara of India because of its nature.
The Kaveri is considered to form at Talakaveri in the Brahmagiri hills in the Western Ghats of south India and gathers momentum as the land drops in elevation. It becomes larger as various tributaries feed into it on the way down. At Hogenakkal, the Kaveri, now a large river, drops and creates numerous waterfalls as the water cuts through the rocky terrain. In places the water falls as much as 20 m (66 ft) and is said to sound like continual thunder.
Travel
One can reach by its own car from Bangalore via Hosur (thats shortest route)
Other people (outside Banglore) can come to Dharmapuri which is connected by road (Bangalore,Chennai,Salem) and railway (Mumbai,Bangalore,Ernakulam,Madurai,Coimbtore,pudducherry,Mysore)
From dharmapuri TNSRTC bus is available.
Boating
Boating in Hogenakkal is allowed during the dry-season as the water falls are not strong enough to disrupt the passage of the boats. This is the main source of income for these boat operators.
Food
One can get fresh fish from river from local vendors.
You can get typical south Indian style tea/coffee.
Rice dal,coconut is also available.
Residence.
Hotels are available near bus stand.But statying in Bangalore/Dharmapuri is preferrable for outside people other than Bangalore.
Oil massage
Oil massage is available.But Personally I didnt like all that,so avoiding here to write and not included in video too.

The Government of Tamil Nadu made a proposal to convert the falls into providing drinking water for the state.

At a distance of 47 km from Dharmapuri, 88 km from Hosur, 85 km from Salem, 146 km from Bangalore, 345 km from Chennai, 180 km from Mysore, 114 km from Yercaud and 217 km from Coimbatore, Hogenakkal Falls is a waterfall in on the Kaveri (or Cauvery) River located in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu. It is a major waterfalls near Bangalore and also one of the best waterfalls in India, sometimes referred to as the 'Niagara of India'.
Hogenakkal is also one of the best waterfalls and one of the wonderful tourist places to visit near Bangalore & Chennai. When the River Kaveri enters the Tamil Nadu border after winding its way through the state of Karnataka, it descends down the lofty landscape forming the Hogenakkal Waterfalls. The Carbonatite rocks found near the waterfall are one of the oldest in the world. The two Kannada words 'Hoge' means 'Smoke' and 'Kal' means 'Rocks' give meaning to the word Hogenakkal as Smoky Rocks. It is also called as Marikottayam by the people of Tamil Nadu.
The falls has about 14 channels with drops varying between 15 & 65 ft. To reach the surroundings of waterfalls one needs to take a boat-ride (there is no land access). Coracle riding is one of the main attractions here which is allowed during the monsoon and winter season. Boating is usually stopped in peak monsoons.
Hogenakkal is also the good place to try out your swimming skills. The water is quite challenging. Tourists can also go for trekking on the nearby surrounding hills. The water from the fall flows towards the Mettur Dam which is also known as the Stanley Reservoir.
The falls are less than 1 km from Hogenakkal Bus Station. There are no good food points near the falls, except simple snacks, soft drinks & fish fry. If possible, try to pack your food near Hogenakkal Bus Station or Dharmapuri. There are many lodges and mid-range options of accommodation in Dharmapuri.
The Nearest airport is Bangalore International Airport about 216 km from Hogenakal Falls. Dharmapuri is the nearest railway station, which is about 47 km from Hogenakal. It is connected by rail with Bangalore, Mumbai, Trivandrum, Tuticorin, Coimbatore, Salem, Nagarcoil, Mysore, Pondicherry, Tirunelveli and Ernakulum. Dharmapuri is the nearest major Bus station to Hogenakkal. It has buses from Bangalore, Mysore, Salem, Coimbatore, Chennai, Trivandrum, Kochi, Ooty, Madurai and Hyderabad.
The best time to visit Hogenakkal Falls is from July to October while the peak season is from August to October. Usually it takes one half day to visit Hogenakkal Falls.

Hanging bridge at hgenakkal is yet another famous location at hogenakkal where you get the spectacular view of the waterfall from the hanging bridge.
Entry ticket will cost 5rs for adult and 10 rs for camera.
We headed towards coracle ride station after visiting hanging bridge.
As soon as you get down from the car you will be invited by a lot of people wearing blue colored shirts. They are the official coracle riders of Hogenakkal falls.
You need to collect ticket for coracle at the ticket counter which will cost you 750 rs. A single coracle can hold 4 adults and 1 kid (between 7 to 10 yrs old).
Coracle boat man will provide you life jacket (cost of which is included in the ticket price)
Coracle ride goes through the falls and he will also take you to the Karnataka Tamilnadu border through Kavery river.
Overall it is full of fun and worth the money. Coracle ride is a must try activity at Hogenakkal waterfalls.

An adventurous trip to world famous Hogenakkal Falls in Tamil Nadu. Kaveri River falling down the lanes and forming beautiful waterfalls. In June the water level is low which attracts coracle rides for the tourists. This place is also named as Niagara Falls of India. In August it is full of water and attracts tourists for a scenic view of iconic waterfalls. Hogenakkal is 150 KM from Bengaluru.

Hogennakal Falls is one of the most beautiful places situated in Tamil Nadu on the Kaveri river in the Dharmapuri district. It is also referred to as Niagra falls of India, so you can imagine how beautiful the place can be. Just 180 km away from Bangalore you can experience coracle ride and amazing view of hills and river.
The road is very smooth and enjoyable as the scenic beauty is mesmerizing.
The coracle ride is of the major attraction in this Place. it is advisable to arrive early, crowd starts to flow-in from about 9:45 am. If you beat the crowd, you will be assured of a great experience. As soon as you arrive, take the coracle ride. Generally, the government coracle package Rs 750 per ride and can accommodate 3 to 4 people and travel time is 45 minutes which covers only Tamilnadu waterfalls. If you want to see Karnataka waterfalls you can pay some extra amount to coracle rider and which you would need if you want to spend time in the sandy area of the river and also more time in parts of the waterfalls which are accessible only by coracle.
The best time to visit this place is December/January. The falls will be at their majestic best during / soon after monsoon; The weather with a little drizzle added an advantage to the awesomeness
We get fish at cheaper price. You can buy 1 Kg fish in 150 Rs, there are lot of cooking vendors where they provide cooking services. You can buy fish and give it to them, they will cook very yummy and delicious, fish gravy and fish fry. Along with that they will give you rice, Rasam. Rs 400 they will charge for that.
Hotels are not too good to eat food there, but manageable. Breakfast is somewhat good. 1 day trip is enough, but plan to reach there by 9AM. If it is too sunny you cannot enjoy in Boat if you have kids as there is no roof. They are selling cool drinks / snacks / fried fish in the way of boat riding.

ONE SUCH PLACE TO VISIT IN INDIA IS THE HOGENAKKAL FALLS IN TAMIL NADU NEAR BANGALORE. HOGENAKKAL FALLS HAS CROCODILE PARKS, BOATING AND MANY MORE EXCITING THINGS TO DO.
IF YOU LIVE NEARBY THEN IT WILL BE A DAY TRIP AND YOU CAN EASILY RETURN BY NIGHT. THERE IS SOMETHING THAT I MISSED. IF YOU LIKE TO BATH NEAR HOGENAKKAL FALLS THEN GET YOUR SPARE COLTHES, TOWEL AND A BAG TO CARRY THE WET CLOTHES.
GET YOUR ASS OFF TO HAVE AN ENJOYMENT LIKE NEVER BEFORE. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING SAFETY FIRST AT HOGENAKKAL FALLS SINCE YOU MAY GET INTO WATER THAT IS 60 FEET DEEP AND IN THE CROCODILE PARK DON'T SHOW YOUR FOOLISHNESS.
HOGENAKKAL FALLS IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE NIGERIA FALLS OF INDIA. HOGENAKKAL FALLS IS A VERY COOL PLACE TO VISIT. YOU CAN VISIT HOGENAKKAL FALLS WITH YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY, IT DOES NOT MATTER BECAUSE ULTIMATELY YOU WILL ENJOY IN BOTH CONDITIONS.
